Halo Infinite - Review Thread

Why does anyone care if it makes back the development costs? That’s for MS to worry about, all we should be concerned with, is it a good game or not? Fucking armchair shareholders.

Im not too fussed about reviews but I’m glad it’s not universally tanking. Should be a fun game to play through!

Watched the whole IGN review and I was shocked to hear him say a 9/10.

He said the story didn’t do what it set out to do (soft reboot and wrap up the failures of 5), the game looks artistically bland and there is nothing new in the game that we haven’t seen before somewhere else.

That doesn’t sound like a 9/10 to me but hopefully those that play it enjoy it
This. Pretty good scores, but listening to what has been said in the reviews I watched/listened to I got an impression that it's a bland shooter in a very bland semi-open world. But hey, game is on a game pass and you don't have to pay 60 dollars/euros so even if I don't like then it's really no big deal.

Really? At the end, before the score is given, he essentially reaches overload in describing how much he enjoyed the game and was looking forward to the co-op patch.

Impressive. CoD and BF are eating dust right now.

I'm sure both of those titles are doing just fine.

Great news for those who were expecting something good from this game.

I may be not much a fan of Halo, but I can see they deliver something that appeases the fans and deliver an entertaiment experience. I aways appretiate devs going that route, they earn respect from me.

So let's subtract 5 points for no coop or forge at lauch, so we are really looking at a 92. From everything I have seen and read it sounds like exactly what I wanted.

Didnt he say the co op patch is in May? That’s a long ass time for a feature we have come to expect day 1 from this franchise.

Microsoft has absolutely killed it this year. Great way to end the year for them. They've got an insane amount of momentum. Can't wait to play the campaign!
MS has had a lot of complaints for not having any games.

Now they are producing theres no recognition from those people who complained.

Where are those people?

It's the same guy that gave the broken MCC a 9/10.

Fake Fake (since you've cleverly prevented yourself from being directly quoted): yes, really. COD is still all over the charts on MS stores top played games, and BF2042 is within their top 25 played games, surrounded by free and GP eligible titles (while also largely reaching equilibrium on Steam). I doubt Halo Infinite MP has reached such a state as it currently has lost 66% of it's players at peak launch. The long and short: first person shooters are doing fine.

. . .maybe they don't like the games on offer?

So why bring up 500million? Especially if i didnt say that, i know you dont know but warnen has been found in ‘other threads’ worried about development costs so i just thought he would be equally troubled over such a big budget free 2 play game and rather or not it will manage to recoup, berk got involved because shes one of those people who throw out the phrase console warring without any thought or logic.

also i dont owe you a response but im doing it because i actually think youre a decent poster, cant say too much bout the other.

why would you think it relevant to derail into a conversation about ‘recouping budget’ when the campaign is not yet released?
This thread is for the paid single player campaign, not the F2P multiplayer. And even if it were about the MP, it would still be a puzzling conversation to be talking about budget recouping at this point.

Honestly, its the best people can hope. 87MC and free MP. They didn't disappoint, should be enough for Halo fans as of now.

Forge + Coop + 1st major expansion/season whatever will be the second real test if they are committing to Gaas.

I don’t get the point of arguing over reviews when you have not even played the game yet.

If the reviews are good people will say “reviewers are paid off to give good reviews” and if the reviews are bad people will say “they don’t understand Halo”.

Just wait until you can play the game to judge. It will be in game pass day one so it’s not like you need to make a $60 commitment to try out the game.

I'm with you here. Its just as bad as list wars. In the end, it literally means nothing.

Glad to hear it's solid.

Though I'll probably wait until I got better hardware. Don't want to play it with everything set to low like the multiplayer.

Wayment... coop not out until May? The single player isn't feature complete at launch? Rather gaas in nature.

I'll pick it up in May then, since coop is what a buddy and I have done with Halo since 3 on.

I have a decent PC (3700x and 2080 Super) that outperforms my XSX and PS5, but frankly I'm drawn to consoles more these days because of the quick loading. Damn consoles have made me too damn impatient.

This is how I've felt for a decade with consoles. I've had SSD's on pc for a long time it was always hard to go back to the ps4/xbone. Is your pc ssd really that much slower? I have a lower-tier nvme drive and I'm on the home screen in seconds from a cold boot.

Looking to be an insane holiday week(s) for me. Can't wait to jump in. I haven't seen the reviews but just reading the snippets gets me excited to jump.

Yeah, there is a noticeable difference. On PC, I'm running on a 1 TB Corsair MP600 PCIe 4.0, but booting and loading games is noticeably faster on consoles. I was playing Forza Horizon 5 on PC and felt like I was waiting forever for the game to load.

PC is just far behind removing IO bottlenecks at this point. Once DirectStorage and stuff like RTX IO kick in then this will even out though.

You dont have to the like the games to acknowlegde that MS are now producing well received high quality games.

Gotcha. It's not like I've done a side by side but my impression is that my system isn't far off at all. It very well could be. I'm just glad consoles use them this generation. They've been a blessing.

Eh. 343 Halos always review well. Halo 4 is at 87 and Halo 5 Guardians got 84 on metacritic.

Neither game connected with me. Halo 4 was mediocre albeit competent. Halo 5 was just a slog. Locke was the original Abby. Just a bad campaign. Reminded me of those Ubisoft and Activision campaigns. Lets hope this is better.

Interesting, i have FH5 installed on a Sata SSD and it loads pretty fast. I have seen some people on Steam mention it loading slow though.

7 years of development. Only one biome in the campaign. No checkpoint/mission selection and no armour you can find in the game for mp.

What the hell were they doing.
if you think going from a late 2015 Halo 5 release to a late 2021 Halo Infinite release is 7 years, I’m not sure what to say to you.

Yeah its 6 years, with i would guess probably 2 years of that was engine creation. And there are rumours the game was restarted atleast once, so yeah.

Definitely development on Infinite won’t have started right after Halo 5. Halo 5 launched kinda barebones and the studio was all hands on deck to get it up to par with content and features.

It would be cool if they added exclusive mp armor to the campaign. It'd give more incentive to do some of those side-objectives and would help 343 out by encouraging mp addicts to purchase the campaign.

PC was always faster until I got the new consoles. I didn't think it would make much difference, but it has. I'm hoping keyboard and mouse support on Halo Infinite is good enough for me to play on XSX for this reason.

Well it loads in 1-2 secs according to the DF vid, so i doubt PC will be any longer than 4 or 5 secs. With your PC, i'd go PC for sure. At least you can use what settings you want.
