Returnal Review Thread (PS5)

Did you get Demons souls half price? How about Miles?

In fact have you purchased a PS5 exclusive at any discount 6 months after release of the console?

Good luck with half price on returnal next month - people already hyping it hard.
miles was $50 at launch and i jumped all over that. I also bought demons souls at full price since i wanted some next gen exclusive to play and i'm a huge souls fan. Trust me i didnt feel good about it but i was willing to pay it for that game.

no I agree with you returnal half priced next month may be a bit of a stretch. i do imagine within 3 months it will be though and i'll grab it then.

Yes 2K was 1st and 2K has been the most vocal.
I am not happy about this trend but it is where the industry is heading.
It's not about protecting Sony but they didn't start this so come correct.
This price will be the norm on these consoles.
Get use to it or stay on PC and miss out.

Salty is crying about the price and pointing the finger at the wrong party.
Wait a month like you said but know you will still pay $70.

FYI
I paid over $70 in the 90's for SNES/Genesis games.

You know davidjaffe davidjaffe gave some insight a few days ago on one of this shows.

He talked about twisted metal (2 I think but maybe it was 3).

Anyway he said the game cost $850,000 to make and sold 2 million copies at $50 a piece.

Now that’s a return on investment.

Meanwhile games these days are running to hundreds of millions to make, sell maybe 5 to 10 million life - even at $60 the return multiples just aren’t the same.

And there we are $70 games. To be honest I don’t think AAA game development is comfortable or sustainable even at that price point. The cost of producing a flop is so high now.

Jaffe also said many times that returnal cost a lot. I hope these reviews hold up and it’s a big hit for Sony and Housemarque.

Not gonna happen in 3 months. Maybe a Christmas special. Otherwise it’ll be next year.

If it reviews well anyway which it seems to be.

Can anyone explain how's Digital Deluxe bonuses gonna work? It has two weapons listed, artifact and consumable. If each run starts basically from a scratch (and it is explained by plot), when will these bonuses be given?

Now that's a very critical question.

It's not that easy to calculate, since a large proportion of the costs is paid for by exclusivity rights.

In addition, many games nowadays generate a large part of their revenue through DLC, which often requires little effort or is removed from the main game.

In-game advertising is also used more often nowadays.

Do we really need a Halo killer when 343 killed it already?

Unfortunately, I don't think so. I think Sony will do everything they can to keep their games full price for many months or years, similar to Nintendo. I think we've been spoiled on quick AAA price drops on PS3 and PS4 and that it's coming to an end.

Demon's Souls is still $70. Miles Morales and Sackboy have not seen price drops either, and I don't think they will anytime soon.

Completely agree and I've been holding off on all of the above so I've been keeping an eye out

Half price? MAYBE if Sony is generous and has a E3 sale.

But I been waiting and waiting on Spider-Man MM/combo(way overpriced) to go on sale and it hasn't all this time.

Doom Gameplay Footage

On May 12th, 2016, Polygon uploaded a 30-minute video containing footage from the recently released reboot of the Doom video game series (shown below). In the video, the player is shown moving erratically and repeatedly missing targets while shooting various weapons. After many viewers left comments on the video pointing out the player's lack of first-person shooter experience, the comments and ratings were disabled for the video. That day, the video was mocked on the /r/gaming[3] and /r/KotakuInAction[4] subreddits.

On May 16th, Redditor Tac_Reso uploaded an animated GIF of two police officers in Family Guy wildly shooting while running titled "Polygon trying to play Doom" (shown below, left). In five days, the post gained over 860 votes (96% upvoted) and 120 comments on the /r/pcmasterrace[7] subreddit.

On May 18th, Markus Persson posted a tweet[6] mocking the Polygon video, which received more than 7,000 likes and 2,300 retweets in 72 hours. The following day, TotalBiscuit criticized Polygon's video production team for creating poor content (shown below, right).

Polygon hasn't reviewed DOOM yet and we dont even know if it'll be the same person playing it as it is reviewing The issue is far simpler. If you put a video out on Youtube to show a game, then you play it so badly that it makes the game look awful and impedes your progress to the point where people don't get to see much, then you ve made a bad video. You don't have to be a god at games to do this job, at all (case in point). You do at least have to exhibit a basic level of competence so you can actually showcase the game to a decent degree. Polygon's sin is making a shitty video and then thinking it would be ok to just upload it onto the internet as a good example of DoOM being played. If they can't make decent videos, they should probably just stick to writing. Well, first they'd have to learn how to get good at that.. Show less DOOM text font line

Got the deluxe digital version for my b-day

I was under the impression the ost was also included, along with 2 other suits that won’t do anything really in-game (aside from pop da booty) 😆

I'm not down for $70 single player experiences unless it's something I'm really interested in. But I'm also willing to wait a year or two for discounts.

Also, I'll probably take less chances in buying games at that price, but we'll let the market decide.

One a serious note I think she looks perfect as an astronaut. And she's no where near being called ugly. I think she's "decent" looking.

I don’t know that she’s ugly, but I find her face unpleasant to look at. I’m not one to complain about how games are making female characters less attractive, but the thought of looking at that face during cutscenes is a real drag for me.
