 - Adjusted the simulation for tyre heat generation and wear ratio. This adjustment makes it easier to see the remaining tread;
 - Altered the simulation of the differential gear (with a Fully Customisable LSD). As a result, it's now more effective when decelerating and provides a much smoother driving performance;
 - Adjusted the Performance Points (PP) of some cars;
 - Changed the conditions for mechanical damage occurring from a collision or contact if 'Mechanical Damage' is set to ‘Light’ or Heavy’ in the race settings.

2. Controllers
 - Adjusted the performance of the wireless controller.

3. Sound
 - Adjusted the sound effects so that it is easier to hear the difference in sound between Stage 1 to 3 of the ‘Weight Reduction' modification.

4. Legend Cars
 - Legend Cars (Hagerty Collection) prices have been revised based on real-life valuations from Gran Turismo partner, Hagerty.

Hagerty provides valuations and vehicle insurance for classic cars and has sponsored some historic car events in recent years.

New prices will be applied the next time a vehicle goes on sale. The next price revision is scheduled for November 2022.

5. Race Screen
 - Fixed an issue wherein the ‘Weather Radar’ on the ‘Multi-Function Display’ would not function properly in event races with weather and time set.

6. Others
 - Various other issues have been addressed.

Tire wear is insane now. Makes me wonder why they changed it so drastically. Some cars also handle quite differently now. Haven't tried the new layouts yet. Hurry up weekend!

I’m not a fan of the rallycross track; it’s just too tight for my liking.

Hopefully the new tire wear model make races more strategic. Tired of no-stop races on Hards.

I really love the new rallycross layout. Super tricky to navigate with this tight lines but it feels incredible when you nail it. Especially the changes from gravel to asphalt are awesome. Can't get enough of it! Now i want more of those. :messenger_beaming:

The framerate dropped insanely a few times there. :messenger_grimmacing_

Still surprised by the increased tirewear. And the changes for collisions and the inherent damage also caught me by suprise today. I hope both have a lot of impact for online races.

Otherwise i'm not the biggest fan of the Porsche Cayman GT4 '16 but i enjoyed the Pontiac GTO 'The Judge' '69 more than i would have thought. The McLaren MP4/4 '88 is cool.

I also bought a lot of the VGT cars today i was missing. Sad that those fancy helmets are just available for the specific cars. Would be cool to have them for free use.

All I want is the ability to sell cars
I’ve got a few duplicates, so that would be handy, but I’d say 95% of my cars I’d rather keep, so not sure how much I’d benefit from it. And no doubt we wouldn’t be able to sell gifts, which would likely make it a useless feature. But you never know.

A server maintenance post on the official game website has revealed that a new update for Gran Turismo 7 is coming on Thursday September 1.

It comes only a week on from the most recent game update, v1.20, which brought the first mixed-surface course in Gran Turismo’s PlayStation 4 era, as well as the Ayrton Senna-driven McLaren MP4/4.

The timing, along with the language of the post, suggests that this is an update intended to correct some of the game’s known issues rather than bringing along more new content. That means it’s unlikely to be a particularly large update — in the region of 250MB.

Although the post’s phrasing varies from region to region, all include the words “general bug fixes”, which makes it pretty clear that the “game update maintenance” won’t change anything beyond items listed in the known issues post.

There’s a variety of things currently shown there, with the most recent being related to the 1.20 update. One relates to the rate of tire wear in a specific Mission — The Sun Also Rises, Bathurst Gr.3 Battle — which makes it difficult to complete without serious tire conservation, while the other affects the new Rallycross course in certain circumstances.

Players will also be aware of a few longer-term issues, primarily centered on multiplayer in lobby and two-player split-screen modes. A graphical glitch with upgraded exhaust parts is another on the list.

We won’t know precisely what’s in the update or what issues have been addressed until it arrives. It will become available during the server maintenance, which will start at the usual 0600 UTC on September 1.

From that point you won’t be able to play most of GT7 until you have applied the update and the maintenance ends approximately two hours later.

I imagine that’ll be a dud whenever it actually comes out.

They have a marketing deal to with Hagerty to introduce real world pricing and inflation to the price of cars that probably impact selling cars. Surely you won’t be able to sell gift cars. They also sell in game credits for money.

Polyphony Digital Shows Gran Turismo 7 Circuit Scanning and Creation Methods at CEDEC 2022

Along with Kazunori Yamauchi opening the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC) 2022 with a keynote speech, Polyphony Digital has taken part in a session presenting some of its circuit modeling methods. The session, titled “Case Study of Surveying Technology and Exterior Design in Gran Turismo 7 Course Production” and presented by Yuhei Kitada and Taro Ozaki of PD’s landscape team, ran for about an hour and looked at both surveying real circuits and the environment design of fictional ones. Unfortunately the live stream during which the presentation occurred has subsequently been removed, and CEDEC has yet to publish a short-form video of the session. However our colleagues at 4gamer.net were able to catch the original along with screenshots of the event.

The presentation consisted of two sections, starting with the techniques and data used to survey the real circuits for digital recreation. A crew of artists, photographers, and videographers will visit the site for the survey process, which consists of a number of different methods. Laser-scanning is arguably the most important from a structural point of view. The crew uses a vehicle-mounted laser scan to accurately survey the road surface, run-off areas, track furniture, and buildings nearby. A vehicle is also used to capture video of the circuit. Shooting at 30 frames per second, the crew will dawdle around the track at just 10mph to gather information for photogrammetry; that results in a lot of data, with one pass of Spa-Francorchamps reportedly taking up 8TB.

This is actually a slightly trickier process than you might realize, as bright and highly reflective areas — like the sky or buildings — and any moving objects affect the capture process. These have to be masked from the resulting image output. In addition there’s also a UAV survey, with a large drone photographing the circuit but primarily in the paddock and off-track landscape. Finally there’s also direct stills photography, both from crew members on the ground and in a helicopter. Combined with GPS data, that all gives PD enough information to create a 3D environment mesh and apply image data to relevant surfaces, including tire marks, oil stains, and even graffiti. The results are sufficiently accurate to earn FIA certification.

Naturally none of this information is available for fictional circuits, and Polyphony’s approach is to make the design realistic but to allow players to experience something different from real-world circuits. One example given of this is tunnels.

Tunnels rarely appear on a real-world track for pretty obvious safety reasons — it’ll likely take a while to think of any track with a tunnel other than the open-cut Larvotto tunnel at Monaco. However “original” circuits aren’t so limited, and the change in light and sound gives a unique experience only possible in a fictional setting. However in order to maintain an equivalent level of reality to a real circuit, the team must use similar processes for the real world circuits, particularly when it comes to the road surface and environment. Even here, the landscape team must visit the location where the circuit is intended to be, scanning the terrain and plants to create a realistic environment. The example presented in the session was Kyoto Driving Park, which is set in a basin in the northern mountains around Kyoto; the team visited Kitayama and photographed the famous cedar trees for use in the virtual track. In order to break up the landscape, the team decided to put in some more buildings but, in order to retain realism, opted to do so according to local planning regulations. That resulted in the “museum of contemporary arts and crafts” that you’ll find at Kyoto Miyabi and the combined track — which wasn’t present in GT Sport. This building was chosen and designed to fit into the local regulations, with its own back-story in which it contributes to culture — by providing a place to display artworks not available nearby — and attracts tourism. High Speed Ring’s centerpiece cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge was also highlighted as a structure reworked from its previous appearances.

EDIT: I might have fixed it. I turned off my router and then back on and was able to join the first lobby i selected. Cross my fingers this doesn't happen more.
EDIT 2: Problem reappeared after only joining one room. I think I can't use the new router with this game. Just doesn't want to connect with others :(

Is anyone else have issues joining online lobbies?

Keep getting the time out message and code "[CE-700181]".

I can't join lobbies anymore and seems no one joins mine either.

It might have to do with a new router I bought a few days ago, but I looked online for solutions, but it seems nothing is working.

I can do everything else with the wifi, except connect with others in GT7. Don't have other games to test it.

Theses are the only things within your control you can try and fix:
But remember online lobbies are hosted by the player side, not on GT7 servers, so if the player hosting has a bad connection there is nothing you can do other than join a different lobby

Gran Turismo Sophy Development Diary #3: Sophy’s Future

The final video in Sony AI’s series about the development of Gran Turismo Sophy is now available, delving into what lies ahead for the intangible racing driver.

In the last video, we left Sophy in its state of being supremely fast on its own but ultimately second-best to the fastest Gran Turismo players in the world. The AI agent had come up against Ryota Kokubun, Takuma Miyazono, Shotaro Ryu, and Tomoaki Yamanaka, and lost. However it wasn’t just that the AI had lost, but the manner in which it lost that caused concern. The Sony AI team had to dig into some of the unexpected behaviors that saw Sophy spinning out all by itself, yielding corners, and failing to catch up despite prodigious speed.

Having identified some of the causes — such as a data glitch as Sophy switched between its solo pace and in-pack scrapping modes, resulting in the spin — the Sony AI team set about training for a second event against the humans in October 2021. Of course as we already know, Sophy quite handily defeated the humans in the re-match, taking 1-2 finishes in every race.

It also turned out that two of the three issues seen in the previous races at Circuit de la Sarthe cropped up again. This time though, the AI caught up after spinning off — caused by a car-to-car contact rather than a glitch — and when going wheel-to-wheel with Yamanaka in the Porsche Curves, Sophy’s choice was to stay on the power rather than yielding as before.

Having beaten some of the best in the world, Sony AI is now looking at how to implement Sophy into Gran Turismo 7, and it’s something we could see by the end of 2022. A superhuman variant of the AI would be too much for most players, and not much fun as a result, but its pace could be scaled down as a rival — and there’s other applications for an AI.

Interestingly, the final part of the video deals with how Sophy learned “unwritten rules” of sportsmanship, and how this could have wider applications in AI in the future. After all, as pointed out in the clip, humans operate on a lot of unspoken and unwritten conventions, and an AI that can learn racing etiquette is one that can also learn the foibles of human society.

You can view the final, ten-minute video in the series below:

I hope this makes it into the game in a reliable way. PD has a habit of testing stuff through missions or whatnot, before deploying it fully. In an ideal world the games' ai would be subbed by this Sophy one.

Anyway, still loving this game. Feeling polished at the moment, will only get better.

On another topic, after watching those PSVR2 videos, and seeing how the visuals are basically the same in RE8, GT7 could be something amazing if it's fully supported. sheesh

So, menu 42...what car did you do this one?

I'm having a hard time with this menu. It's the only one left for me to do.

Quoting myself from the last page.

For the Neo-Classical i used the AMG Mercedes CLK-LM '98. I love that car. However any Gr. 2 car should be good. It's just not an easy set of races and you should keep you pace quite consistent.

For the hypercar races i used the new Porsche 918 Spyder. If you struggle here you can tune up the car quite aggressively and make a joke out of these races. The hardest part is to get the handling down for those cars. I also did it with other cars but i liked the Spyder the most.

Did a 11 day road trip with the missis through the Netherlands as our yearly vacation and took a detour to the Nordschleife.

First we got on to the grandstand of the GP track.

52374524488_dc03b0503c_z.jpg

Afterwards we explored the outskirts of the track and watched while many mad people where racing around the track. Obviously we couldn't withstand the urge to drive on it and so we did two laps in our own car.

And to top it off we booked the circuit taxi. "The Beast", was slapped around the track by the maniac Andreas Gülden. Super funny guy and a very skillful driver. I've never experienced such a powerful car, pushed to it's limits. Hard to describe this. The girl was screeching louder than the tires. I just laughed constantly throughout the first 3 kilometers. If you ever get the chance to do this than i would highly recommend it!

52373354997_62451e4b7c_z.jpg

What i'm actually here for is to describe the differences between being a passenger / driver in real life and my personal experiences of driving the Nordschleife in GT7.

The difference in height feels so much different in reality. 290m for the regular layout and 560m with the addition of the GP part are a lot. The minimap shows it quite well but to drive there, up and down, felt like more. I mainly use the rear view in the game so i guess it has something to do with the camera.

The distance between corners felt shorter. Maybe this also relates to the camera and a different field of view.

The track is very uneven. Once i felt all the small rumbles and shake ups everywhere i got a lot of respect for the act of racing. This doesn't translate well into the game i think. Could be better with a force feedback wheel but i haven't tried one yet.

Some of the curbs are gigantic. Intimidating to say the least.

The design of the surroundings of the track are very good but not a 1 to 1 reproduction.

It feels both weird and obvious to compare real and digital after driving there. Surely nothing will translate the feel of being there but i appreciate GT7 much more now.

Just my two cents. Vroom vroom...!

Porsche Vision GT Spyder Coming to Gran Turismo 7 on September 29

Porsche has revealed a new version of its Vision Gran Turismo, and let slip that it will be coming to Gran Turismo 7 in a game update on September 29. The announcement seems to have come a little ahead of schedule, appearing only in the “community” section of the official Porsche YouTube channel and not any other social channels or the company’s official press resources.

That means that, at the moment, there’s not a great deal of information to go on regarding the Vision Gran Turismo Spyder, although we can take a few reasonable guesses.

Porsche states that the car is “the open-top variant of the Porsche concept vehicle”, which we can clearly see in the handful of images provided. Rather than the closed-cockpit two-seat original, the Spyder is a speedster-form monoposto, with the driver sitting on the left side of the car and the right closed off in the manner of a 1950s racer.

The styling is otherwise unchanged, with the car also still bearing the #72 that likely refers to the founding year of Studio F.A. Porsche, a design arm created by then-new chairman Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche for projects beyond just the automotive realm.

It’s likely the underpinnings will remain the same too, with the Spyder toting the same 1,100hp, all-wheel drive, electric propulsion as the original vehicle. However we will have to wait for more detail when the car is officially revealed.

Update: Porsche has subsequently Tweeted about the car, providing a few more images:

This peek at the new car also revealed that, as expected, the next game update will, as expected, come on September 29.

If Polyphony Digital adheres to the update format thus far, it will likely include three new vehicles, of which the Vision GT Spyder will be one — with a teaser over the coming weekend of the remaining update contents.

Volkswagen ID.R Coming to Gran Turismo 7 on September 29

Volkswagen’s record-breaking ID.R time attack car is one of the cars that’s coming to Gran Turismo 7 in this month’s update, scheduled for Thursday September 29.

The car’s rather distinctive profile appears as one of the three cars in the now-traditional “silhouette” teaser image posted by Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi on Twitter earlier today. Yamauchi’s Tweet confirms that the update will come during the week commencing September 26, however earlier information from Porsche — which also has a car arriving in the update — and confirmed by the Gran Turismo Twitter account states that September 29 will be the day of the update.

The ID.R is unmistakable in the top-left, with styling details like the car’s roof-mounted door as something of a giveaway. Given the lower wing profile it looks to be the blue version of the car, as used for the Goodwood Hillclimb and Nurburgring record runs, rather than in gray Pikes Peak configuration.

We also already know the middle car, thanks to Porsche. That will be a “Spyder” version of the Porsche Vision GT, although rather than being a convertible it’s a roofless model with a 1950’s style monoposto cockpit. The final car is a little harder to pin down to the same precision. For the most part the details line up with the S14-generation Nissan Silvia, in pre-facelift — or “Zenki” — form, but the low standard rear spoiler rules out the “Aero” models previously seen in Gran Turismo 4, 5, and 6. It could be a regular Q’s or K’s model, and the body also matches the European market 200SX — particularly the RHD UK model.

Of course the three-car silhouette only reveals the vehicles coming to Gran Turismo 7 in this update. We will have to wait until the official update trailer is released — either just before or just after the update itself — to find out what else is coming to the game.

Fans will naturally be hoping for more tracks to race on, and more races in the GT Cafe, and there is still the car selling feature yet to arrive from the roadmap published back in March. The update will likely address some of the game’s known issues, as well as tweaking other details. There’ll be a short maintenance period ahead of the update, at around 0600 UTC on September 29, and players will not be able to access the game at all during this time and until they’ve installed the update. You’ll need to save well ahead of this time, and as Performance Point values often change in updates it’s advisable to complete any championships you have underway beforehand too.
