The days of the Sterling are over.

Subscribers have been dropping steadily for over a year already.

No politics. But in answer to all the undercover commies whining about Tories, labour were and are a danger to themselves, Corbyn the IRA sympathiser!, that war criminal should be in the Hague Blair, Brown!. Starmer and all the north London champagne socialist anti semetics. Thank God we won't see the likes of any of them in #10 again. And stop blaming Brexit, it was all the stupid lockdowns and furlough schemes that have screwed the country.

No politics, only blaming a government that hasn't been in power for 12 years and lockdowns and furloughs (NPC talking points, like "undercover commies" btw)) that more countries than UK went through.

Also "anti semetics" bonus points.

I don't like the price increase, but the truth is sony upped the price at the right time.

Xbox not raising the price and saying they won't isn't really having any significant positive impact, ps5s are still selling out with expensive bundles in the uk whilst standalone xbox series x are always in stock.

Ms can obviously eat the cost but is it really worth it? If we go by the uk market nope.

I recall reading that the UK depended on natural gas for a larger percentage of it's total electricity than even Germany. Cutting off Russia just means everyone's fighting over the same spot LNG cargos.

UK imports 50% of its gas but its mostly from Norway. UK problem is it does not have much gas storage, which means it buys as it consumes and as prices in gas fluctuates due to the international market the UK is harder hit with its pay-as-you-go for gas practice.

In 2007, when the pound was worth over $2, was the US paying twice as much as the Brits?

No.

The PS3 launched at £425 compared to $600 and 60,000 yen (£300 and £250).

They should all suck it up. The big 3s moves now will influence my purchasing decisions for years to come.

Brits getting hampered by not investing in Green Energy and being reliant on Russia. Also, Brexit. Nothing more to say that US $ is also the world's reserve currency. The days of the Sterling are over.
This is kinda untrue. Energy prices are going up because the green energy isn’t delivering as expected and gas/oil/coal is an international commodity market so it is affected by externals. I also read somewhere that the UK is about to aprove some sort of tax levy which won’t help the economy in the medium long term (so there is some speculation going on as well).

The UK is doing the opposite of a levy, it's cutting taxes and the markets don't like that either. If you meant national insurance raises, that's been scrapped alongside the tax cuts.

All I got was a lousy 50p ph wage increase.

What's the reason for the £ dropping so much in value?
Loss of confidence in the government as the markets think their economic plan is utterly bonkers.

Shan't going into any more detail due to the rules here, but it's not good. Not good at all.

Agreed and Net Zero. The Yen dropped and the Euro is now below parity against the Dollar that's hardly brexit.
Some of us remember even MS increasing the cost of the 360 in the UK in 2009 due to the exchange rate, some will no doubt say that was Brexit too.

People blaming brexit and failure to transition to green energy...

No Way Abandon Thread GIF

How does this happen when you're already on the Internet and can find the necessary relevant information prior to (or instead of - that would be preferable in this situation in all honesty) posting? We really are fucked aren't we?

looks like it went back up but overall still declining.

i don't know how it all works but i guess a lot of people made money while it was down?

Only 3% of the UK's gas reservers come from Russia, so the idea that the current war has caused the prices to go up is complete BS

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
So the OP believes at this new rate the UK has to pay the equivalent of $626 to match (depending on state)$540?
😐

Don't have to be a socialist to think that increasing debt whilst cutting tax on people earning 150k or more isn't sensible.

You are really redefining socialists at that point.

But think the detour into politics has maybe gone too far.

And it continues with your post!

And yet the UK seems to be the only country nosediving into oblivion because of it

Jesus Christ what nonsense is this?

Germany is on the brink of complete collapse if Putin turns off their gas - they are 100% fucked. Greece is wholesale about to default on huge debts (again) Italy and Spain aren’t far behind. Ireland has one of the highest debts per person IN THE WORLD. The whole EU block is unstable.

Yet, you focus solely on the U.K.?

Haha only after you and the rest have had your infringement with the no politics rule, by being political and now you think you also get to decide when that ends.

God give me strength. Looks like it’s a free for all in here lads.
I was 'political' about talking about the reasons that I thought the currency had weaken? I didn't even pass judgement on the budget.

You might have implied it from one of my comments, I would like to know which one?

PS I didn't even compare the UK to the EU.

Hardware, I see it, but digital games they will charge what people can pay. Can't get blood from a stone. So if things get much worse, game prices in £ could even fall, which is great news for people in the UK who have overseas income.

The gas is already off mate and EU is sorted for the winter with gas storage that the UK got rid off.

Wake up and smell the coffee you're being taken for shmucks over there in Britannia. Your own politicians and their cronies are shorting the pound while they're cutting down the tax for the rich and boosting the party donor energy companies with tax payers money.

The most hilarious part is that the UK taxpayers money will go to the EU which imposed windfall tax to the same energy companies :messenger_tears_of_joy:

To be fair I’m amazed at how many people in the UK are still able to afford gaming as a hobby in the current climate, especially with bills being so high. Sony upping those pieces even more would mean they probably price themselves out of the market.
Subscription services honestly couldn't have come at a better time tbh. That and a massive backlog is going to probably keep me from buying new games for a very long time.
I would argue that it's more social things such as eating out and going to the pub that will be/has been affected so far. I can always argue that buying a new game means I won't be going out and spending money on other things

It's not enough. Gas in storage is hardly above the 5-year average for the time of year and ordinarily you'd still have Russian supply. There will be shortages this winter, especially if it's a hard one.

Also Europe is not using storage that the UK "got rid of". The UK government refused to subside repairs to the Rough storage facility owned by Centrica in 2017, an incredibly short-sighted decision as it amounted to half of UK storage capacity. This facility closed and is no longer in use.

Wouldn’t surprise me if we see price hikes from MS and Nintendo as well at the rate this is going. Sure, Nintendo probably has some leeway due to not decreasing the cost before but Series X and S selling at their original price is a big cost and Sony has already taken the biggest PR-hit by being the first to raise prices.

My thinking as well, all this means are microsoft and nintendo are taking an even bigger loss come the holiday season. Thats why they didn’t flat out commit to not raising prices in the near future.

A lot of people are gonna look dumb for ragging on sony for it soon. Nintendo will probably write this off as a price cut their margins are gonna get hit hard though

Kinda had to do payouts in some form, otherwise you just would have had massive unemployment.

Obviously there was going to be some fraud and wastage unfortunately. Definitely need to make punishment on Fraud tougher but ehh.

The UK goverment is doing one of those two things; aka the interest but not the other.
Or you could of not shut down society, which in hindsight seems a terrible idea.
Places who totally shutdown did no better than places that didn’t.

I don't know why phil came out and just outright said oh were not planning on raising prices. Even though his words did leave room for a possible price increase, any backlash they get if they do up the price is gonna be far worse then sony.

How are UK services like Utilities and insurance doing?
well my gas/electricity is now capped to £2,500/year apparently (instead of the predicted £3,500 and then upwards of £5-7,000 by spring). the prices are still going up 1st october but it's meant to be frozen for 2 years now so yey? edit: and oh the goverment gave everyone £400 off their bills this year. next year we'll not get that so effectively it's still a price rise next year

rent is frozen too.

internet is going up. i currently pay £40/month but i've been told it'll go up to £53/month and that's not including the annual price hike due to inflation so by spring 2023 it'll likely be about £60/month.

my car insurance was £30/month and my old provider was wanting to renew the same fucking insurance policy for £50/month. i don't know where they pulled an extra £20/month from. immediately cancelled it and got a new quote which works out at £31/month.
