Twice as much as nothing at all. Is still nothing at all.

In all seriousness though are the hardware sales data accurate?

As from what I can recall they have sometimes been only selling dozens of these in a week?

12,000 units, hell yeah. That shit needs some spin. What is happening? How come people believe all this nonsense good spin shit? They don't have nothing but bc to show and it has been around for half a year. Just like last gen.
You just be misremembering the first half of the Xbox One.

Still shit and nothing to write home about. You don't agree? How painful.
The fact Xbox One had people questioning where Sony's games were, and it was outpacing the 360 even in European countries, did happen whether you didn't like the console or not.

Looking back it's seems silky but that's what happened.

That is funny and how people without any knowledge react when they don't know any better.

"Japan is currently the fastest growing market for Xbox".

Seriously? From 2 consoles sold a week to 50, so that's a 2,500% growth right there! If I don't stop shaking my head blood may start fizzing out my ears.

If you read the news, you wouldn't have said that.
Microsoft is busy doing XSX blades for their xcloud. Hence why their is low drop of their hardwares, compared to the Playstation. Their goal is to have XSX on their cloud data center for their Xcloud.

And for series S, most of Playstation users want it for gamepass. This will boost the demand for series. Also series S is easy to make unlike series X.
The SS is never gonna outsell the SX. It's too weak. Even children in playgrounds know the difference. 4K tv's are the norm. The SS just doesn't cut it

4k is for forum kids. People outside of forums don't care about it.

You are still looking down on series S. The primary target is college kids, parents during holidays. And people who have other consoles as their primary console. That is why it will outsold the series X.

Lol, well yeah - that's literally how corporations spin this stuff. Xbox's only chance for success in Japan is that xCloud catches on, and people play it on their mobiles. Xbox consoles establishing a foothold in Japan is a pipe dream.

Unfortunately for Microsoft, Japan publishes it numbers weekly. Difficult for P.R to put its vague percentages to the faithful.

There's no chance and there's no success to have for Xbox in Japan. Even for PlayStation is an uphill battle there.

I wouldn't discount xCloud - allowing every next-gen console game to be played on your smart phone is a hell of a proposition for a market infatuated with portable devices.

For a company that goes out of their way to hide sales numbers when behind the competition, you'd think they would avoid drawing attention toward their sales numbers in Japan.
Yes, especially when there are lunatics like me out there that will spend ages pasting in the sales for weeks into every comment response on a Youtube video.

im not sure Japanese people want to be streaming games... yes it has a great market for mobile but its with mobile native games not streaming console grade games

Isn’t streaming on Switch a fairly big deal there? At least, compared to the west.

Dude, it's Japan. Nothing to do there. Xcloud is doubtful to even be a thing in USA...
You haven't really added much to the discussion. xCloud is doubtful because streaming games hasn't really been feasible - its on Microsoft to make it work. Will they? "Dude, it's Japan" isn't an answer.

"fastest growing" but they probably wouldn't want to discuss the actual numbers. Pretty easy to grow from close to zero.

On a constructive note, I think Microsoft would do well to somehow change the Xbox branding completely in Japan. People (like me) who live in Japan will note how Samsung has removed pretty much all mention of "Samsung" on/with its Galaxy smartphones. It's just "Galaxy".

Of course people are not idiots and they still know it's Samsung, but I wonder if Microsoft could do some sort of tie-up (if not just for the sake of branding) with a Japanese company here.

You'll be waiting forever for that to happen

And yes, they don't ship any units at all to the region, lol

Which doesn't mean people there don't buy their games on PC, don't subscribe to GP, don't use xCloud etc. which is exactly what Spencer pointed out. I guess some people here didn't went further than just reading the thread title before they jumped into comment section...

Yes they do, but talking about console being popular, when we have the actual numbers is disgenerous.
It's really not much at all. And we know they could sell more, if they would just ship more.

Home consoles market is dead in Japan, there's just a tiny number they can reach no matter how many units they'll ship. I'm surprised Sony and MS bother at all, they should've skip it altogether and send all those units to EU/US where the demand is through the roof and people do spend a lot of time (and money) on those consoles.

No it's not. It wasn't until these Zen 2's where the PC front was having great success with them at native framerates and boosted 60fps+, ironically. The Tempest core is very SPU-like as well.
PC emulator can't emulate most of the main PS3 games and won't during many years because of technology limitations.

The article says they sell out same day. Seems to allottment issues as well.
All 4 consoles sold the same day? Wow, spectacular!

I agree the primary target of Series S are parents that knows nothing about the game machines to give gift to their children.
But that was a marketing in the past when these children were non-informed enough about consoles.
I don't believe that is the case today... most children will have time to explain to their parentes which machines they really wants.

Most if not all college kids knows today the difference between Xbox machines.

Well, isn't that the very definition of phenomenal growth from the previous gen where they sold like, 30 consoles a month? :D
Xbox One sold better in Japan than Series combined.
360 sold way way way better in Japan than all others Xbox combined.

I need to check origna Xbox data but in terms of sales Series is probably one if not the the worst selling Xbox in Japan... maybe even lower the original Xbox.

It's not technology limitations, it's trying to get the code to run more elegantly due to the differences in code/design to x86 rather than all out brute forcing in 5 years time. The current Zen 2's have shown great success with little to no optimizations. Already better framerates over the base consoles. Sony would surely be able to get it done investing in software emulation on PS5 or PS5Pro blades, rather than trying to replace the PS3 blades cost wise.

Why? You're clearly not interested in discussing the topic.
Discussing why Xcloud won't ever be even marginally successful in Japan, where Xbox has never been a thing and in a market that demonstrably has dwindled its interest in anything except casual mobile gaming? Yeah, no interest in discussing that. The PlayStation brand is losing market share by the minute over there and you think Japanese gamers will love to carry around an Xbox controller and adapter for their phones to play games from a stream service they have to subscribe to? L O L.

I doubt they argue with their parents about the price point. Its why parents will pick it. 300$ device vz 500$ device is a no brainer for the parents.

And college kids have budget to go. They aren't picky for 4k or anything. As long as they have next gen device which is cheap entry. Those who can afford series x are rich college kids. Most of other kids, wont buy it.

Its why the switch sold alot. Handle held, and at 300$ price point, despite the games being expensive, the hardware was cheap entry.
