Volition won't back down to negative feedback on Saints Row reboot trailer - says its just a shock reaction

Saints Row has always come across as a cheap knockoff GTA geared toward a younger audience. I mean didn't you play as the president in one of them fighting off an alien invasion with super powers?

Of course they are taking on a Fortnite aesthetic, that's where the audience they have always appealed to is right now.

This has always been like a B-tier game, I'm amazed people are getting so worked up over this.
Fans expected the reboot more in line with the 1st.

I never really cared for Saints Row series but like it or not devs are free to make whatever they want, game industry would be in big trouble if devs loose their freedom.

Whatever the issue is. Im on the developers side. I love it when developers dont let bitches in the internet tell them what to do.
Exactly.

If the game flops, it flops. Let them do what they want. Don't like it, let them know (IN A CIVIL MANNER) and don't support the game.

That's a winning strategy right there.

The managers of these official twitter accounts never learn, do they?

If the reason they are turned off is because they live in a society where no one cares what race you are and what lifestyle you have (as long as it doesn't hurt others) but they view it as pushing an agenda to overcompensate for a perceived past lack of representation, would you consider that a valid reason to be turned off by it?

I don't know why people can't see the difference between, "I hate X race outright" and "they've put lots of X race in this to push an agenda rather than because that race has anything to do with the character", ie pandering.
For that reason I would take little offense to and actually understand it quite well, but given news headlines from some of the places listed I sincerely doubt that's what they meant.
To the second point in an American setting a character can be any race gender or anything in-between without it having anything to do with the character. They can be black and trans and have it not be mentioned. It seems like your saying white male is generic and anything else is not unless it's an integral part of the character, but gay trans Aboriginal could be generic as well.

THE NEW GAME'S REVEAL TRAILER CURRENTLY HAS MORE DISLIKES THAN LIKES ON YOUTUBE

Despite this, developer Volition has made it clear that it isn’t going to change the vision it has for the game based on the initial reaction to the trailer.

After responding to a follower with a gif saying “haters gonna hate” and being told it was letting down the fanbase, the official Saints Row Twitter account replied: “We are not backing down on this game. We get it, it’s new and it’s a shock reaction to a reboot like no other.

FWIW, in the trailer thread, I said the small snippet of gameplay 15-20s actually looked ok and I'd just ignore the weird characters like I did in WD2. More about the arrogance and PR on that tweet to be honest. As soon as you get into principles and start blaming the reaction on the fans then..........

It's interesting whether they will succeed on their bet if if that further tanks the whole industry towards generic shallow online crap, or if indeed we knew from the get go this would fail.

I hope the latter, because during any period when corporation overused bullshit marketing analysis to make decision instead of creative and crafts decisions leading, they start to lose heavy.

But then it's a weird situation where people confuse just having diverse characters with SJWs pandering, the character are not the problems, the way they design, write and implement them is.

I can't wait to see their reaction when the game sells like crap
I'm sure they will insult the fanbase on Twitter and blame them for the game failure

At least there's an easy way to save the game: change the characters around. Make the game about those gangers and let's kick the shit out of those annoying hipsters instead.

Just now watched the trailer. Didn't like it. Disliked the music, but my tastes are not overly mainstream. No gameplay which almost always makes me dislike a trailer.
Don't see any issues though. Not enough dialogue to actually call any of the characters anything.

I don't get what they mean with "A reboot like no other?"
Seems like a generic open world where you fight against various "factions" with the most generic 2021 style art direction and character design

You see, they all think they make unique shit while being identical to all the other recent sjw output. Same designs, same way of speaking in games and interviews. Same petty shitting on fans on twitter.

The problem is these people live in Twitter bubbles and think everyone inside their bubble is a reflection of the gaming public. So they make a modern game that they think will appeal to everyone but it appeals to nobody

Volitiion struck absolute gold with SR3, but there have been what, 4+? more releases since and each one has declined in both its relevance and sales. I don't think anyone wanted this or was asking to be honest but maybe they are just making it to get some....o wait, yea they got Epic $$$ so maybe some GP free $$$$ on their way too.

the graphics looks fine and the few bits of game play could be good "huge maybe" everything looks like trash no shandi, pierce, no gat, no kenzy, no matt, i thought the black female character was like aisha since one of the endings for the DLC for sr3 and gat out of hell is that the timeline gets reversed back to Saints row 2s ending. But nope lets make a whole new game that looks like a spin off of watch dogs and not the 1st one the one with a some what serious tone and serious characters like Bedbug,Raymon, clara and jordi na lets use Watch dogs 2 as the baseline nothing like quoting a internet twitter meme from 2010 so funny...........................................

Honestly nobody was asking for a new Saints Row.

This new game should have another name...they are just using SR name for marketing

A new firsth day Gamepass contender has born

Muh-norities is my guess. It's usually the common thread between all the games that evoke this kind of reaction. That's gender and ethnic minorities, to be exact. But some will try to convince us that this is only coincidental.
You think people would have issue if they did like a 90s gangster theme?

No of course not.

Saints Row is a gangster simulator like GTA. Nobody is buying it when they put a bunch of GenZ TikTokers in as main characters. Its like if GTA4 in 2008 came out with an emo 18 year old as the main character

Wow, people are angry. About absolutely everything. All the time.

The trailer with the devs talking about how BADA$$ their game is was horribly embarrassing, and a crazy overcompensation. But, at the same time, internet warriors posting the SICKEST burns like 'double down idiots and I'll DOUBLE DOWN ON NOT BUYING UR SHIT GAME #GETWOKEGOBROKE' is equally pathetic.

How about this. Buy it. Or don't. Or whatever. You know? Nobody expects this to be Metal Gear Solid 2 - it's going to be forgotten a few weeks after it releases anyway, so who gives a fuck. Let's all take some time to focus on our breathing and our blood pressure.

The people they are trying to relate to do not buy games, they spend all day on twitter doing their activist bullshit.... which is mostly just posing.

Go to 15 seconds here and the girl posing like she is actually doing something to help people... 'performance activism' is exactly correct.

unhinged narcissists.

Thanks for posting that video, I'm gonna get some use out of it.

people who are upset at this change played SR when they were younger.

If the argument is this is a game for kids, then it probably isn't wise to call it Saints Row. It should be a new IP

They are right, they should stay true to their creative intent for the better or the worst.
This is how video games will become art.
So we create art by trying to garner likes and retweets from cretins like resetera users? That to me doesn't sound like you are following your artistic vision, but more trying to please a very vocal minority. And we all know how this will go... I just don't get how you can create something like Saints Row with characters that look like they have come straight out of a WB teen show. If that is what they truly wanted to do then fuck me, they really have no idea and i'm hoping for a massive failure.

Sosokrates

Report me if I continue to console war
I have not seen enough to make a judgement on weather the characters+ story are good.
I am pleased it is more based on real world activities and not battleing aliens and hordes of neon enemies.

The footage we have seen of the game so far though does not really show what the vibe is though.

E.g
Saints row 1+2 takes inspiration from black gangster movies like boys in the hood and music liKE N.W.A.

GTA5 takes inspiration from the movie heat.

I dont know what the saints row reboot is going to be like

You have Eligh, who is a criminal who rather plan a crime using his intellect then going in guns blazing

You have Nina who is a latina who is family orientated, a great car gear head and a bit of a psycho.

You have Kevin who is a wannabe chef looking to get a new start.

These characters actually dont seem to bad. My issue is that while they are clearly very different but they are sharing a very similer hipster fashion and look.
GTA5s main characters were very distinctive not only in there personalities but also in there lifestyles and appearances. This saints row reboot needs to do the same otherwise these characters will lack some distinctiveness and look like a bunch of hipster students.

Ah, the Ol' EA Battlefield 5 strategy. "If you dont like it dont buy it then." Sales will flop. "Toxity" and "racism" will be the culprits instead of making a product nobody asked for or wants.
Yep, I couldn't resist peeking over at the thread at the asylum and it only took a few posts before this gem was posted:
Lemme guess, the incels are pissed the trailer showed POC and women destroying white men gangsters?
Of course this person has an animu avatar :pie_roffles: . Obviously they never played Saints Row otherwise they'd know it was always super diverse and nobody ever had a problem with it.

This game has me tempted to buy a second hand 360 to replay the OG.

This thing oozes so much "howdoyoudo fellow kids" soy energy that I don't think I would play it if it came to GamePass.

I actually like the direction. I loved that trailer. Not in agreement at all with the negativity on this. And since Rockstar refuses to even release a GTA in timely fashion anymore, Saints Row and other things can fill that void.
if it is that bad a cucumber might just fill out that void too..

The hell is woke/sjw/soy about any of this? lol

It looks corny to me, but so are the old games and I loved them.

I honestly just don't care that much as long as missions are fun and the world is cool; I'm a cut-scene skipper anyways.

While I agree for the most part, it can be a little more complicated when dealing with well established and possibly beloved franchises. People are always going to have greater expectations then and it is a bit fucked up to just turn on them and force them to adapt to something totally different than what they were hoping for when their loyalty is what keeps you employed. Especially when using that same IP/Title because you know it's going to automatically sell more just off name recognition alone. All that said, I don't really think that's what's happening here. I don't think this reboot is such a departure from what has been after seeing some gameplay and I'll take a wait and see on it.

I actually respect them sticking to their vision. Let them make the game they want to make.

That being said, that reveal trailer did kinda suck. Looked boring and not much like what I enjoyed from Saints Row, but I'll reserve judgement til we get to see more gameplay.

One good thing came of this game. I was reminded to pick up a copy of gat out of hell for ps4 lol. Never played 4 and I avoided the remaster on ps4 due to fps but you can brute force 60 on ps5 so yay.
