Halo Infinite - Review Thread

Hendrick's

If only my penis was as big as my GamerScore!
The GMan review is the only one I've watched that actually describes what I'm seeing. Looks super basic and missions sound dull. Will find out soon thanks to GP Black Friday deal.
Some people see what they want to. Have you played the MP? If you like how that feels to play, which is imo incredibly fun, I would expect the SP will feel much the same. Just watching it would not be the same.

Joke's on you, VG247's rating system is 1-101

A game with a perfect score doesn't mean it's without flaws or issues. If it got a perfect score it means the overall quality of the experience that you had with the game was just that damn good, easily eclipsing the minor things. Sometimes the things you love and consider perfect experiences aren't perfect in all things. There's always something you maybe wished it did different or better. That's how it is. Final Fantasy VII back in the PS1 days wasn't what I would label perfect, but it was an unbelievable experience for me, enough for me to look past any issue I had at the time. Lost Odyssey wasn't perfect, but that would have gotten a perfect score from me also, Blue Dragon would have been another perfect score for me. Quantum Break would have been a perfect score from me. South Park: The Stick of Truth would have also gotten a perfect score. Halo 4 would have also. Splinter Cell Conviction? Another perfect score from me. Loved that fucking game.

Every game that has gotten a perfect score anywhere has issues and flaws. None of them are truly ever 100% flawless if we're being totally honest, although there are games I feel that do achieve that. Did people love the weapon degrade system in Breath of the Wild? I sure as hell didn't, and yet it would get a perfect score from me. It just wasn't enough of a problem to degrade the game from a perfect score. Lots of people gave the last metal gear perfect scores. Was that perfect? I sure as hell think not.

A perfect score even when someone acknowledges issues is a sign that the game's strengths are just that fucking strong in the eyes of the reviewer. God of War 2018 isn't perfect, neither was Spider-man, Ghosts of Tsushima, but they all got perfect scores from someone. The best game out of those 3 by far is God of War. It's easily better than Ghosts of Tsushima and Spider-Man PS4. I think the one game among Sony's recent games that's actually on God of War 2018's level is The Last of Us 2, but some would disagree with that. Last of Us 2 and God of War 2018 would get perfect scores from me, the rest, including Horizon Zero Dawn, would not.

Eh. 343 Halos always review well. Halo 4 is at 87 and Halo 5 Guardians got 84 on metacritic.

Neither game connected with me. Halo 4 was mediocre albeit competent. Halo 5 was just a slog. Locke was the original Abby. Just a bad campaign. Reminded me of those Ubisoft and Activision campaigns. Lets hope this is better.
We have seen this song and dance before….

We get close to a Big game release and reviewers/influencer hype the game up and give it high scores than the public actually gets the game and we hear a different story….

Neither way, I am a Halo fan and I planned to play this no matter what score it got.

Actually this is nothing like that. Halo Infinite wasn't just given to any old reviewers, it was given to content creators that barely have 8k subscribers, and some that have zero subscribers lol. If you did something that attracted 343's attention you likely got access to this game. They've had more than a month to review this campaign, many people. How often does any such thing even occur? There were even people playing the base Xbox One version over a month out. This isn't a Cyberpunk 2077 situation, which btw is an amazing fucking game, and has been polished up big time this year, and will only be even better when the next gen release drops.

Cyberpunk 2077 ain't dead, far from it. That is one of the most badass games I've played in a long time. When that polish is there with a next gen upgrade, I'm right back into that awesome world.

Here’s something interesting that I noticed and not sure what to think of it, a couple of reviews have pointed out during their review that they’re strictly talking about Halo Infinite’s campaign, essentially treating the campaign and multiplayer as two different games.

How does that affect the overall score of the game? I mean several reviews contributing to the meta are giving these scores solely on the campaign and not as an overall package. This is sort of a unique situation given that Halo’s multiplayer was always part of the Halo experience as a package.

Dude...its a joke. It was on twitter and it was funny. You made some good points which I already agree with.

Jeff Gerstmann touched on this in his Halo review on Giant Bomb. It’s a good read.

Either way its kind of microsofts fault for splitting them into two and releasing them months apart.

There’s gonna be no way to truly know at this point

strange how, with over 70 reviews, some of you seems to have magically zeroed in on the two most critical reviews. And one of them from a reviewer who already disliked Halo.

Probably because I tend to like reviews that are more critical than the standard media echo chamber that's all about appeasing corporate mega hype interests. We've seen this with every Halo game it seems, especially from the 343 era. I'm not as trusting based on this history.

And Skill Up really liked Halo Infinite! But his complaints were enough to really turn me off from it - but to him the core sandbox was enough.

I mean if you’re already a gamepass subscriber i can’t see a good reason why you wouldn’t just try to game anyway, you gotta get your moneys worth.

I honestly don’t trust anything Jez or Jeff says when it comes to games at this point though.

I don’t think a single post in this thread is strange, people are as transparent as ever, it’s all about having a platform preference and seeing what you want to see. Goes for positive and negative posts. I don’t think it’s anything strange about it, or even wrong, it’s human nature and it would be the same thing in a Playstation or Nintendo 1st party game thread where 10s are popping up. 🤷‍♂️

Personally I can’t wait to jump in on the campaign after seeing the double 10s from two of the veteran game critics in my country! 🤗

It's only certain media mainly a lot of the US based ones. The game has around 40 8's or lower scores so while they say it's good, many reviewers don't think it's great.

Likes moldy games
Yep, guy who doesn't really like Halo doesn't like the new version. Not all that surprising
It's like me reviewing a Souls game. I try to like them but I just don't that much but I appreciate why some people do like them. I'd score them a 5/10 but would just be a waste of time me reviewing the games and of no use to the fans whatsoever.

Gman is a good YouTuber btw. He covers FPS almost exclusively and is always fair with his critiques. It's weird that people would get overly defensive about his review just because he isn't a Halo 'mega fan'.

A review can often be useless if you have nothing in common with the reviewers taste in games. Doesn't mean the reviewer isn't entitled to his/hers subjective opinion.

Wtf do people want this game or Xbox to fail? Lol what's wrong with you people?! 87 is a great score and I cannot wait to play this!

This year's GOTY contenders all scored in the 84 - 90 range, which makes Halo Infinite a (drum roll) a well reviewed game

I just want it to be better then reach and 4
If it achieves this i am happy.

The indoor footage i have seen so far looks rather stale. I hope the campaign starts ramp up like hivebusters dlc from gears (that dlc was fucking awesome)

The Internet: Powered By Confirmation Bias

I mean anyone taking something seriously where the reviewer is so hell-bent on trashing something they claim it looks like a game from the 360 era isn't really in this to build an objective view of the game

The MP is better than 4, I'd like more content and modes before I'd say its better than Reach though. Campaign is pretty much taking the reviews on the chin (reviews are counting the Campaign as a separate entity) and its come out with a very impressive 87 making it one of the best games this year.

They are upset Xbox has games again.

All the releases this year shows they don't give a fuck what the other guys are doing.

The other guys are upset about this.
