In a hypothetical world where all AAA games are banned but only indie games could be made would you still be a gamer.

I thought about this after playing deaths door right after Disco Elysium and it made me realize how much i love games even without all of the AAA games. Hades for example is the best console game this year along with gems like little nightmare II and It takes two. As much as I love the GOWs, GTA's and Resident Evils of the world i'm realizing my gaming life isn't centered around those games.

I don't play hardly any indie titles, so i guess the answer is no, but i would rarther go back to a time when there was triple A or the best games and then a good B section, maybe not the top games but still good, there doesn't seem to be any middle ground now.

100%. That's like 80% of my Switch library, and a decent chunk of Gamepass. Not like I wouldn't miss bigger budget games, but suggesting I'd suddenly give up the entire hobby for playing games I'm playing right now is crazy town.

Graphics are nice and all, but they genuinely aren't the most important thing to me.

Of course. I mainly play indie titles these days. Not saying I don't play AAA games nor that I don't like them. Still do, still playing. But yes, absolutely would still be gaming.

Yes I would. Gaming kinda started like that. When it became a big business things went for the worse in term of freedom and creativity. I mean can you imagine something like Kingdom Hearts getting approved today?

Now it is open world for the sake of open world with most AAA. Indie keep experimenting and when an indie game becomes successful, AAA jump on the bandwagon and beat that concept to death.

With great games like Dead Cells, Darkest Dungeon, Salt & Sanctuary, Frostpunk, Children of Morta and so many more, ABSOLUTELY! I could easily play only indies and be happy.

My playtime is about 50/50 between AAA and indies. Yes, of course, I'd keep playing games.

I'd be disappointed to not get AAA games as well, but I wouldn't give up videogames altogether.

I think I would have taken more breaks than I do now. I go through phases, like many others I think, where i need smaller games and not long 40 plus hour games. Indie games usually fix the void in-between the tentpole AAA games and many times they end up being more entertaining than the AAA release I pick up and dont require nearly the time commitment.

10-15 yrs ago my amount of time playing AAA vs indie maybe 80/20

Today, not even close, probably 80/20 for indies but looking at what I have finished this yr more like 90/10. AAA is a snooze fest, lets be honest. Im tired of remakes, remasters and never been a fan of games past the #3.

Its just a hobby play what ever you want but I would reverse the title and say "If AAA were the..." Yea, I would probably be looking for another hobbey. There was a reason i looked elsewhere and took 10 yr break from gaming and could easily do it again.

I would still support gaming if there were only indies. Never played an indie before though unless Rocket League technically counts as one

I would probably shut up shop and that's no disrespect to indie games. There are many which I've had the pleasure of playing and enjoyed, but AAA announcements are the ones that really make my heart pound.

Fare thee well

That's basically the world I live in now since mainstream barely covers the genres/styles I love. I have barely touched EA, Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, etc. games over a very long time (except when they were newer studios).

Thank god for new bold studios. Even though many can fail, the next great idea rarely comes from an old rotting leviathan of a company.

I dont play big budget games on PC because my laptop cant handle it. My PC gaming has been great plowing through lots of cheap ass $5 games on Steam and GOG deals. Low end stuff like board games and mobile kinds of games that are indie-ish. I started doing Steam and GOG last Dec or Jan for the first time and its sweet..... although got to say the Steam client is slow, and needs to update half the time I load it??? Not exactly super fast some reason.

On console, I used to buy a lot of $1 XBLIG twin stick shooters and cheesy zombie games. It's s slog to get past the junk, but there were lots of incredible $1-5 games which were better than $10-15 XBLA games.

No/maybe. I’ve enjoyed some Indies like Inside and Hades (does Rocket League count) but the Sony and Rockstar AAA plus a few other choice titles (Gears horde, Re4 remastered) are some most enjoyable entertainment I’ve had across most media.

Yeah I would still play as its something that is ingrained into me. It would change my gaming habits though. I would play less as high quality indie games are few and far between usually, though this gen could be a very good era for indies going by what I have seen so far.

I was just thinking about this, and I just don't like indie games. The only ones that rise above are copies of big games (bloodstained) or are so perfect they are indistinguishable (hollow knight, outer wilds). Most stuff trying to be not your average game is tossing out polished elements that work.

I ain't playing these shit puzzles, platformers, puzzle platformers, splatformers, walkarounders, rogue simulators or nothing anymore.

But there’s bound to be an “indie” game with a AAA budget among the rest. it’s still relative. But, the answer is yes.

Report me if I continue to console war
Yes, but not as much, the medium would advance at a snails pace, and some genres just would not be possible.

Sure, let’s hear them. I probably wont get around to them for a very long time but I do plan on one day playing Eastward to start things off
Hades
Into the Breach
Velocity 2X
Celeste
Mr. Shifty
Huntdown
Children of Morta
Blasphemous
Dicey Dungeons (got this recently for $5 on Switch)
Lonely Mountains Downhill
Cyber Shadow
The Messenger
Golf Story
Steamworld Dig 1 and 2
Nex Machina

Off the top of my head. I could check all my game libraries when I get home. There's just so many that are good, and cheap.

Voted no. I think there have been a handful of Indies that I've enjoyed over the years. Divinity OS and OS 2, Rebel Galaxy, Rebel Galaxy Outcast, Hades and some others. These are fine every now and again but if this was the best of the best in gaming then I wouldn't bother.

I'm a AAA type of gamer. I like the big stories, big worlds, big gameplay. All of it. Indies are something I play to fill the gap.

Indie games have come a long way. On consoles, most of them use to be just a step above flash games. Now some of them like Stardew Valley, made by one person, in many ways is outclassing the likes of Animal Crossing which has dozens of devs working on it. I think we are seeing a lot more creatively from indie devs.
