Battlefield and COD are horrible this year and fans hate them, so which upcoming shooters might take advantage of this situation?

It's actually been shit for a long while. Call of Duty Blackout is so much better than Warzone. Battlefield hasn't been the same since BF 4.

I think Rainbow Six Siege took advantage early on, but now that has went to shit the last couple of years. Escape From Tarkov is pretty terrible right now.

Right now, Hell Let Loose somewhat scratches that Battlefield itch. Hunt Showdown is decent.

Gamepass is allowing me to give Rainbow Six a go. Gonna give it a try once its available.

Otherwise, my time has been spent between COD CW and Halo

I keep trying Vanguard (heck, I bought it and I want my money’s worth), but I can’t believe how shit it is compared to Cold War.

Performance is crap (there’s this awful judder most of the time whereas Cold War is smooth is silk), movement is sloth-like, TTK is too quick, the maps are pretty much all awful.

The only thing I prefer is that quick scoping snipers don’t appear to be too much of a thing, whereas they plague Cold War.

But to answer the question, Halo Infinite.
I'm really trying to enjoy Halo Infinite, but having never played a (multiplayer) Halo game before, I'm struggling. I just get destroyed over and over, my positioning is horrible, my aim is horrible, its' all just a mess for me.

Gotta be Halo.

Hopefully Factions 2 on PlayStation.

Wish I could find a damn Xbox somewhere. I kinda wanna play Halo.

Cant believe I still cant just walk in to a store and buy a series X. How the fuck do I get one? :|

I think it goes to show how much Battlefield 2042 screwed up. Literally, the field was open for the taking.

As for right now, I very much regret purchasing Vanguard and Battlefield 2042. I recently built my gaming PC, to accompany my PS5, and managed to snag 3 months free game pass. I tried Halo and liked it, but haven't gone back to it since. It's nothing ground breaking and I think it lacks depth. Nevermind some of the technical issues that are still plaguing it. The graphics and gameplay are nice though, and perhaps in the future it will grow into something more compelling.

Right now, it's kinda begrudgingly back to Apex and Siege at the moment for FPS, but I am only playing them sparingly. I did attempt to revisit Star Wars Battlefront 2 (which I love), until I discovered that it is literally unplayable on PC due to the 1 hp hack that is plaguing all the servers. Have no interest in the new Rainbow game, but I will wait and see what the sentiment is.

I've been busy actually playing project zomboid at the moment. Feels like an appropriate time to take a step back from the genre until someone is ready to bring something fresh. I enjoy the large scale team based FPS, but nothing is hitting the mark for me just yet.

I hate the fast TTK in Vanguard. I'm thinking of reinstalling Cold War as I LOVED that one.

I don't know what else there is though--the OP stuff isn't interesting--so...
A lot of people have gotten back into Cold War recently. I think it's a much better game tbh.

I will say, I'm surprised that Halo Infinite isn't mentioned here. I've been playing that a lot recently and it's been great.

Splatoon 3
Splatoon isn't really comparable to an FPS. The weapons lack range and the feeling isn't as satisfactory. I enjoyed most of my time in Splatoon 2, but it got really stale after 150 hours. If the weapons were more satisfying I think I would have liked it better.

Fast TTK is amazing, the problem is with the auto aim in Vanguard. The game is who can hit L2 then R2 the fastest.
Hell ket loose. rising storm 2 on pc is the best mp shooter there is imo
I'll look into Rising Storm 2. Tried Hell Let Loose and was very disappointed in it.

Insurgency has been the GOAT for 14 years now.

What non-BR shooters are coming out this year that have a better chance of becoming popular? I saw a Battlefield scale sci-fi shooter called Leap announced the other day, and there's that new Ubisoft COD-like shooter that's been announced, but I have to wonder if there are some others.

In terms of MP? None. Unless there is a hidden Unreal Tournament or Quake reboot coming. Every AAA FPS over the past year has been fucking pitiful. From terms of just being ANOTHER entry with nothing to set it apart (CoD), to being blatantly broken (Battlefield), to being unfinished and nickel/diming players (Halo), its pathetic.

The only saving grace of shooters aside from the very rare id release has been the Indie/A/AA scene. DUSK, Ion Fury, Cultic, etc.

Tough road ahead for non BR shooters. 83 might interest Battlefield fans though. It's basically a better looking (more variety) Hell Let Loose. Though it's only on PC at release, may come to consoles later.

They wont take any advantage as they dont have even 1/5 of the profit that COD and BF use on their marketing. As a fan of COD, Vanguard is probably one of the worst CODs and its still selling like hot cakes, second most downloaded game on PSN for 2021. So that kind of tells you a lot.

Hyperbole to the max in that title and you come in with some limp dick shooters from no name company and a hero based shooter from ubi.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
Which was stupid because Modern Warfare 2019 was easily the best CoD they have put out in years.
Agreed.

I always bought cod annually.

You could easily feel that the series peaked with mw19, and I didn't bother buying their games since because I knew they won't be able to top it.

If just they used it as a base cod and have put dlcs or something to it instead.

Look at the 2021 NPDs. Vanguard was still the 2nd best selling game, know what was first? Cold War.

COD players are COD players, they will never ever move on.

None. The fanbases complain but keep buying them.

I have seen an influx of COD players in Insurgency. They think they can play it like COD until they learn through death.
Dunno new bf has had alot of refunds, game was free to play over the weekend on xbox, bf is practically dead at this point, even with bugs fixed i cant see them making a combat unless a new game comes out

Vanguard is okay ish, but I only bought it on sale. Bad spawns, but usually very quick time to action. Not much camping because its not really viable on these maps and quick scoping is hardly a thing. I played MW2019 more but that game was full of campers, shit maps, drab colors making campers blend in, I don't know why its so revered. It had fucking Piccadilly, Azhir Cave, Palace, Bridge. Crash didn't work on this game either. Nearly every map, bar Hackney yard, perhaps Gun runner, and Vacant remake, was a piece of shit.

Vanguard isn't great by any means, but BF 2042 is way worse.

I'd say Halo is the best right now. At least for console. But Halo's issue is a lack of unlocks and a bad battle pass (Vanguards battle pass is worthless too though). Its kinda archaic, its the most hardcore and bare bones FPS of these 3.

Whichever studio decides to make a Battlefield Bad Company clone or a Battlefield 4.5 then they are going be a MASSIVE success. Because that is what the Battlefield community wants. Not a half ass Hero Shooter full of bugs.

100% yes!

Battlefield: Bad Company is still my favorite FPS of all time. I'd happily pay full price for a simple remaster.

Have to try Hell Let Loose. Not on pc so I can't try the RS 2.
Hell Let Loose is like Insurgency in open Ww2 maps. You die alot unless you use lots of communication, take your time and slowly scan areas for movement and have a competent squad leader and commander. The game is geared alot more towards role playing and sticking to your designated class for your squad. Its good but its WW2 sim to the max. Theres ALOT to learn. Also the console version needs some serious updating( its on the way) as it just released on consoles late last year like Insurgency Sandstorm.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I think Halo took some good advantage of it already, and releasing the MP for free took the wind out of BF's sails.

As long as you play the right ones they're still awesome. Had a lot of fun with Halo Infinite. Good games are good games.
Good to know there are still some good ones. I got tired of how formulaic they all became. I downloaded Halo Infinite but I haven't had the heart to play it.

  • Infinitely better control than any other console shooter. Best in class gyro aiming.
  • Best mobility options of any console shooter. Run, jump, stealth anywhere with ink, wall run, super jump to allies on the map or to your base, etc.
  • Best campaign gameplay of any console shooter. Proper boss fights and platforming. Other campaigns probably have more graphical spectacle, but in terms of actual gameplay it's no contest. When's the last time you even saw a decent boss fight in a shooter? Halo's bosses are not bad, but not on the level of Splatoon.
  • Best OST of any shooter. Not even close.
  • Best art style of any shooter. Not even close.
  • Fantastic horde mode / co-op mode. The best one basically.
  • Multiple ranked modes and unranked modes for multiplayer.
  • Turf war is a unique mode exclusive to Splatoon, and not present in any other shooters.
  • Free updates to maps, weapons and cosmetics for a year along with specialized splatfest events. Last game also had 1 piece of paid DLC; a well done full expansion with no micro-transactions.
Just on the first bullet point alone, it should never be laughed at. But tons of people who laugh at the series haven't tried it, or ironically find gyro too difficult to use. Ironic, considering the implication is always that it's some shooter for babies, when it's actually more complex than they can even play apparently.

But for the record, I don't think any COD or Battlefield fans will ever gravitate to Splatoon. Their loss.
I adore Splatoon (although I haven't played much of 2; I think I wore myself out on the first one and I preferred the Gamepad to the Joycons).

I think 3 will be the most successful Splatoon yet, especially with so many new Switch owners, but the COD and Battlefield bros are largely not going to even bother playing it as you said. And sometimes I do want more scale that Splatoon so far as simply not offered.
