Borderlands 3 removing Cross-Play for Playstation Platforms

That's bad, no way around it. Could be temporary, could be caused by the dev/publisher, but most likely Sony is the reason here.

People talking about shit about Sony like they're greedy ones. Just same random ignorant (in purpose or not? who knows) haters as usual..

Sure meanwhile Sony are using their earning money to release great games , also let's act like it's not MS that been make you pay online to play free to play and that also tried to sell you Xbox Gold for 120$, double the original price, and i'll pass.

If Person A has Borderlands 3 on Xbox, and Person B has Borderlands 3 on PlayStation they cannot play together.

The copies are already sold, and they already have their consoles.

If they can play together, it's more likely they will be inclined to spend money buying DLC packs to continue playing together. That will drive revenue for Sony that could be lost otherwise.

What's more likely - that one person convinces the other to drop an extra $500+ on another copy+console to play together, or easily buying a $30 season pass?

Im sure if its gonna lose them lots of potential money they will change it. Im not sayings its good or bad, just tactics.

Otherwise I think they dont want to help out the competition having more people to play with.

Imagine the users on the competing console got frustarted not having enough people to play games with online, they would soon think about migrating to Playstation if thats there thing.

Im pretty sure MS wouldnt be willing to do crossplay if Sony during the start of the PS3 days wanted to... doesn't make business sense to help the competition

Wait is this real? In what world does Sony deserve a cut of anything just because a developer enables cross play? 4theplayers my ass.

So long as you aren't paying, why do you care about the business aspects?

Also, if Sony are taking a 30% cut of nothing, what'd be in it for them either way?

That we know of, Sony is the only company that charges publishers for enabling cross play
This is untrue. Sony expects to receive payments if there are purchases made outside their ecosystem that expect to be used in their ecosystem. For example, if a Fortnite player primarily plays on PS4 but goes on PC and buys a few skins and then goes back to playing on PS4, Sony has missed out on the sales while being the primary ecosystem for that player. They expect to receive some of that money from the PC ecosystem. MS and PC don't have these concerns because they aren't a large part of the Fortnite community like Sony is. As the leader, Sony is the one who risks losing income from allowing anybody to play anywhere and share ecosystems, including microtransaction products that are cross-platform.

If you have a friend who has Borderlands 3 but not on the PlayStation, now you can't play with them.

I know for some people having friends IRL is an alien concept though.
Does anyone know if you can play crossplay between IOS and Android games??

Hopefully it is and I may not have read it 100% correctly I don't know if it's actually Sony that doesn't want this or the publisher?
The punisher.

2 of my friend have the game on ps4
i have it on pc
i played solo and we wanted to play the dlc the three of us (tbh i pushed a little for it)
i will not buy the game , the dlc and PS+,it won't happen.
here sony will not see the money of two MTX ...
You won’t buy the MTX on PlayStation so whatever... it won’t be missed.

There are bigger reasons besides the platform warring for this. It should come as no surprise to see people dismissing this without really understanding the underlying reasons.

I have both the game on PS4 and PC. The best thing about the console version is really the split screen. That's the only reason I bought it. Get along.

I suppose certain idiots only think that one company charges to play online eh?
Maybe you should ask the shareholders of each company if money is all that matters?
Dumb post

What? yes, ofc money is all the matters you fool and ofc anyone who charges players in 2021 to play online is a masterclass swindler. While not many have the "luxury" of playing on PC I understand some have no choice. Still, the less wallets they take from the consumer the less likely they drop dumb shit like that but that will never happen because looking all the income from mtx for example, the world is full of idiots. Now stop being a corpo rat.

Your personal benefits from one or the other don't change the simple fact that both issues boil down to:

1) a platform holder;
2) a requirement that if you want to benefit from what it has, then you must pay for it.
Even in the event servers are P2P or privately owned and not using Sony's? What else is the 30% store cut and PS+ fees going towards then? It's ridiculous that without cross purchasing Sony would put in any sort of additional requirements or royalties. It's greed, plain and simple.

Most likely Borderlands refused to pay Sony's extortion fees.
The theory is Sony needs to protect their walled garden or else PS gamers might bail ship to other platforms.

That doesn't even make sense.

If PS is such a great platform with tons of people playing, it's better to open it up, and show off to the world how great PS online gaming is so you can scoop up Nintendo, MS and PC gamers into the PS ecosystem making it even bigger.

The fact they protect means they are afraid and think have more to lose than to gain. No confidence.

Why are you getting upset for? You wrote a dumb post as all three consoles charge for online play but you tried to focus that just on Sony.
I don't understand why your bothered if people are paying to play online? Calling them idiots doesn't make you some genius ya know. Now stop crying....

Crap like this really bugs me. If I didn't have a PS4 library and 3 years of ps+ built up I think I'd have gone Xbox this time. Actually, I know I would have. If demon souls hadn't been a launch title I'd have shifted.

Nowhere in my post did I specify Sony. You wrote a dumb reply and I gave you more details. Now fuck off.

I don't see why it's good news. At this point the more people you can play this game with the better? Sony does really take their heels in about cross play for whatever reason.
They have more games with cross-play than Microsoft and Nintendo. There's a keyword to this tweet. They're required to cut the cross-play and it could just be temp. There's definitely something going on with a toss up of who's to blame for whatever reason. But Randy and 2K aren't always honest. Let's not forget the Alien fiasco years ago.

here you go

But they said SONY required them to cut it. It's more than likely not from this.

I didn't say that it wasn't understandable why Sony as a company does it especially in the case of Fortnite and give the most cross-platform have dlc/mtx, the distinction between cross-platform play and cross-platform revenue is largely irrelevant. If there was a cross-platform game that had no DLC/MTX and Sony still blocked that, it's even worse. Also I as a consumer don't care if Sony is getting paid if I want to play with my friends on the PS5 when I am on a PC.

Of course its about the money. Everything these companies do is about the money. But I disagree on it being ridiculous. It's just smart business, as proven by Epic cutting a deal with Sony on this issue.

Depends on the game. When Fortnite was still on iOS you could. And I believe CoD and PuBG mobile don‘t discriminate based on OS.
So let's say I play Cod or PubG and I have both Android phone and Ipad. I start playing on Ipad create an account and then I want to carry on playing on Android phone. Will my game carry over to the Android device?
Let's say it does and I purchase £50 worth of skins and stuff. I then return to play on Ipad will those skins and stuff carry over and would Apple want a cut?

Excellent.

They heard me. F**k crossplay.

There is only PlayStation!

With CoD it uses Facebook or CoD to handle accounts so they're platform agnostic. I started playing on iOS and play now on Android with the same account.

I think it's the publisher not willing to pay Sony for their revenue share thing exposed too us during the epic v apple thing. I havn't got through the whole video yet but that what it seems to be.

You can add Nintendo or Microsoft or any company to the thread title and my post would remain and still remains valid. It does not matter which, they're all idiots. Your reply on the other hand sounds like you're sucking Jim's dick. Carry on then.

I mean would the purchases carry over to another platform? I'm surprised Apple would allow this? They went ballistic when Epic tried that lol

Putting the death grip on users will just lead to more of them leaving. Games missing features on one console is never a good look.

Wonder how this with effect Destiny 2 with there cross play stuff next year.
Wonder if Phil is going to be having informal conversation with Bungie to ask them to kick up a fuss

I think Sony is right to do and charge whatever it wants. It is their own closed platform. On the other hand, it also sounds a bit silly since x-play would give some life support to mp based games that aren’t that popular. Perhaps, in the end, Sony would still make a profit by allowing x-play.
