So "critical response" for Days Gone and the OBIVIUS "let's rewrite The Last of Us 1 to be exactly like the way TLoU2 (and the tv show will obviously) retcon 1 events", yep that left such a good taste in the mouth.
Oh yes, about the Days Gone "critical response":

Works out for me, I really only enjoy there movie like 3rd person games (uncharted/last of us/god of war/spiderman ect..). Now how about making that Last of Us reremake shows up on PC. Jimmy my man make it happen.

I’m in a very tiny minority that didn’t think much of GOW. Not a bad game by any means ,it just wasn’t masterpiece material IMHO.

The others I enjoy however I got a bit bored of Ghosts and Horizon , borderline Ubisoft copy and paste at times.

As much as things are happening right now and what I’ve said above, I still think they have great talent there and imo outclassed Xbox last generation in first party. There were times I wished Xbox was a little more like Sony, 343 and Coalition doing something else for example.

I’ll still pick up a PS5 at some point.

TV, TV, TV...which is why they will also announce an exclusive title in collaboration with Remedy, which will be accompanied by some kind of movie/series. Days Gone or Bloodborne obviously don't fit in anymore, because they aren't cinematic enough and lack the characters/story that can be transformed into the movie world.
sure and how Demon Souls is cinematic?

Free weekends or something, I’ll have to look it up later, don’t have time right now.
No free weekend... GT5 is a game that you won't even play it before few days if you start to download it.
I don't remember any GT game having free weekend.

WTF is Sony doing.. Days Gone was fantastic , I enjoyed it more than Horizon Zero Dawn. Another TLOU ReeeeeeMaster. Breaking Japan Studios.. This is some next level tripping over your success.

The Phil Spencer Vulture is fly over head.

Its even worse because if these uhh "journalist" even played the game and had memory retention they'd have seen they come back to this in a later flashback where it's revealed it was an in joke between the two. It was like "wouldn't it be crazy if you said this at our wedding?" And then Sarah or whatever her name was laughs it off and you see when she said that it was like a "ha I took you up on your dare" thing.

The news is that Sony is completely losing the balance that made them the appealing option. They had several 'niche' titles to balance out Uncharted, Last of Us and Horizon.
Apart from Astro, Sony Japan didn't have any heavy hitters last gen. They were support staff and as far as we know they still are with Asobi still existing. Sony can still do collaborations and Yoshida is involved in getting indie games to PS5 so it's not like smaller games won't exist. Buying your way to success won't work when you can't manage your resources.

I'm guessing that last of us remake was decided on by that team because they worked on the last of us 2. It was material they were already familiar with.

Also, that Kojima rumor doesn't seem so far-fetched now huh?

Yeah, is not so crazy after all. Maybe Kojima is not happy as well? And can even explain why DS still don't receive a PS5 version.

Jim(or is Hulst the higher executive?)is lost and mad with power without guidance of our dearly departed MHK ...

On a serious note, I expect this thread to be revisited if a TLOU remake happens. While I don’t like JS, I won’t say this is 100% BS because he has been right before.

Nobody is asking for a Last of Us Remake. What a disappointment. So what is Bend Studio doing for the past 2 years.?

The most hated PlayStation games were Death Stranding and The Order 1886 btw. Those games had very little positive reception and sold very poorly (both games I am big fans of btw)

Days Gone had a universally positive user reception and sold more than both games combined.
I remember reception surrounding GT Sport being quite negative when it first launched too (mainly surrounding the lack of content and the always online stuff). Lowest metacritic scoring of all mainline GT titles too.

What's the point of making a PC port of Days Gone and simultaneously cancelling the sequel because you consider it an unviable franchise going forward? Why not port a franchise you do plan to keep supporting instead?

There is something here that doesn't add up at all. Either there is a lot of confusion internally at PlayStation and different branches and departments are doing their own things without an overall strategy, or the article is only telling half of the story.

I've read article around 4 times. One thing i really noticed is that article doesn't refer to Jim Ryan at all. It has nothing to do with him. That was before his current role in PlayStation

These 3 guys gets it.
Oh, I'm not blaming Jim Ryan for Days Gone 2 not getting the greenlight, I'm blaming Sony PlayStation as a whole because several executives must remain silent in order for something as stupid as Days Gone not getting a sequel to happen.

The ride me like your bike is actually an inside joke between the two. She refuses to be a typical biker girl (Shes a scientist), brings it up as a concern before they get married since they are from two different worlds and tells him she wont ever say something cheesy like ride me like your bike. Then at their wedding, does a call back to it. Its a surprisingly heartfelt moment that shows the lighter side of both the game and characters. It also shows shes come to accept him for who he is.

Anyone who played the game wouldve seen that cutscene and known not to make fun of that wedding scene. But nope, they did it anyway. What a bunch of fucking cunts.

Oh no, only Blockbusters ..... so bad.

Also the gaming audience are responsible for this, PS3 era had lots of experimentation ....... sales didnt play out.

Voted with your wallets and we got what we get.

Love the disconnect the audience believes it has from driving the industry and its trends.
You say this as if those people that like these type of games and bought these games are the ones at fault for not getting more of those games. But I guess this is my fault for not buying 250,000 copies of Gravity Rush 2.

If anything it's Sony's marketing department that failed most of them, in my opinion. There were way too many "oh when did that game come out" moments for me, and I follow gaming pretty damn closely.

Anyways, I wish I could find the interview, but I think it was either Kaz or Shuhei Yoshida that explained that sometimes they take a loss on individual games to provide depth of games on the platform - to kind of have a "something for everyone" approach and get people in to the Playstation ecosystem. Those days are long gone and that's what the Playstation brand meant to me.

I don’t know who asked for a TLOU 1 remaster. The version today plays and looks great already on ps5. If they want it on pc, let some other studio help convert it there. What people really want is a new expanded version of factions with TLOU 2 gameplay. Like it’s a no brainer... the ps5 needs a good MP Sony only game, and this it.

Even if she had said it just to say it that's fine... some of those people must have very sterile, if any, sexual relationships.

Yep, she straight up lied to score woke point on fucking twitter.

And what about no black freakers? Yeah if we forgot that oregon is mostly a white place and that the virus make the skin more white (like the game explain).

Can't charge 70 bucks for a remaster on ps5, let's remake the game and then get that full price. xD

Nintendo laughing in 60 dollar ports.

All of this is so dumb. We don't need a remake of a still perfectly fine looking and playable game. And ffs, as much as I love TLOU1+2 and Uncharted, I need a new Naughty Dog ip.

He’s such a fanny. Genuinely cringeworthy.

Company makes business decision. The end.
I mean, this is where I'm at too and I'm all for calling Sony out on their shit.

- Days Gone, while great, didn't exactly light the world on fire and they are pretty full up on Zombies with TLoU. Another one isn't really top priority,
- It makes perfect sense to have a small team play with the idea of a remake and then giving it back to the original studio after they get freed up.
- Japan Studio has done shit for years and their games barely sell... so I mean okay? They aren't really treating employees bad, just trying to shift resources to shit people actually do care about.

Same can be said about Nintendo. lots of games on Wii that didnt pan, same with Wii U. Comes down to how the game is marketed, and how much it took to make.

This is pretty pathetic. All of it.

Sony falls from some SJW journalists who unfairly criticized the game for not having black zombies, focusing on white male bikers and other insane things instead of actually playing the game themselves and looking at the fan feedback. It's a fantastic first game from a studio that typically only made portable games. Now that studio is a support studio???
No, they did support ND (decision taken before Herman was in charge, which also means DG2 pitch was rejected before Jimbo and Herman were in charge) but recently Herman greenlighted them to stop supporting ND and to make their own Bend Studio game instead.

The funny thing is that Death Stranding was a critical hit, but not a commercial hit so they didnt greenlight it either. So if the game wins the most GOTYs in 2019, it doesnt deserve a sequel either. Not sure wtf kinda metrics they are looking at.
We don't know if Death Stranding will get a sequel or not. We know the game was profitable in PS4 and the PC port is also profitable. Kojima will do whatever he wants after Death Stranding. A sequel, a brand new IP, with Sony, with MS or with any publisher he wants, or autopublishing it, etc.

Shocking that they are taking resources AWAY from like one of their 4 productive studios to do a remake that wouldve been done without their involvement. Who here will pick to have ND do a remake instead of a new game? It's shocking how poorly Sony is run right now. Herman Hurst is even worse than Jimbo. No common sense. This will delay every single Naughty Dog game on PS5.
According to the article TLOU remake was planned to be released packaged with TLOU2 PS5. That decision was made before Herman was in charge. The article says that when Herman saw the remake wasn't happy with it, thought they were investing too much on it and decided to reduce its budget and shifted its lead from the new San Diego studio (Visual Ars) to ND (who already were working on it but not as lead) to finish it.

This leaves Sony with like 5 AAA studios.
Naughty Dog
Santa Monica
Insomniac
Guerrilla Games
Sucker Punch
-All these studios are working on multiple games at the same time.
-According to the article Sony Bend is now working on their own game.
-Sony also has other studios like Polyphony or San Diego.
-Sony always had a strong 2nd party AAA output.

Now they are supposed to compete with Microsoft's 24 studios. Hilarious. The Sony as we had come to love it in the PS3 and PS4 era is gone.

- Zipper
- Evolution Studios
- Team ICO
- Japan Studios
- Sony Bend
- Incognito Studio
- PS All Stars studio
-Team Ico was one of the Japan Studio teams.
-Japan Studio continues, but now focused on Team Asobi, another of their teams.
-Sony Bend continues. After DG they did support a couple of ND projects and now are working on their own games
-All these other studios/teams were shut down because nobody bought their games, didn't manage to make a hit or at least be profitable during a ton of time.

3rd Party Studios making Sony IPs
- Ready At Dawn
- Quantic Dream
- KojiPro
- From Software

The Sony today is a shell of what it used to be.
-Quantic Dream mentioned they wanted to go multi but that weren't closing the doors to Sony, that they were open to continue working with Sony in the future.
-Sony published the most recent Kojipro game, which did use Sony's engine and was profitable. We don't know what Kojima will decide to do next, it will depend on him and not on Sony because any other publisher would be more than happy to work with him and will offer him whatever he wants.
-From Software's parent company recently made a deal with Sony, where they asked Sony to help them give their games a more global appeal and to use Sony channels to be more successful outside Japan. In exchange they gave 2% of the company to Sony.
-I loved RAD games including the The Order but that game got bad reviews and sales, and FB bought them.
-Sony now generates more revenue, sells more consoles, sells more games, sell more subscriptions and wins more GOTY awards than they or any other console platform holder ever did in gaming history. And they are in a growing trend, so will dominate even more in the near future

From the gameplay footage I've seen, and the vocal following its amassed, it definitely had potential for growth. Not being a run away hit from the get-go shouldn't take that opportunity from Sony bend to improve on it and expand it.
Agreed.
Btw, solely going by metacritic, I can imagine an accumulated 71 points aggregate score would likely partially fail to convince the management that a sequel is viable.
Disagree. Internally they knew where they'd lose points. They may have hoped for closer to 80, but they knew the issues long before release.

If Sony were sure Bend could deliver a Days Gone closer to the 80-85 mark, they'd be fully funding it. The issue isn't critics, it's that the critics noticed what management were already fully aware of.

I disagree with killing it off. There's clearly a great game somewhere in Days Gone and a sequel may well have allowed that to shine. The reason that isn't happening isn't because of poor reviews. It's because the poor reviews are accurate.
