How would you design RE9?

Since now RE is introducing werewolves and vampires i guess the next logical step is Chris and Leon go to space and they fight aliens greys and reptilians. They both are chased by predator. And the game is designed for PS VR2.
Yeah. Not necessarily going to space but Leon (or whoever) goes to this location where are these weird mutilations (chupacabras) and of course a secret lab underground where Aliens have been making genetic experiments. the same old RE structure.

Picture this: raccoon city, 1999 a deadly virus is released, chaos, zombies. You fight to survive but you are bitten by a zombie! You die and mutate, you become an zombie with telepathic powers .

The goal of the game? Eat humans to survive, use your less capable zombie brothers as shields against humans....control the city

Am I being serious? No idea, would anyone you play that game?

Imagine if they switched it to turn-based combat.
Somewhat like Parasite Eve? That is one of my favorite games of all time, so I'm not complaining. Shame they don't have the juevos to try it though.

For me I'd want some type of third person for sure, my favorite is RE2Make but ultra pre-rendered could be very neat, I have a soft spot for the oldies and even replaying the RE1 remake was a great experience, I'd just love to see what they could do with modern tech and techniques.
- Playable characters, perhaps a create a character with a ton of options.
- What I had dreamed of as a kid obsessed with RE back in the 90's and early 2k's dreaming of the power of next-gen. An open sandbox survival. Instead of the teeny-tiny spaces we got to explore in 2 and 3, I'd love the ability to struggle to survive across a whole city and its outskirts. If its too big release expansions, single player or coop. A lot of replayability thanks to optional routes, more focused like say you opted to fix a truck and smash a barrier if you had the skills or limited space, or climb across rooftops and alleyways. Opting to raid houses and gunstores, outside of town maybe find some prepper's stash before heading to town etc.
- I'd rather not have a stalker apart from enemies in areas, that make sense. I'd love to see the zombie dogs hunt for us, maybe wolves. Licker's set traps, hunters are crazy fast and deadly. Bring back the mutants! Moths, snakes, sharks, the works.
- Let the players dictate their experience. If they want an action packed experience let them try to arm themselves and use the environment, but dangerous. Or let them try a more stealthy approach, maybe even have speech skills to convince survivors to cooperate and work together.
- Unlockables, outfits, weapons, gear, maybe a slice of metroidvania that let's us access previously locked areas.
- Drivable vehicles but easily noticed by monsters. Limited resources could make this difficult and potentially fun for some, others might prefer another approach.
- Gore that impacts gameplay. Dismemberment that can slow and drop foes, useful for limited ammo or melee weapons. Blind a foe, severe limbs, etc.
- As mentioned, return to great music. Its surprising just how good the old installments music was, memorable and emotional.

Just wishing here. I'd be content with a greatly expanded RE2make with separate routes and endings, along with a proper mercs mode. Third person is a must for me.

If Chris doesn't die in RE8. I would have RE9 start out as Chris and a rookie BSAA guy, relatively green, unexperienced. Mission seems routine but goes completely haywire and Chris gets brutally killed a few hours into the game.

You then play as the rookie and it's just a super intense survival horror experience. Since the mission seemed so routine neither was overly prepared. Back up isn't available. It's up to you to figure out just WTF is going on and escape.
Resident Evil is not big on story. They haven't made a simple twist like that in 20 years ir I remember correctly. Or has any RE character died?

I'd set in an Asian country like the Philippines and having character travel between islands with different monster types on several islands.

No 1st person.
None of the bad Rob Zombie trash aesthetics of RE7.
None of the bad RE4 knockoff aesthetics of RE8.

I don't understand why we can't have RE games that are more similar to the CG movies. They have a more authentic RE feel than the damn games gave.

RE9 will be FPS, deal with it. Its a follow up trilogy (7,8,9) and im pretty sure they will never go back to third person. RE2R sold amazingly because its a great classic of a game. RE3R not so much meaning no, people dont care if its third of first person.

I would make re9 like re4 only prettier and more QoL features.
And maybe some craziness of re6 sprinkled here and there.

I love the faster paced action of those games.
Fight me. 😎🤪🤠

Hey GAF. I am wondering how you would design RE9. For me, I'd want something that respects the series legacy. I'd love it if there was options for third person and even more so, fixed cameras as options in addition to the first person default perspective. Memorable music is something I also miss from previous REs that I haven't really noticed much in the more recent REs. I'd also like minigames that unlock after the main game to give the players something to do after the game's beaten once. Bring back the core characters from the franchise's earlier days. Stop trying so hard to bring in new fans of the series...make an original IP if you want new fans.
I don't agree with you sorry. RE 7 was a bringing it back to its origins. RE was originally planned to be in 1st person but the Saturn and PS hardware wasn't up to it.
RE 7 brings back the enclosed and creepy setting of the 1st and also brings back the puzzle solving. It was like a reimagining of the 1st game only with next gen graphics and like how RE2 opened up the environment RE 8 is just following like that

I love the direction Capcom is going with RE at the moment. They've got a great balance with remakes and making them more action based and keeping the 3rd person view and their the main series when the team are keeping the 1st person view and given years to make the game.

So depressing that so many are willing to write off a game, that's not out and just off a demo. Still, this is the Youtube gen of gamers I guess :(

Keep it first person

Make it open world that takes place in a huge country with different cities and natural environments. Make it the biggest open world game of all time. At least a few million square miles.

Make the cities realistic. I want to be able to explore every single building possible.

Destruction - I want to be able to topple skyscrapers on top of hordes of enemies.

Add vehicles like cars, motorbikes, tanks and fighter jets.

Hordes of fast zombies that can reach group sizes of tens of thousands.

There. The perfect RE game.

Go back to its roots. Static cameras with REmake controls (not tank), a puzzle mansion/industrial building or something of that nature, which branches out to other areas nearby like sewer, swamp, city streets, neighborhoods, creepy church, clock tower (!!!), etc...

Given another chance
Hopefully abandon last gen and design the engine around today’s desktop class CPUs. Jaguar don’t cut it no more.

the virus or whatever is called has been cured and all of our protagonists have to deal with the normality of every day life.

I like the first person view, I'd just like a stronger focus on real terror/horror elements. I beat 8 this morning and I kinda walked away feeling like its in between horror and dark fantasy more than anything.

While playing the game in front of my best friend this morning he said "Man this feels like some Van Helsing shxt with a corny lead character" lmao

Would like it to return to third person and make it more tense & atmospheric.

But to be honest I am more fascinated in how they are going to shoehorn IX into the games subtitle.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
RE4-6 were more action and those blew people away, the big thing about Resident Evil games is movement, first person perspective was beloved by Bioshock, Fear, Amnesia etc. fans so Capcom took it and elevated it to a whole new level with VR.

Not really a change to gameplay as I would be happy with 3rd or 1st person so long as we can stop with these bullshit giant boss monsters the size of dragons with the human host attached to it.. with the old Resident Evil's mutations felt natural but ever since Resident evil 4 we have these giant boss fights who gain huge amounts of biomass in seconds.... the old monsters felt horrifying because they where essentially warped human being and if something did turn large it tended to slowly grow over the course of the game as you battled it several times. Now though it's like every human enemy can turn into a T-Rex on a whim... STOP DOING THIS CAPCOM ITS SHIT AND LOOKS STUPID.

My guess for RE IX is a game inspired by REmake 2 and The Last of Us, third person, references plot points from 8. Chris and Leon appear, the first person games are awesome but i think they will change again this gen to mix things up, i really wanted a sequel to REVII and i got it so Capcom can do whatever they want next:third person, action, VR, anything, i trust it will be quality because Capcom has me impressed me lately. 👍

No doubt OUTRAGE will be good too 🧟‍♂️

RE has successfully been so many things at this point that wishing for this or that seems tone deaf. They clearly know what they're doing, even if it doesn't exactly pleases old fans anymore.

Loves his juicy stink trail scent
While I prefer and love the RE2 Remake approach, we all know Capcom is going to do another first person game to push farther or close out Ethans story.

I won't list spoilers for RE8, but it can definitely continue.

Capcom has gotten the thumbs up in sales and reviews that first person is the way to go. So expect RE9 to do that.

I would love the next RE game to be either RE4 Remake or Code Veronica Remake from the ground up like RE2 and RE3 remake.

As for RE9 I would love the atmosphere , pacing, world building, visuals , story etc of a RE8 but with RE2 remake gameplay. More than one character, multiple scenarios, and let me play as Leon.

You want an action game. Just play Crackdown or the latest Saint Rows.

Persistent corpses would add massively to the atmosphere. In a game that always features some back tracking, having a mound of dead zombies and blood splats from a hectic shoot out that you had a few hours earlier in the game would be very immersive.

I doubt RE9 would be able to go for fully destructible environments but they could push harder for bullet holes in walls to persist, and have better hit detection so that zombies could be dismembered with gunfire or knife slashes.

Other than that keep doing what they're doing. Capcom have got it right so far.

Third Person.
Over the top characters.
Cheesy Dialogue.
Zombies.

Without all of the above you don't have a resident evil game.

As long as they keep it FIRST PERSON forever, all is good in the world. The best perspective to use. I also love the crying of console focused gamers who are used to looking at an avatar in all their games due to lack of genre variety that was traditional in console space. The reactions to cyberpunk being first person only were some of the most delicious possible.

Make it third person. That's it, I am ok with whatever Capcom decides to do, but the series needs to go back to third person.
