Brazilian Playstion fans are getting mad at Sonys lack of regional pricing.

MLB The Show, a game developed by Sony, costs ARS 11900 on Playstation, and ARS 859 on Xbox.
The same fucking game is 14 TIMES more expensive.
But sure, people pay for quality and etc.
Isn't the price difference because it's currently on gamepass?

Faithless83

Nope. Those are the regular prices on the respective stores. If I consider the standard 20% off of all games currently on gamepass then the game is 17 times more expensive.
Weirdly enough in the brazilian stores they are at the same price (,05 cheaper on PSN).
The thing is, even in here (Brazil), were gaming is expensive as fuck to the average consumer, people will still side with playstation.

I don't need your PSN as proof, I need you to show me how PSN sales are better priced than Xbox sales.

Show me an example of PSN bottom price being that much better than the Xbox version, to prove that PSN digital being better.

I'll wait......

I told you in my original post I get psn credit far cheaper than xbox store credit. Shopto, cd keys, eneba, all have psn credit cheaper than xbox credit so I get my digital games cheaper by default. If a games 60 I usually pay 50 at launch on psn, xbox is literally the full 60.

Let's look at the quality of this week's xbox sale

Vs the one on PlayStation

Ever since gamepass has took off the xbox sales have been getting worse and worse.

Vote with your wallet. It's super easy. Sell your console and go the PC or Xbox.
Windows is trash and is looking more and more like 90s adware that would install itself on your computer.

All their software is turning into endless subscriptions

PC hardware prices are insane as now you’re spending the cost of a Xbox for an entry level GPU

Xbox is infested with DRM disguised as features

Go FreeBSD, MacOS, Linux if you really want to vote with your wallet.

They'll have their show soon and everyone will forget about all of this and just get a second job. Fanboys will keep forgiving them regardless. Arrogant Sony is back. From the way Indy devs are treated to these regional pricing disparities. Hopefully MS puts a good dent into their momentum this gen so that we get 4theplayers Sony back. Then next gen Xbox can come back with Kinect 2.0 and the cycle can continue.

Indie devs need to make good games first. Every indie game I’ve played the only two I’ve liked are Void Bastards and Binding of Isaac. All of them look and play like rip offs of superior games I played when I was kid and I’m not spending 40 dollars on a Metroid imitation

Why is Brazil so expensive when it comes to video games/consoles?

in short: Socialist taxes implemented in the last half of a century - which generally only revert in corruption.
In latin america, the relevant market for VG's is not official but made by illegal importation in an attempt to escape these insane fees.

edit: The drama with Sony is that - apparently for no reason - they are adding extra fees!

Yes because internet on Brazil is the best of the world.
I know that there are many parts of Brazil that doesn't have access to acceptable internet (some don't even have access to treated water... It is an developing country after all with many issues), but... For those who have any Vivo or Claro(Net) internet with at least 50 mbps, Game Pass is great option, specially considering how much it cost. For the price of one Demon's Souls or Returnal game, a gamer gets so many games, it's kinda no-brainer for anyone that wants to save money.

Argentina is the cheapest country on Xbox Store and Steam.

Yes because internet on Brazil is the best of the world.
It's shit, but it has gotten way better over the years and brazilians are the biggest time spenders on the internet, we used to download 4-5GB games back in 06-07 with a 256kbps connection. Gamepass is no hurdle as you download games.

Sounds like an issue with regional taxes etc...

Sony had a similar issue with the PS4

here's the article...sounds like a pain

Bullshit from Sony, back when the dollar was cheap people were importing stuff all round because it was cheaper than buying from stores and even paying the taxes were still cheaper if you got taxed, the PS4 was sold in the grey market for like 2.5k reais at the launch, the locally built Xbox One was the same price of even lower because Microsoft stuff always were sold at lower price than the MSRP here.

Sony always treat us like dogshit when it comes to a new console, i remember that back in 09 when they came in they brought ps2, 3 and their games for much more than even your average expensive store was selling for, Microsoft is the only one who ever cared about us after the downfall of SEGA-Tectoy. The 4K price on the PS4 was such a joke that most people bought the Xbox on the first year, then they released the PS4 Pro as a fully imported system for the same price, but the Xbox One X also came in for 4K price and it was also imported, 100 dollars more expensive worldwide and at this point we had much higher dollar conversion rate. New releases on Xbox Store with exception of AAA companies enforcing price parity are cheaper.

Stop buying games, and the prices will drop. It's simple economics. Expecting corporations to ignore the basic tenets of economics, out of sheer good will, is foolhardy.

You think something is too expensive?

Then you could either start a whiny campaign to change that or... Just not buy it.
Radical, isn't it? Voting with your wallet....

It is purely SONY's greed. I think most people outside US can relate to this. To you guys, a 5 dollar increase is nothing, but the impact it takes in the rest of the world for sh*t ass companies pricing like SONY is gigantic. Like, prices get really prohibitive.

They are even worse than Nintendo rn in some countries, who would've thought? They even readjusted the prices on the ps3 store. THE F* PS3 STORE. Dude...

I am also mad that while games in the us went up to 70, here in germany they went up to 80€. 70€ converted to dollars was already more than 70$.

These companies don't give a shit about regional pricing. And never have.

Isn't like evertyhing more expensive in Brazil because of your import policies? Also a lot of people create accounts in onther countries in order to get digital games cheaper, maybe that's what they are trying to tackle. A lot of Gamepass subscribers do it through a Brazilian account because it's a lot cheaper than in Europe. Actually just checked, and R$ 99,50 is 16,5 euro which is actually less than we pay in Europe for those games (19,99), they are just adjusting prices.
How do you important something digital?

Can relate.
Ps4/5 and Switch do easily have the most expensive software here too (Chile).

On PC every major store offers regional pricing (Sony games included) and on Xbox you've got Gamepass.

Once you add the fluctuation in exchange rate over the past 10 years Ps5 games are now literally twice as expensive as early PS4 games.

Sony is even scalping their own console here. Ps5 is $150 mor expensive than the Series X for no real reason.
They are selling the Ps5 for $730 before tax (which comes to around $900 after tax). Not scalpers or retail stores taking advantage, that's the official Sony price

I’m Portuguese from Portugal! Not saying Sony is not to blame but Brazilians should be angry at their government who puts really huge taxes on “luxury” goods, meaning almost everything.

also in Europe the conversion sucks not for us gamers but as buyers, for example, here in Portugal, apple is selling their 1200 dollars iMac at 1400 euros!

all of this is messed up and is not just one company doing it!

Brazil taxes everything that is views as luxury! If you have a factory in Brazil they ease the taxes. Microsoft has infrastructure there, Sony also had to build a factory so that PS4 were cheaper there. Taxes agreements also go into software.

I know it sounds ridiculous but that’s how things are there. My aunt kept telling me how things there are just absurd, she’s Brazilian.

I live here in Brazil. Even in places like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, is not good internet overall. So, always online never work here.

Everything here sucks. Games price, internet, and mainly Nintendo 'non existence'. I can't even believe how can someone be a brazillian and a Nitendo fanboy at the same time, but anw.

It's shit, but...

Is trash dude. No way you guys get this or try to spin. The speed is not good, the quality is even worst. I worked at Embratel (now Embratel&Claro) and I know very well the internet here is a living hell.

Just for you get an ideia, last weekend Claro was in maintaince here in my place, so saturday and sunday without internet in the whole block. Just 4G for emergency.

Thats why 'always online' games never work on countries like Brazil.

That would probably backfire here. Sony is likely to abandon Brazilian market altogether if it is not profitable enough. They've already done it with their other departments. Playstation is the only one remaining.

Yes, Brazilian laws and government sucks... But, the thread is more about the difference between Microsoft and Sony prices in Brazil.

I am lucky, I always lived in downtown and close to a Vivo office, so the internet was never an issue. But yeah... Some of my friends still don't have access to fiber, even though they live in big cities.

But even though, game pass doesn't need always on, you can download the games and play offline (as long as the console is activated on the account)... So even if the service is unstable, you can use it. I have a friend that has to use 4g... He has a vivo box, because there's nothing else that works at his home and he can still use game pass. It does takesa day or two to download a game... But what else he can do.

Again, I am not saying that is perfect... But it's an option.

Now Nintendo fans In Brazil...

Microsoft had a term long agreement with the government for tax relaxation. I remember watching about that some years ago on the Brazilian channel. Also Sony have to build a factory there to cheapen the consoles but they closed it. Could be related to that not sure.

Yes, digital is insane...
At least here in Sweden and Finland you can get physical copies at the usual last gen PS4 prices.
Digital:
veaI8li.png
849kr is ~100$

Physical is 499kr which is 350kr cheaper.
350kr is ~40$

Yeah it sucks. Especially since I refuse to buy physical as long as I still need the disc to start an already installed game.

It’s not much different on Xbox though:

TCl4TFl.png

Sony has kinda showed that 800kr is okay now. Microsoft still sell their standard editions for 649kr but the real deal right now is Gamepass and I’m using that to the fullest; Prepaid until 2024 at ~50kr/month. This is where I do most of my gaming. PC and Xbox. Then I use PS5 for exclusives only.

Yeah, but then the solution is just to add up number and not adjusting the profit margin to reach more people? I mean, Sony and games in general are not regarded as Apple products that can cost whatever Apple wants and people still buy it. I believe this is just Sony being greed but in the long term it might hurt the company there. People often forget, but Brazil is among the biggest markets for gamming nowadays...

Think about it for a second there, why are you worried about Sony? They raise the prices, the people either keep buying or they don't. Do you know how this whole thing works? A company determines the price their customers are willing to pay and then adjust. Maybe the problem here isn't that Sony is going to hurt itself, LOL, maybe it is that they have realized people will pay.

It's not about number of players, it's about how much revenue they generate. All this faux concern is just that, a bunch of bullshit. You say they are not like Apple, but the market says they are selling faster than ever.

I don't get all this rage... Are you a Sony shareholder or whatever? We are talking about a single (digital) game costing almost half of the country minimum wage. It isn't very difficult to see people in such countries migrating to a different platform in the long term just because it is cheaper and they can afford more games.

Yeah its trash, but brazilians can stand over it because you can download the games and as I said, we used to spend days downloading stuff, my internet was 2mbps and only because the Vivo refused to raise the speed, got rid of it with a 50mbps one from Tim

To some extent is reasonable, because jumping between ecosystems is hard, specially on these digital first platforms. But if this tendency continues, playstation sales will suffer for sure.
Most people is not dumb to be paying the same game 10/15 times for no reason.

No rage, I’m legit saying that if price becomes out of reach for certain people and they migrate to another platform, that in itself is an outcome that is predictable and factored into the decision of raising price.

What you don’t seem to understand is that it is ok for people to migrate. It’s not difficult for you to see and it’s not difficult for anybody to see.

You talked about Apple and it’s the same thing here, Apple won’t drop their prices just so everyone can afford one of their products. They want to hit a certain segment of the market and serve them.

The whole concern thing is just tiresome. Analyzing what’s happening from the POV that people who are making the decisions are straight up dumb? Maybe they aren’t the dumb ones.

Sony has made it very clear that it wants PS5 to be seen as a premium product, its games as premium entertainment.

Brazil is the 12th market, and most of it is mobile, consoles are 29%. Government imposes a lot of taxes on it, and some companies will take a hit and others won’t.

Looking at it objectively, Brazilian gamers should be kicking a shit storm at the governments door instead of taking private companies to task. Nintendo was out of that market for years, not so long ago.

Don’t complain that the product you don’t want is cheaper than the one you want, it’s an absurd complaint.

Brazilians pay half of what the rest of the world pays for games and are still complaining? Their economy is shit, but the prices are already adjusted to take that in account. In Europe we already play more than what americans pay. Brazil pays 39 US dolars for a brand new game, while the other pay double that. I'm sorry but they are getting crazier by the day.
