PS1 games on the new PS+ to get Trophy support

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Neato.

The downside is that if they're requiring the devs to go back and add it, that list of PS1 games is going to be incredibly short for the lifespan of this program.

Retroarch has achievements for classic games. This isn’t a big deal lol

No one thought they were putting any effort into the PS1 classics on the new service. What does an aftermarket mod have to do with an official release? Ocarina of Time is running in Unreal too but it would be a big deal if Nintendo released it. Fans have done tons of incredible things with old games but that doesn't translate them to being released in any official capacity. You can't be this dense, stop trying to be a wet blanket for other people.

Wow very nice. Looks like they are putting some serious effort into this.

The amount of games they are removing to replace, trophy support, adding PS1, PSP, PS2, and Vita games for download (PS3 streaming) is impressive.

Add in PS5 games and thus service looks ready to take off. I'm impressed.

Hopefully, this isn’t like their PS2 on PS4 initiative.

I believe trophy support is the cause for the lackluster list of PS2 games.

Licensing is the cause for that and Sony didn't want to deal with any negotiations to get things beyond their first party stuff on there as it's running on a emulator.

There won't be Vita games, for the same reason the Vita TV flopped. Any game that used the back screen or the touch screen on Vita was made incompatible with TV, despite the Dual Shock 4 and Dual Sense having a touch pad.

Think they made it alot more simple to add them, there was a new patent for it either last year or the one before.

Id rather have no trophies if I can have more PS1/PS2 games
With any luck this will simply be optional. Most devs (that are still around and have games that don't have crazy licensing issues) that would want to put in this kind of work would probably rather simply re-release that game on modern platforms anyway.

Something like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance comes to mind - where they went in and added widescreen and trophy support and slapped a $30 price tag on the game.

Complete waste of time. I much rather if they focused on providing some good CRT filters so that games wont look butt-ugly on modern screens.

Classic Games Catalog

PlayStation Plus Premium**/Deluxe Plan

PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe members will have a selection of popular classic games to play, with some titles that will show improved frame rates and higher-quality resolution compared to their original launch versions. For select original PlayStation and PSP classic games, members will also enjoy a new user interface with menus that allow you to save your game at any time, or even rewind the game if you want a do-over.

Retroarch supports it via Retro Achievements, but it's 100% community-driven and not all games are supported. Most translated games, for example, aren't supported even if English releases are. It's also just a fraction of any given library and some systems like PS2 are completely MIA.

So whether this is big news or not, at the very least it's very welcomed and something I was hoping they would do. Now let's just hear about some online multiplayer support for the games with multiplayer options and we're golden 👍

NGL as cool as retro CRT filters are compared to trophy support and online multiplayer, that is the lowest priority for me personally. I definitely think they should have some CRT filter options, though. We'll see.

I know it is somewhat cumbersome but couldn't they just add cloud compatibility for mobile devices to emulate the back screen? At least some day?

F’n awesome. This was one of my hopes when they announced the service, so hallelujah. Now wondering if PSP and PS2 games get trophy support too, and what about those PS3 games that don’t have trophies? Looking at you Folklore, I’d love to get a platinum for that game.

This is great!

It’s something I hoped for and hated about original Xbox titles through backwards compatibility, no achievements.

I'm impressed they're putting the work on this... Also, I wonder if Sony (I imagine Mixes is the one working that whole thing) is willing to do the work for third party publishers too.
