That shit is miniscule and often times the supersampling AA effect isn't worth the performance hit when things like TAA and TAAU are constantly improving. If i'm on a 1080p TV paying $200 more for what effectively amounts to better antialiasing seems a waste.

I could justify X's increased price over S purely on the basis of the size of the internal SSD.

S is a just a bad buy. Period.

You want an Xbox, buy an X. If you want to just play Xbox games, stream it to a device of your choosing via XCloud or the inevitable stick SKU.

Of course he's right. It's 2021 and the machine is already demonstrating severe drops in performance and cutbacks in game quality already.

By the midpoint of the generation I imagine a lot of people who get it will have buyer's remorse. But for the Fortnite crowd / little kids it makes sense.

Wonder what will happen to Switch owners.

Are you able to be in one Series S thread without labelling other peoples posts as not a 'real point'?

Why constantly antagonise people because they pointed out some unflattering facts? It seems excessive.
Are you a defender of people who have no legitimate points? I asked a simple question about what appeared to be a disingenuous argument about ID being a MS first party when Doom Eternal was developed. You know it was disingenuous because you make those arguments all the time. There is nothing factual about ID being a MS first party when Doom Eternal was developed.

They were first party when they made next gen patch. All other next gen consoles has raytracing so obviously there was a technical limitation which prevented its inclusion.

Why attempt derail another thread with this, it's been done to death.

DF getting paid to advertise a product that is not selling well. News flash Microsoft, this will not help you DOA product. DF is not that influencial.
I got an S and it's a great little machine. The look of it is very appealing. The functionality is very impressive for the price. And it's the cheapest console on the market, and perfectly compliments their new Gamepass approach.

For me, it's the perfect price point to try a MS system out. I already have PS5 and Switch and spend a lot of money on games. It's hard to really justify another $500 as being worth it when I already have a $500 console.

I can pick up this cheap system on the side and play everything they have without having to even buy any games.

its good for those on a budget i suppose. personally i would rather a £350/$399 xbox series x digital instead. would have been perfect. series s is useless to me because it wont make proper use of my 4ktv.

They were not a first party when the game was developed. They made the design choice to focus on 120 fps over raytracing for the XSS. I've noticed you do quite a bit of goal post moving with regards to the XSS. When an XSS game has raytracing you complain about draw distance, when it has 120 fps you complain about no raytracing. So much concern and commentary about the console that is $300 and doesn't affect you in the least. What you have not done is shown a device that offers better performance for the price or explain why you hold the budget console to a higher standard than consoles that cost more and offer less. The only derailing here is more of your disingenuous complaints. Maybe you should sell your XSS if you are unhappy with it.

Constantly warring... you've written those exact sentences in 50 other threads.

Can you stop derailing and arguing in this thread now.

I don't get this. A lot of games run at 2K and they look absolutely fine on my Sony 4K TV. You're getting upscaled games from the Series X and PS5 anyway most of the times. To me, it's a non-issue and does not make a game worst or anything like that.

It's a $300 4TF machine arriving 7 years after a $400 1.8TF machine, making it arguably the second worst generational leap in the industry's history (and second only by a hair). The only thing brilliant about it is how brilliantly bad it is. The various slim redesigns over the years are much more of a marvel than the SS.

This implies TF are some sort of linear model of improvement. The CPU and SSD are huge generational leaps. Multi generational, really compared to the shit in last gen.

I thought teraflops were dead and didn’t matter and it was all about the SSD and I/O speed? Where did I read that…

they might axe it but chances are it'll likely be replaced by a new budget model. i can't see MS putting out a budget device and screwing people over in a few years.
Once the components of the Series X becomes cheaper they might just release a cheaper disc less Series X and have that replace the Series S.

Yes and last gen itself was a historical outlier, shipping with CPUs that arguably might have even been a regression from PS360 (particularly the Cell). That's saying nothing of the memory of SS, a 50% improvement, the single worst generational leap in history besting even the Wii.

What about people who don’t really care about 4k, but want ray tracing and reasonable draw distances? Like me?

It’s really not that simple IMO.
You get this, rarely does 4K, comes in 21th of september 👍
Make sure to stack up some cheap years of Gamepass Ultimate as well, then you’re all set for not being grumpy for a few years since you already have the PS5 too👌 De ä ba å köp! 😉

Kinda wierd to make a video 8 months after its release, but it is interesting to see how its built
Well since series S is the only avaliable Microsoft console on a lot of countries they need to push it.

Its a good machine for last gen games but for current gen better get a PS5 digital....just talking on machine capabilities not game or subscription options

I think the actual article text would be more triggering.

"To be clear, my overall opinion of the console and its performance has not changed - Series S works but there's still the sense that the cutbacks to spec were a little too severe. Specifically, I still think it should have shipped with more memory and a wider interface for more bandwidth."

"It's still early days in the generation and in terms of how gaming will play out in the long term, it's still difficult to judge to what extent Series S will be able to keep up in a world where technologies like Unreal Engine 5 are already placing serious demands on Series X and PlayStation 5 hardware."

Yeah no doubt it's a brilliant design but unfortunately to much gimping was done in the specs for $300.
It should of been priced $200 or even $250 as that would of caused major market penetration as they are in stock almost everywhere I go. This wouldn't be the case if it was stronger or cheaper.

Access to GamePass if you want it is the only reason.

Hardware-for-hardware the Series S is a rip-off when compared to the PS5 Digital Edition.
I disagree. For the $400 budget you get a console + games vs. just a console alone. Unless you are making a paper spec comparison and ignoring what the console is for, the XSS is clearly the better value. If price is no object a regular PS5 is a better deal so you can buy used disc games and borrow games from your friends. With the Sony monopoly on digital games the DE becomes a bigger ripoff.

Here's a video of a similarly speced PC to an XSS. It is more than twice as much despite NOT offering twice the performance advantage.

Price for performance is the best advantage of the XSS. No one can show a device that offers better performance for LESS.

Microsoft flight sim runs fine on it and all "next gen" games will do as well. Nothing to worry about. Even ratchet would run fine on it since it doesn't require 7000+MB/s SSD to run properly.

It's great for the price but... nobody asked for that video or for that console

Errr, they may not have asked for it but many have bought it and are very happy with it for the price. And there is nothing wrong with the video.......does it threaten you somehow?

I was literally asking for this exact type of console before it was announced.

I will never buy two $500 boxes when one of them will be used only for a handful of exclusives and 99% of their titles overlap as multiplatform. I already have a $500 PS5 and a $300 Switch. If I was ever going to get an Xbox, it had to be a cheaper supplemental purchase or I would just skip it.
