You don't have pop-in, if object never loads.

Lord. I've been wanting to play this, but at this point I think I'll just wait til Summer/Fall 2021 and hope it's in a good state by the time the next-gen version update comes.

Feels like a massive leap forward and several steps back. I don't hold to the "not on old consoles". It can be done, as Witcher III on Switch attests. They just aren't focusing on them and it seems they never did, really.

Where have the ps4 Pro assets gone? No signs and zebra crossing markings and not lighting on the road is ridiculous!

Don't forget lights

Did i hear that right 40GB patch?? 😳this game is such a mess

Ths company just doesn't give a shit about their console players im starting to think Sony did the right thing by removing the game from their store
Yes and to be quiet honest, at least on XSX, it does not seems like it can really be seen why it is 80% of the game original size.

Last gen versions really were a mistake.
Nah, to the contrary. Given that both the consoles & GPU shortage of today it was even more obviously the right choice. What they should've done instead is scope it more appropriately in order to run well on those consoles too. Either that or perhaps there's more going on tech-wise which isn't optimal. Regardless I don't think not launching on last-gen would've been a realistic option, they simply have no other real income to sustain themselves at their size so this was necessary.

Well i wasnt talking financially, i meant from a gamer perspective.
Besides the ridiculous sales on PC alone probably coverd the cost of production and then some. In fact Didnt CDPR already say that?.

They must have realised years ago that this game would not work on ps4 and xbox one console generation.

They could have saved loads of time concentrating on ps5 and xbox series plus pc.

Saying all that I believe rockstar games would be able to make last generation get a acceptable performance to work.

Yeah, people.saying it can't be done on last gen consoles are dumb. We've seen way more impressive games than this, but I guess they have to believe it's the hardware's fault ant not their favorite developer.

They said the same thing when Halo Infinite was shown. Instead of blaming 343's incompetence, they started saying the hardware wasn't capable and all next gen games shouldn't try to go for 4K because that's what happens.

At some point CDPR is going to say "fuck it" and abandon any more work on the 8th gen machines. Even though the game's quality and performance is far below what gamers should expect for the money they paid.
I hope everyone lets CDPR hear about it when that happens. Loudly.

Why CDPR are so greedy? It has to be a fucking next-gen game, and a big one!
IMO - drop last gen and focus on next gen and PC.

Edit: Old consoles runs from HDD, in 2021. There is nothing they can do with load and seek times.
They should have dropped them, but they didn't so the bad PR is their fault. as DF said this game was announced years before we even knew about PS5 Series X, enough time to properly plan for PS4 and ONE specs, beautiful open world games have been mde on those consoles with far less bugs and playable framerate.

And considering CDPR are not some indie developer, Witcher 3 alone sold what 30 million copies? more? this is embarrasing 😳

I haven't played the game(not sure i even want to 🤭) , but i assume the gameplay systems aren't that demanding either, correct me if im wrong

I've been holding off until the game is fully fixed. Is it time to jump in or should I wait for another update?

Bought this for the Pro so I’m glad it’s stable 30.

Much prefer stable framerate over details and crowd density.

Now will I play it on patch 1.20? I dunno. I clocked in 100+ hours on the release patch so any improvement is gravy.

edit: missing geometry and not just crowds might make this a hard sell. I thought it was only npc density that was affected. Might keep my old patch if so.

Imagine 4 months after the launch you have the follow state:

Xbox One X: unplayable
Xbox One (S): unplayable
PS4: unplayable
PS4 Pro: well considered somehow playable

And we will see a lot defending CDPR here yet.

XSX runs ~GTA5 on X360, was that unplayable (to me yes, but not to the masses LOL)

Pro now is above that (minus memory leaks after long playing)

I know the argument about keeping it cross gen due to the user base numbers sound reasonable for stating CDPR were right to do so, but I wonder how the alternative reality would have played out.

Ditch the PS4 / XB1 versions 12months pre-launch, spend that focused time working on consoles that could handle it, elimante the headaches and lost hours working out how to get them working on nearly decade old CPUs, launch on PS5 / XSX / PC / Stadia only and...

In theory have a very good, graphically pretty open world exclusive next gen experience they could have kept at full price for far longer due to lack of next gen competition, launched at the higher price expected of PS5 games (rightly or wrongly), not been delisted from PSN and through to the extra design and dev load freed up, garnered better reviews

Admittedly not all of 2077's underlying problems would have got squished, but I wonder which strategy would have got them more money - sure they did great on launch, but it's fucked the product in at least the medium term and by the time the immediate problems are fixed, it'll be old news

I don't know what people expected. Same thing happened with Witcher 3....lots of patches over years for minimal gains in framerate....That team just does not know how to put out a bug free game on PC or a solid performing game on consoles....

The truth is PRO was always the better performer here, nothing has changed with the patch.

Didnt watch the video and just skimming people's posts.

So PS Pro runs better but they cut back on NPCs and lowered the settings? lol

I don't remember the old videos at launch but I though Pro already ran ok at 30 fps-ish? No?

To be fair, CDPR never said their optimization would result in everything being better. Some things better (frames), but some things worse (traffic) lol

I'm playing the game on a PS4 Pro with an SSD and the game looks better than ever before. Even streaming. Just check the ElAnalistadeBits comparison, he compares directly the new patch with the old one.

It wasnt downgraded at all, at least from playing on an SSD.

As Tom mentioned, with more pop in, you have better framerate. So playing on an SSD the performance tanks, but its worth it, imo. Everything being loaded instantly helps tremendously the presentation.

Havent seen "potato people" and lack of lighting and zebras on the road for the whole duration of my 90h playthrough.
On the contrary, I see "zebras" on the horizon even, even when driving with a fast car or bike

Those problems mentioned by Tom were there since Day 1. They were the reason for my upgrade to an SSD. And it solved all my problems.

They should’ve released on PC first then later on PS5 and SX when the game was ready. The hit to their reputation for the last-gen versions and removal from the PSN store and all the negative articles and bad reviews isn’t worth the money.

I knew it was only a matter of time before they start cutting back on the assets of the last gen versions. I feel like by the time they get them locked to 30 the last gen versions will look quite a bit different from next gen and PC versions.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
tbh, they chose the wrong time to launch the game, if they delay a year more they could just focus in the next gen player base and abandon the old gen

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
I have an Xbox Series X with this game installed on it? Aside from bugs has this increased resolution/performance for that version?

I know it still has a way to go, but I am curious if it is worth my time to start playing.

Its def playable on the PRO, but they have cut back the graphics so much, it looks barely a level, above 'LowSpecgamers' video lol.
Pro frame rate seems good enough. Sometimes it tanks, but seems to be ~27-30 fps most of the time.

The cut back on lighting is insane. The night driving scenes were almost pitch black like the car had no headlights and there were no street lights either. In patch 1.1 it was illuminated fine.

It’s fascinating how far behind this game was at release.

What? Dont you trust the gaming journalists? They were throwing 9 and 10 in the reviews, so the game must be in flawless, almost perfect state before even day one patch. It's not like that reviewers are lying pieces of sold out liars. Or is it?

I already beat the game on PS5 and outside the frequent crashes the game was decent. Then this patch came out, i saw it wanted to install a 40GB patch, quickly unistalled the game from the console. Its a virus, not a game. I will reinstall it again when the native PS5 comes out and see if its worth to finish the sidequests or forget about this mess.

They might have it playable on xbox one when they release the game of the year version early 2022.

DF is being too nice. The loss in visual quality is quite significant! That first mission after the life paths having no sunlight streaming from the windows, missing street lights that make roads look dark and flat, the abysmal pop-in. All to gain a couple of frames? Which still drops to mid-low 20s in combat? This engine is just not optimised for last gen machines, and nor it will ever be.

That's usually exactly what optimization means, finding wich settings give you tbe best performance/graphics ratio.

Thats what "optimization" means for consoles games. Those mythical optimizations that only console games have and PC games always have issues. At least thats the poem since times immemorial. This was always the case - lower the resolution, cut the details and gimp everything you can - the traditional console game since forever
