YAAAHHHRRRRR!!! pass the Deck mate! YAAAHHHRRR!!!
if you imagine them singing about the Steam Deck this song gets a brand new meaning of the "fiddler" that won't let anyone else play with the Steam Deck lol and will kill you if you try to xD
Battery life...
Price comparison...
Internal vs SD card load times for Control...
1 hour vid of fiddling with the Deck.
I would imagine the test unit is the high end one. Linus had a case. Some screens from the LTT video...
I'm getting the 512GB and planning on running Windows 10(Steam, GoG, Game Pass) and putting emu on the microSD. It's weird that the MicroSD card is keeping up with the internal SSD in this test, but I'm guessing that's the base eMMC model being compared. I think that's roughly PS4/Xbox One load times. The "fastest storage" 512GB model should be doing much better than that, you'd think anyway.
Well it could theoretically pull as much as 45W, as that's what the charger is rated for, and that's what the tests showed it topping out at. However, as long as your powerbank can push around 30W through PowerDelivery (Anker PowerCores seem to be able to), you'll easily be able to supply the ~25-27W the Deck needs at the very top end of its own operation - so no charging from the powerbank while playing, but extending the playtime will be perfectly feasible. If you get something like a 20000mAh powerbank, that's basically another 100Wh on top of the Deck's 40, so you could easily triple the gaming time. This looks really cool. Any reason why it wouldn’t be able to get 6+ hours of battery life hooked up to a small Anker portable battery? Does it draw power faster than the anker could supply it?
Which results? The battery life seems good for indie/older titles at 6:30 average. playing 60 FPS AAA is pretty short at 1:40 but you can extend that time by playing at capped 30 FPS. The screen seems good, speakers beat anything in class, loading from SD looks decent. Benchmarks in general look great.I'm really disappointed by these results
Gamers Nexus and phawxAnyone else besides Linus done measurements?

I do this with my Switch on long flights and the Anker Battery will not only keep up, it will charge the system (slowly). It should work the same here. This looks really cool. Yes, it looks terrible… Everyone with a 512 order would be wise to cancel. Definitely do that, no ulterior motive here for me, just looking out for you buddy…Put down 5 bucks for the 512G but I think I'm gonna pass
The shell is a bit like Wii U which is cosy feeling and ugly as hell like the Deck.Honestly the steam deck looks mighty comfortable to hold, my major complain with the switch.
Can't wait to see emulation on this thing.
May I seriously ask...Yes, it looks terrible… Everyone with a 512 order would be wise to cancel. Definitely do that, no ulterior motive here for me, just looking out for you buddy…
Problem with a handheld this size is you have to choose either comfort (Wii U like big and bubbly shell) or style (Switch: looks good but uncomfortable to hold).May I seriously ask...
wtf were you guys expecting?
This thing looks awesome, the battery life may not be the best but you guys do realize its actually the best battery life of anything even similar to this product? Its not basically a 2017 phone (Switch), its a laptop that has much more horsepower. The fact that Valve is selling a $400-$600 gaming handheld that can play pretty new PC games a good framerates under 40w is impressive as hell, and the OS's built in FSR will improve performance (it hasnt been enabled yet).
I'm excited to dual-boot Steam OS and Windows 11 and just screw around with it alone. This is one of the coolest gadgets thats released in a while.

Yea I realized I quoted the wrong post, but regardless what I said stands, I don't really understand what people were expecting. For the price the Deck is at, its a genuinely phenomenal deal, especially in a market where PC parts are in a terribly overpriced state.Just an FYI, the one you quoted is being sarcastic.
More people that cancel their pre-orders, the faster we get ours
I'll be playing both Gamepass along with my crazy large Steam library on mine. They're smart though, I quit gamepass and am taking extra care to always buy from Steam since I reserved the Steam Deck and I'm sure others are doing the same.
Unfortunately, to get the price down to where it is, they had to skimp somewhere. The display is something really important though. 68% sRGB coverage is really, really bad especially considering how important looking at your game on the screen is. Cheap/budget gaming laptops regularly have screens with that poor a color gamut and the experience of gaming is often quite bad on those low-tier gaming laptops. Let's see what more detailed reviews say about it when it's officially released. The display looks to be poor with deltaE's well over 10 and 68% SRB coverage. Those are specs you'd find on $30-$50 burner phones these days, and are likely worse than a launch OG Switch. In real world terms this means primary colors are going to appear muted/unsaturated, secondaries could appear flat out wrong, and whites are going to be biased (tinged toward) a certain color, rather than neutral.

Delays have done nothing to dull the hype around Valve's Steam Deck which launches on February 25th worldwide. The thought of playing one's Steam games in a Nintendo Switch-like handheld has always been appealing and soon, it's going to be a reality.
Let's take a look at 15 things you should know before picking one up in the near or far future, including some new details that have recently been revealed.
20 years ago this would have targeted the gameboy advance.
You can look up the specs of the IC yourself here : MAX779614chan already found out about a chip that's designed for up to 85°C whereas the Steam Deck is running at over 91°C with an ambient temperature of under 20°C - this cannot possibly be good!
Prepare for inbound defective devices.
Even phones today fells hot to the touch without covers. That thing must be insane to actually hold if the CPU can reach upwards of 100 °C+.You can look up the specs of the IC yourself here : MAX77961
Even though the manufacturer gives it a 85 °C limit, according to Valve it is safe up to 105 °C. I'm sure Valve has done a lot of testing and talked to the manufacturer of the IC. The 85°C are probably just an indication to hedge, with air to the top.

Also any word on how loud the fan inside the thing is? looks like a blower.
