Nixxes Software joins Playstation Studios

I know Evo Studios screwed some things up when making DriveClub, but Sony REALLY screwed up letting them go. DriveClub was supposed to be their Forza Horizon "type" series. And still till this day I believe DC would have went toe-to-toe with the Forza Horizon games. They just needed another shot. Everything was there in DC, once they fixed the bugs and did a few updates.

To me......it's Sony's BIGGEST mistake during the PS4 era. And it ain't even close.

Ehh not really - all games by Evo studios have been average both in critical and sales reception. Most other publishers wouldn't give them half the chances they got at Sony.

If Gran Turismo doesn't take billion years to come out this generation then Sony doesn't need ps5 version of drive club this time.

Double dippers.

Publishers do it with Switch games ALL the time!
Also you ignored the fact that they did not “just” put PS4 logo on a lot of those trailers last year even when they knew they were coming to PS4.
This is not at all true, and trying to pass off conjecture as fact doesn't change the fact that it's just conjecture.

Miles Morales was launching on PS4 and PS5 simultaneously. In the trailers leading up to the launch of that game, the PS4 was mentioned in the trailers. It was mentioned in small font, but it was mentioned.

HFW will launch on PS4 and PS5 either simultaneously, or very close together. PS4 is mentioned in the trailer.

Why would you assume that games like Demon Souls, or whatever else you presume to be making its way to PS4, were already known to be coming to the platform? Demon Souls is now more than half a year past its launch. The marketing run is already done for that game, and no PS4 version in sight. If a PS4 version does come, it's certainly not because Sony knew all along that this would be the case. It seems more clearly to be an after-the-fact affair.

We haven't seen anything of GoW, other than a teaser, and we don't have anything for GT7 other than the PS5 sizzle reel from last year. If these games are expected to appear on the PS4, they will be mentioned in the trailers. So I don't see any reason to assume Sony wouldn't mention the PC as well. MS and 3rd parties have done this for years now. Sony isn't going to be some outlier to what is clearly common sense business practice. They're not going to ninja release a game on a platform, if they can declare it properly during the main marketing campaign. It costs nothing to put the words PC in there. Gamers on forums like to think that the rest of the userbase thinks like them, but I guarantee that most gamers don't give a shit if PS games land on PC or not. Sony isn't worried about gamers getting hurt feelings about PC ports. They only care about affects their bottom line, revenue/profits.

Have you been living under a rock? All those games are going to be on PS4…with no mention of that at their initial trailers…

PS: Sony doesn’t need you shilling for their “fuck ups.”

I have no idea what you're talking about. The initial trailers were at the PS5 reveal a year ago. Since then, ensuing trailers of cross-gen games have all mentioned the PS4 in their trailers. If you're whole argument hinges on the one show where the only focus was the PS5, then you're clutching at straws.

As for "all those games are going to be on PS4" that is not official by any means. And if they don't release within the launch window of the PS5 version, then your assumption that this is some clever obfuscation by Sony is completely baseless. Thus far, cross-gen first party games have been mentioned during the main marketing campaign, which is when the trailers for the PS5 versions have been released. I wouldn't call a PS4 version of Demon Souls, released a year or more after the PS5 version, to have been something planned long-term, and hidden from the public.

I have no idea what you're actually getting at. You just seem to be ignoring what I've shown, which is that if a game is cross-gen, it's been telegraphed by Sony. Maybe point to a first-party game that's officially cross-gen, that Sony failed to mention the PS4 version in the trailer. GoW hasn't had a trailer, and GT7's trailer was only shown at the PS5 show a year ago. Those are the only other first party games that I've seen were mentioned to be cross-gen, and I'm not even sure if that was via official channels. But if they are, I expect we will see the PS4 mentioned in the proper reveal trailers. Just like MM and HFW.

I think you are grasping at straws to defend Sony. Your argument boils down to “as long as Sony shows a PS4/PC logo in a trailer the day before launch, they didn’t do anything wrong”. Like I’m fucking arguing with you about anything like that. Don’t respond back to me if your argument is that Sony puts a PS5 logo on a trailer on a PS5 event (big whoop). You also fully gloss over how Sony’s shit marketing has thrown people off for a year so much so that they are now confirming games coming to the PS4 just to get the diehards to buy PS5s.

The most boring and snooz fest Sony announcement ever. Not surprising anymore from Hermen Hulst tho.

Apart from providing active game-development support, expect them to assist ICE in improving technologies across PlayStation Studios.

You think they are going to be assisting the best support studio in the world?

Almost certainly they are going to be PC port studio just so Sony doesnt need to pay for it, after their first party releases something they can immediately send it to Nixxes for porting.

No, they will be supporting during active development, which is why they need a game director. Nixes will join ICE, VASG and others in the network of support studios. It's not just about ports after the fact, that would've been a ridiculous acquisition.

Hopefully, I just don't see why Sony did this, do you?
The whole thread is speculating on it, chose one.

I’m hoping it’s a port studio, allowing 1st party to concentrate on PS5 without being burdened with multiple sku considerations.

But not to dismiss their technical prowess which can be put to a new ip at some point too.

But isn't this going against what the average PS owner wants? This whole exclusive mentality that some have, this could create uproar if we start seeing every game going to PC.

Playstation fans want more Playstation, and they are getting that. The PC is an open platform, a market that is now used to console games, and so it makes perfect sense for the PS brand to expand.

These companies learn from each other, Sony has seen Xbox brand expanding successfully to PC and so there's little reason to not do the same. More important than Playstation hardware, it's the playstation brand that matters most.

Until they start doing day and date for their biggest franchises, not too much of an issue. Opinions on that matter vary a lot. But they're going to keep doing it, no question about it.

This is starting to whiff of panic buying if I'm honest. Bluepoint would be a good strategic move but this 🤔 I'm not sure how this has come about.

Doesn't seem like panic buying to me since it fits into their PC ports strategy. Plus this developer is pretty good with technology so they can be a good support studio.

I honestly don't believe that Sony is doing this because Microsoft is going to buy several publishers. That's one of the rumors that I've seen floating around.

It could mean that the main devs of the game don't have to split between PC and the PS5. It could mean better optimization for the PS5 version in the end that's what console owners want.

Against PS owners wants?
Why do PS owners NOT want PC ports?

How does/do PC versions of PS games affect PS owners?

It probably wont be every game but im sure a number of games are gonna be hitting PC.

Dont PS owner want Sony to be making as much money as possible considering how tribal they are with all this, if they sell on PC as well they make an extra buck and if its some console warring stuff Xbox still wont get those console exclusives.

I'm all for it to be honest, PS have great games and PC is a great fit, but you know what the fanboy is like. Very little common sense, just have a look at most comparison threads 🙄

Hope this means they're prepping GT7, Ghost of Tsushima, and MLB: The Show. Because that my friends is the will of the gaming gods.

I assumed they are workers from the studio, maybe the ones who reached X years of seniority.
No, they will be supporting during active development, which is why they need a game director. Nixes will join ICE, VASG and others in the network of support studios. It's not just about ports after the fact, that would've been a ridiculous acquisition.
Ports also need director, producer or designers. In some projects they did work in the engine and tools side, so they may help there even if their main work -at least it's what they said- will be to port games.

I assume they will have two main tasks: one to have a team who ports old games to PC, or maybe even from PSVR1 to PSVR2 if isn't full BC. The other would be to work on tweaking the engines and tools of the other PS Studios (who would be focused on making games for PS5 only) to make future/potential PC ports.

To port a console game that was originally made to target only a console requires a lot of work, specially if it uses a custom engine and wasn't developed with multiplatform on mind (other OS, APIs an libraries, different resolutions, different aspect ratio displays, different controller support -like keyboard and mouse- different quality for models/textures/LOD/etc, different trophies and interrumptions etc). Part of this work is way less painful if the engines and tools are ready for it and if the game is designer originally with it on mind.

If Sony plans to release let's say 4 PC ports of old games per year and let's say every year they start a console game or two that in the future may end be ported to PC, it's a lot of porting work. PS Studios staff pretty likely will prefer to work on original games instead of in porting, so it's better to keep them focused their talent on making PS5 games and leave PC stuff to other teams, to outsource this work. But there are many AAA games -which they became bigger and more complex every generation- and outsourcing teams are often busy working in other projects. So it's smart to buy one or two porting teams to ensure they are always ready for them. Same goes with art outsourcing support studios, Sony already had their teams but like any other AAA company outsourced a lot of work to external studios. So it's good for them to buy one or two of them (Valkyrie) to make sure are always ready for them and not busy working for someone else.

Hermen said PS Studios had over 25 games under development, so make sure that there is more than enough work to keep always busy Nixxes or Valkyrie, even one or two teams more.

Making sure the main PS Studios don't have to worry about ports make their employees happier and allows to develop their console games faster because don't have to spend time on PC stuff, so increases their console games output. And since PC ports are handled by dedicated teams who are only working on this and are very experienced on doing this, it also increases the PC ports output. A bigger output of console games and PC ports means more players happy and more revenue and profit, which later can be reinvested on hiring or acquiring people to make even more games.

But he is right, Playstation is losing the personality and becoming just a copy paste of Xbox.
Yes...the Dual Sense...VR2...betting on single player story-driven experiences (like for the past 15 years) and live service games...acquiring studios based on talent and not IP value...their subscription services being aimed at different target audiences...

COPY PASTE for sure

The avengers game. Hopefully they get to work with better source material to port. Looking forward to seeing a hunter miniature there on the next pic.

Yep I'd say those are staff .. I recognise a game Dev's posture/or lack of when I see one :)
