4k 30 fps cutscenes take up A LOT of space on the disk. ive been using shadowplay to record 1440p 60 fps footage on PC recently and a 5 minute file is 2GB. there is no way they have more than 5-10 minutes of CG cutscenes. i bet 90% of those cutscenes are realtime. Souped up yes, but realtime.
I think Demons Souls would qualify too...apart from being a remake the quality, on a technical level, is next gen quality.

Pretty different games tho, one is a puzzle solver, the other is basically a furry tps.
You must never have played an R&C game before. You run around and smash shit, or blow shit up. Collect gears. Upgrade your kit. Cause more mayhem. In between the weapon porn is platforming and story elements, but my personal favorite thing to do is blow shit up, and watch all the particle effect. This franchise might have the zaniest collection of weapons in gaming. Very rare to find a weapon that doesn't elicit a satisfied grin. If that's not your thing, then steer clear.

The new compression is for discrete game assets, not videos. Video compression already optimal since before this gen. So no risk of videos being favoured over real-time in that context, indeed the other way is now more attractive than ever.
with how good these devs have gotten with realtime cutscenes on the base PS4 (See below), it's almost pointless to waste disk space on prerendered cutscenes. Though I guess with the new compression systems in the PS5, they might be tempted to do so.
It's much cheaper for them to have them all in real time (saves time believe it or not), as well as adds to the immersion for when you have custom loadouts show up in the cutscenes.

And this isnt even its final form. This is native 4k 30 fps. So technically its only using 5 tflops to render a 1440p 30 fps image then using the rest of the gpu to render 2.2x more pixels. The UE5 demo used 10 tflops to do 30 fps at 1440p. Though apparently they can hit 60 fps now after some optimizations.
yeah man i agree. i always go back to halo 2 or MGS 2 when i see stuff like this. i don't want a halo game where i play as the arbiter or a MGS game where i play as anyone other than snake. I don't care that it's 2021 and it's not about having to play as a female made up character. i want to play as ratchet in clank in a game titled ratchet and clank lol. do a spin off like miles morales (fantastic game btw) and go make rivet and clank or something. I'm sure i'll still day one this, cause it looks fantastic. However, i'm just wanted an actual ratchet and clank game where you play as ratchet and clank only.
