Halo: Infinite - No Co-op or Forge at launch

Derktron Derktron

Everybody complaint about Cyberpunk. Not because the game was left out on features but because it was a broken mess and only playable on PC. CDPR kept their mouth shut till after release. MS is honest upfront.

I'm expecting a half baked 3 hour campaign padded to infinite hours with open world gaas filler thanks to game pass and a f2p pvp with 2 playlists and 6 maps, there's no way I'm going to be disappointed...right?

That's the formula these days, from miles morales to far cry. At the end of the day it's going to be open world objective based gameplay. It's nothing to do with gamepass. You can buy Halo if you don't subscribe to GP/GPU and just pick the battle passes up (which have pretty much defined a new standard for what players will expect from all season pass content going forward).

You'll have all the hallmarks of the modern game. Retreading steps for' reasons', collectibles, respawning 'events' or enemy patrols etc.

So many people making asses of themselves in this thread. Reminds me of those people comparing the QTE cinematic escape from Tomb Raider 2013 to platforming gifs from the original as 'evidence'.

The Internet has spawned an entire generation of people who deliberately revel in having people perceive them as dumb with analogies from the nursery ballpit, just so long as someone in 'their side' tells them they did good.

Multiplayer people will be disappointed that Forge isn't there at launch.
Others will be disappointed that coop isn't there at launch.

It is what it is. We can all just wait until after Christmas because the third parties will own the holidays anyway. Just like I'm doing because there's no GT7 or H:FW. It's not a big deal.

I mean they even say in the video that they got an extra year, but it was a covid year, and they had no one in the office for most of that time.
Take covid away and yes the 'concern' would be more understandable.
Like others have said, this isnt some 10 hour linear coridoor shooter with basic tacked on multiplayer.
You guys are downplaying it though. This has been a very long wait, with or without covid.
And then add in that they were going to sell us this game last year, when they can't even fully ship it this year, and you really have to wonder what they're thinking.
I think it's hard to look at this in a vacuum. People are justifiably exhausted with 343 and this really doesn't help.

I'm really looking forward to the game. Even though co-op is my favorite mode, this isn't a deal breaker for me, by any means. I really think it will be a great game, but this is another bad look in a series of bad looks, for 343. You can't blame people for rolling their eyes.

FUCKING LOL. After a 1year delay too, what the fuck are they doing over there?

Wow. Just wow. I wonder what content were they supposed to launch one year ago, before the delay?

In any other industry or sector, 343s top management would be looking for new opportunities.

They won't rebuild the game for only Series consoles and PC at this point so I don't see a problem with the XB1 version.

But the talk is real, on all boards, and the negativity snowball is rolling. It's a real bummer after the positive multiplayer talk. Going by past situations Microsoft are listening to the community, so we'll see what they're doing. Maybe they can get all their studios to come in and collaborate and get the content in before launch.
It is not about rebuilding, it is verification and testing. Everything they do must be tested on all supported platforms… software development boils down to: scope (features, platforms, etc…) + time + quality (bit versatile definition of quality)… pick two.

Are you short of time, cut scope for example… what is scope? Platform support is one of them.

I also think that COVID productivity loss is a bit too overstated… in many cases good teams have been way more productive, but if you were keeping them productive by breathing on their neck and applying social/peer pressure to keep each other in the office (and you have swaths of contractors or newbies that do not really care for the product their are working on or cannot work well without constant supervision…) well yes…

This means that the game is not ready, by far.
They are cutting co op, after they promised it, to release it later, to try to get time to fix up the rest of the game.

It will be buggy and unpolished.
And again. They should have delayed it 2 years, not 1, and they should have changed a lot of people
Or they focused on the parts that they could properly polish up in time for release. And since co-op and forge won't be rushed they will have the time to get them right, without delaying the entire game.

IMO they should've release just the F2P MP this holiday and delay the campaign for ~half a year if that's what they need to release full package.
It's a tricky situation, lots of people won't bother playing co-op if they have already played through it solo once coop arrives. And if there is only MP this year lots of people wouldn't think the game was as good without campaign, that's the talk Battlefield gets right now.

I think it's better to make it a full 2022 release. It sucks if the marketing department has already got things planned or ready, but it'll suck more if they get lots of negativity at the launch. And the end of 2021 is crowded anyway in the shooter genre. Deathloop, Far Cry 6, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Back 4 Blood, Halo, and more I'm sure.

The campaign got pushed to 2022.

Why would someone play an online game with just half the screen? Everyone is now online, no need to move over to your buddy´s house no more ..., you´re only getting the F2P "Warzone, Battle Royale" this year (for $185).

Co-Op online? Why? My buddies from my teen-years are gone, dead ... i´m not taking the console, the pad or the memory card over now to my buddies to play a game with them.

Are people still doing that? Thought the perception was, that LAN parties were dead. Never understood the whole co-op debacle with Halo 5 ... we are all online.
And in co op games people complain that can't play solo because have no one to play like in the sea of thieves thread here in gaf

Why can't people be reasonable??

It's understandable they have to delay some (important) features to make the deadline.

Considering there was some work left even last year (Craig demo).

Shame about No co op I was planning on playing it with a friend on legendary.

Makes you think just how bad 343 are
TBH i really dont like how 343 is taking all the heat for certain things. They have there fair share in this song and dance but its really Xbox that failed them as a publisher, They placed unrealistic expectations and added pressure in there PR pitch when trying to hype the series boxes, Remember "eats monsters for breakfast"? Etc etc. and then infinite is finally revealed and its like wow….. yeah ok this aint it chief, just one of many traps laid by team xbox on a already pressure cooked 343 team.
And now instead of standing in solidarity with your dev team after setting them up for failure with a launch release date that cleary was not ready, they leave them left out to hang dry. I see why bungie left.

It hurts, first playthrough co-op in 2-4 were some of my best gaming times. It's not like it would be illegal for them to make a singleplayer only Halo though.

It's hard to tell but if that was their plan then they should have said it much sooner. The trailers seem to suggest that Chief is on his own so co-op wouldn't make much sense kind of like in Halo 1, if it was there.

It is a shock but I hope the singleplayer is good if they are putting so much focus on it that they had to cut features like co-op.

A product should be reviewed on how good the game is not what potential features are missing. I hope they don't discuss co op missing etc because that would mean games like the last of us 2 should have been marked down for missing multiplayer.

I personally wont play the coop anyhow but I know a lot of people do, truly amazing how bad off this game still is.

I haven't played a lot of Halo over the years but know many diehard Halo fans and this was pretty disappointing to my son especially who has loved Halo pretty much his whole life.

How big of a deal is this no co-op for Halo players?

Huge for me. Love playing the Halo campaigns via co-op mode with my brother Solarstrike Solarstrike

MS should have just delayed the game until Spring/Summer of 2022 with *everything* ready to go. This game misses the launch of the Xbox Series X due to
it not being ready last November. Here we are in August 2021 and the game will STILL NOT BE FINISHED when it launches.

What a huge let down. What.In.The.Hell. is going on over at 343?! With all the extra studios MS bought, IMO there's *NO EXCUSE* for this game launching unfinished at this point.

MS should just let 343 release the multiplayer this year and delay *ALL* single player/Forge content until Spring/Summer 2022.

When will Phil Spencer address the disaster that is 343?
  • Maybe he will do it quietly, with key replacements made as this project reaches completion?
  • Maybe he will do it extravagantly, with a whole team being wiped out?
It needs to happen, and I hope Phil has the resolve to make the tough calls.

I am utterly fascinated to see how this game actually is once it comes out.

The biggest question in my mind is whether the game will be any good even if it takes so much time to happen. If they manage to capture the past greatness of Halo it will be impressive even if it took forever and a day to do it.

I'm expecting a rather mediocre package with a lot of shortcuts, cut corners, padding, lame design decisions, and littered with tiny gameplay/UI annoyances.

Being free to play doesn't instill that much confidence.

I hope it is good but this franchise feels ready to die to me.

yeah, they dropped the ball by not having a co-op campaign at launch. With that said I prefer playing alone in campaign always have, but it was always nice having the option to play with friends. hopefully, the free update comes soon after launch.

I am a bit disappointed that forge won't be there though, I imagine that's going to take a while to launch but they shot themselves in the foot not having that at launch. But as long as it's on its way then it is what it is.

I just want to play the game at this point, and see if it's good honestly. I didn't like Halo 4/5 multiplayer, the multiplayer looks fun in this.

Very nice gun in that video. 0.0)

The campaign looks really interesting can't wait to dive into the world they built.

Well, shit happens. I hope they still make it successful and what they release is polished. Good luck to 343i.

What's more baffling to me is how MS/343i thought that the game was ready to be released in Nov. 2020. If not for Craig, it was releasing LAST year. It's utterly incomprehensible what they were going to release. Also, here is a developer quote from Jan. 2021. This makes me wonder if co-op and Forge were ever going to be there at launch.

"All of our launch content is in-game and being played daily but it takes a strong effort to get something from 90% to a full 100% ship quality. So, we are pushing hard to squash bugs and tune our toys so they are in a good spot as we get closer and closer to launch."

Nobody should be surprised if Halo will get a bunch of 7/10 scores because of this, which will paint it as an average game for the eternity even if they update it in a few months.

Lots of people still think Sea of Thieves is an average game because of this:

Critics only rate the day 0 version, they don't know what to do with GaaS games yet, they never return for a second review after an update so the day 0 state is still the most important period in a game's life.
And yes, reviews matters, especially in combination with angry fans which we clearly see will happen here. A snowball of negativity is difficult to stop.

They should delay it.
Let Call of Duty and Battlefield fight it out this year. Release it in March 2022.

This game has been in obvious development hell, the director stepped down, they delayed it a full year and it's still unfinished and they're not showing the sp campaign and there's still no release date.
If you're expecting high metacritic scores for this game just because it's named Halo you're probably going to be disappointed.
At this point after a full year delay the best thing is to ship something decent (75 metacritic) and go ahead with the management seriously addressing the obvious issues at 343i.

No co op at launch sucks, but in the end all that matters is if the game is good. That was make or break before, and that's the same situation now

I'm thinking it'll be even worse to release an unfinished game after a long delay, why not just delay it until it's finished?
I don't think everyone can expect to successfully do a Hello Games turnaround later.

i really dont get this mentality. just play mp for a few months. just sounds like people being petty. unless you are seriously only getting halo for the 6 hour campaign
Why do you think that everybody wants to play mp?
I loved it in 2, got dead tired of the toxic ambient, loved the 3 beta, got tired after game release. I will be playing mp about 2% of all the play time. Same as with Destiny.

I have been introducing my wife to halo in preparation of Infinite co op. Now we won't be able to discover it together, cause I won't wait and

Its only a few months! Its like listening to my kids.

343 could delay the whole game but why, when campaign and MP is good to go.

The Ascent has coop but its a buggy mess... which is damn frustrating would rather that be delayed.

Lets get it right the first time. When its ready its ready.
Do you think that the game is polished and ready?
And then they decide to delay co op?
The single player is now a buggy mess and they are worried about being able to launch so much that they delayed the coop features to invest more time fixing the rest.

They have to deliver a Stella campaign and all will be forgiven. Removing co op just highlights even more how much they need to nail campaign and multiplayer.

If this is swimming in 8s it's a bust for them. Obviously there will be the odd 8 but it needs to be received by 9, 9.5s and 10s imo.

This obviously sucks but the overreaction here is that people act like coop and forge has been cancelled all together.
Coop launching 3 months after the main game is fine and forge was delayed for h5 (?) as well so…

I don't get what you're not getting. I'm stoked for the game, have been for a long time, but yeah, I don't play multiplayer. I've played through every campaign except 5 on a couch with my wife, and that's how we have fun with shooter games. Is it so hard to understand that some people prefer to play with their loved ones rather than strangers on the internet?

Feel bad? For having to wait a few monthly for something? People need to get some damn perspective.
Says 6 months as of right now. Could turn into a 9 months or more with covid and how things are going. YES, I feel bad for people who really enjoy this and have to wait. What's the problem?
