Why would they have recouped development costs 2 days before the game is even on sale yet lol? I have never seen anyone even mention development costs in the review thread prior to a game releasing. I think that would be fine to bring up in a monthly sales thread, but it's odd to focus on in this thread.

While the narrative is seemingly designed to bring in players less familiar with Halo’s complex lore by shaking up the setting, the fallout from the previous game’s big twist ultimately ends up driving the plot, and that’s where Infinite loses me. This is by no means a game where you have to care about the story in order to enjoy it, but even as a fan of the series myself, it does feel like it was written more for die-hards than newcomers.

Funny how pretty much all reviews say the gameplay is sublime....which is all I wanted from a Halo game.

Series S version seems like high settings on 1080p (variable) at 60 fps.

If your pc can handily beat that, then go pc.

Going by multiplayer, it seems optimised for controllers with its aim assist.

Honestly, I don't entirely disagree with the sentiment (though I don't think the tone is likely to win people over). Internet debate doesn't do shades of grey (because it's more about one-upmanship than anything else), but it doesn't change the fact that they exist. Good opinions are about 90% objective in that they make logical, contextual deductions from fact (in much the same way as theory and observation work in science) and shitty opinions are about 90% subjective in that they beg and borrow evidence as necessary to substantiate a subjective persuasion (as politicians do with statistics).

Any good review should be mostly objective (at least in substance) and the subjective should either be caveated (mileage may vary, newcomers may be put off, etc.) or at least be in context (compared with prior entries, in a crowded genre, etc.). I think most sensible people know this and it shouldn't need spelling out, but being that reductionism is the first recourse of people desperate to win an argument on the internet, it often feels necessary.

Anyway, I'm waffling... everyone can go back to talking about biomes now.

Some aspects of a review done by an individual are going to be objective and others are going to be subjective. What I think is a great story (TLOU 2 comes to mind) and what someone else thinks isn't always going to jive. Jez Corden thinks the story in Halo Infinite is excellent. Ryan McCafferey disagrees. There is no objective correct answer here since each review brings in their own personal preferences to their review. Inherently, a review is not an objective analysis beyond describing factual metadata.

Regardless, the words "objective" and "subjective" have specific meaning and trying to redefine and misuse these words to portray opinions as factual is just absurd.

Watched the whole IGN review and I was shocked to hear him say a 9/10.

He said the story didn’t do what it set out to do (soft reboot and wrap up the failures of 5), the game looks artistically bland and there is nothing new in the game that we haven’t seen before somewhere else.

That doesn’t sound like a 9/10 to me but hopefully those that play it enjoy it
