Yeah that would be my choice and presumably yours.

But when it comes business deals and what gets the best value - not so sure. Some things look weird from the outside but make good business sense. Look at the crying about the studios MS closed, losing bungie and sony closing various things including Japan Studio recently.

So in the case of San Diego - if Sony were to decide to ditch the MLB license, they’d get basically nothing. Del *.* and build from the ground up on a new thing.

But to sell MLB The Show with the team that made it, a license and with MS paying for it. Now that might be worth some money to someone - it’s an established franchise and can be purchased and profits made day one. They get to keep the key guys anyway but they sell the code base and the 2nd tier people who worked on it...

What’s the expression? Leave emotion at the door... it may not look good to you and me but to Sony that might look like a good way to get good cash and leave that franchise behind.

They did it with F1... although they didn’t close Liverpool straight away it took a couple of years if I remember right. Yes I’m still sore about that - Sony’s F1 game was much better than the Codemasters efforts but that’s all that’s left today.
I wonder if that someone might be Konami.

It would be interesting if Konami were prepared to take the MLB license, game code and maybe the development team for some of their valuable IPS that are currently sat doing nothing - like Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill.

Konami would probably be happy to take a low risk yearly sports license - they can probably exploit even better - and make bigger through multiplatform to sit along side the likes of PES, and Sony would probably love to make Metal Gear Solid a Sony IP they could exploit full in game, movie and animated TV

they can drop even more money then microsoft, since they make more money then xbox with playstation.
Xbox could get some money from microsoft but only for a while. share holders will not be happy if it becomes a moneypit.

life is not that simple ... lol
playstation is already spending immense money on all their games ( and of course making that money back )
tlou2,got,days gone, gow, bloodborne, astrobot, demons souls, spiderman, r&c, last guardian, horizon, gran turismo and the list goes on and on.
what did microsoft spend money on?

yeah, guessed so. the best microsoft games in the last 10 years were cuphead ( not multiplat ) and ori.
forza is always good as well. Gears did okay but wasnt on the same level as 360 era and halo was pratictly a no show.

nintendo also spending alot of money on their games and it shows. they have awesome games as well.

I don't know if Sony can just drop a lot of cash like Microsoft is doing. That's their main disadvantage.
I understand all the negative sentiments and things on the board, but the reality is that they literally can’t keep the PS5 in stock no matter what site it goes on sale. I don’t see why it’s necessary from Sony’s standpoint to try to push some crazy marketing campaign until stock starts to meet demand.

Save marketing budgets now, quietly make great games, and show great games when enough people can buy them to make dev costs back and then some (like they did with PS4).

All the fanboys going crazy on either side is just that, fanboys. But the average consumer just wants to buy a system, and it seems more want a PS5 than an Xbox at this point in time. If Sony has nothing to show at all in the next 3-6 months (or whenever supply starts to meet demand), or what they show is lackluster at best, then I’ll be disappointed and start to worry. But the last few years have shown that they tend to speak softly and carry a big stick... and not just try to sell me old freakin games (no I don’t care about MLB and most don’t) with a subscription model or tout bc...

I had such a good time with my PS4 that I expect to play many quality games on my PS5. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find one yet.

I know it seems pretty gloomy for Sony at the moment but once they drop some quality titles the tune will change.

Exactly. The same was true for PS4. First 6+ months was Resogun, The Last of Us Remastered, and a sketchy online BF4. Also, Microsoft has next to no incentive to pay for true AAA games anymore under this new model. Only showing enough “value” to keep people around. Think Amazon Prime. Jeff Bezos was asked about Prime Video competing with Netflix. The guy basically laughed and said he didn’t care, and just cared about “perceived value” to get people to keep paying for Prime. I expect the same from Xbox and GP.

And this unnecessary hostility doesn't make you much better.

You can make the point about twitter posts without making personal attacks on people.

it's one thing to spam the thread with random twitter posts without context, a whole other thing to post shit covered kids. its a very bizarre thing ive only seen on gaf where users feel compelled to post people shitting, throwing up and getting brutally beaten up to try and make an edgy point.

in this instance, hostility is perfectly allowed, and should be encouraged.

the worst thing sony can do at this point is copy Microsoft. They dont need to. Their gaming division posted $25 billion in revenue last year, more than xbox and nintendo combined. they make 3x as much as EA, ubisoft and activision. And most importantly, they got there without gamepass or porting games to PC or launching a cheap series s like console.

Gamepass works for Microsoft because they dont have exclusives like ff7 remake, the last of us 2 and ghost of tsushima shipping in a span of 90 days making a billion dollars in revenue on their own. It is affordable for Microsoft because they didnt launch the new consoles with any exclusives where as sony released two AAA games that cost a shit ton of money to make. MEdium was the first xbox exclusive, came out three months later and cost $7 million. demon souls and spiderman likely cost 3x that much at the minimum and made far more in revenue that MS wouldve ever made from something like medium.

Sony needs to double down on their strategy, not throw it away to copy the person coming in last. Double down on next gen exclusives. Double down on first party studios. MS's biggest studio is literally going to be wasted as a dlc support studio for the rest of the gen managing a last gen halo for the next 7 years because MS knows gamepass cannot sustain a development model that takes 6 years to make a brand new game.

If sony makes gamepass and in turn has ND become a support studio for fucking factions for the rest of the gen, i am quitting gaming and joining the jehovah's witnesses because there is literally no hope left for this world at that point.

I don't know why some people shout from the roof tops '' xbox win '' or '' Sony will fail ''

or Sony is doomed

every time a game launch day one in gamepass

microsoft found their way with xbox and it is gamepass clearely

good for them

but it does not mean everybody should pursue that

I think Sony must concentrate on their strengths and capitalize in them

to be successful you must be good at what u r doing and no one can do better than u

and this is what sony do in AAA high budget adventure games

every major platform holder can be successful in different areas with different strategies

I see gamepass is good for people want to pay fixed amount of money monthly and get a fixed library of games most of them are somewhat old and some are day one releases

but for people who want to play certain games day one and want to own their games I would say most publishers will not put their games on game pass for a while

resident evil .. final fantasy ... call of duty etc will not be on game pass so u must buy them

so every customer will decide if gamepass is viable to them or not

If sony did that I will be only Nintindo

I prefer to buy my games and I don't play a game unless I really want

I don't want a 100 plus library of games I do not have that much time to gaming anyway and I have strict taste so I only buy and play what I want

and dedicate my time to what I want

to people who like the gamepass model good for them

everybody decides what suits them best

I don't think that's the main disadvantage... there's a few things they could be doing... they need better fan engagement... especially for a console launch all this negative news will eventually take its toll if Sony don't do something about it I somewhat feel a bit sorry for Jimbo

I still think it's funny people don't know that you can buy every game available on Game pass for discount. There is nothing stopping anyone from buying anything. I bought Octopath Traveler just a few days ago. I thought MS would block it but they sold it to me for a discount instead. Still if people prefer to pay $70 for each individual title more power to you. Different stokes for different folks.

I wonder if those people also say they want their NF and Spotify libraries to be reduced because nobody on earth can watch 10,000 movies and tv shows, or listen to a million songs.

But when it comes to those sub services, it's always different and they shut their mouths hoping nobody brings them up.

(Edit. Spotify has 70 million audio files)

70 million tracks

Discover, manage and share over 70 million tracks, including more than 2.2 million podcast titles, for free, or upgrade to Spotify Premium to access exclusive features for music including improved sound quality and an on-demand, offline, and ad-free listening experience.

it seems a lot of people have short term memory in regards with the lead up to the Xbox and PS5, MS and their ad agencies flooding forums, social media etc with their marketing, making the narrative about how Sony is not doing things like them. We all know what happened when the things actually launched and which actually had more hype. Now its the same cycle again, same people, outlets shoving GP down everyone's throat because frankly what else? all distractions. Both have different marketing timelines and obviously MS is doing what they have always done, and Sony will stick which has always worked for them since they are the market leader.

I find it so unusual a lot of legitimate or fake actors claiming Sony will fail just because it isnt doing what MS did. Like good for MS I suppose they found their niche and a marketing strategy that works for their base, but I actually prefer how Sony has an air of mystery, which I think the market is responding better to

I know u can buy games on xbox

but most people will not find the incentive to buy a game they played on gamepass

and it is not about buying each game for 70 dollars this only for games I want day one

but most games I wait until sales and most of games on playstation go on sale fast and regularly

I do not have to buy each game on release day

and I do not have to have 100 games plus to play to be happy

This is me exactly.

After getting game pass, I have not bought any game that was on game pass. I bought at least one game that was on game pass, before getting game pass.

There is no incentive to buy it if its on game pass. Sales info are usually proof of this.

But no one wants RBI baseball. They’ve given that years of trying to make an impact and it doesn’t break through.

EDIT : I estimate MS paid $50 to $70 mil assuming it’s going to GP for more than a month of which MLB gets probably 30%. Sony already made a profit is my guess.

You think MS paid what is likely the gross income for a game, to be hosted on Gamepass for ‘more than a month’ ?

Don’t think so! Singe figure millions, and low single figures at that, is a more realistic guess.

Closing Studio Liverpool was there biggest mistake to date in my opinion, but just look at what's happened to Japan Studio. 🤦‍♂️ Sonys silence lately has been deafening.
Honestly, Japan Studio has been a massive disappointment for a long time. Streamlining that place to cut the fat and keep the value was long overdue.

I mean, the most exciting rumour about them for the longest time was a massive JRPG, which is so unlike their actual output. I know we all love Knack, though.

I think a lot of people are missing the bigger picture - and that is that situations such as the MLB one will continue to happen since MS is investing heavily into trying to acquire customers to the Xbox eco-system.

If you look at MS financials it is clear that the Gaming division is costing MS money at the moment even though they are very good at hiding it since it is lumped together with the Windows business. However, we know the operating margin in the Windows business from historical numbers so it is easy to deduce a fairly narrow range where Gaming as a whole is at and it is a loss for them (harder to pinpoint the exact size since we do not have the exact profit numbers for Surface Pro, Search and Minecraft but it should be around 2-3 USD bn for those three and then the Xbox system as an operating profit of -1 USD bn or thereabout).

I think we as gamers should just be happy to get 'gifts' from the MS shareholders but it is of course not sustainable. At some point the gaming division needs to show operating margin %s in line with the other businesses (30-70%) under the MS umbrella and they are very far from that at the moment.

They paid 19 millions for Devil May Cry 5 to be on GamePass for some months and that wasn't on day 1. This is a day 1 release from a 1st party game of the other console maker competitor, even if Sony is not the publisher. This must have costed them a fortune. Don't get it wrong they wouldn't make such efforts for any other sports game (No other sports game was a day1 before MLB ) but because this is a Sony 1st party game they wanted the headlines for this deal, you can see how the XBox fanboys on the net are loving it even though most of them don't care about baseball. Phil got his console warriors happy and in return him and his XBox goons are also happy since his ego gets shaped by their opinions, you keep interacting with Timdog and his likes and you are bound to be affected by it.

Source? The only think I can see are references to capcom saying that they got 19m for 'digital services'

Isn't this speculation at best? I recall a one-off 19M$ payment to Capcom but it wasn't disclosed who paid and what for

It's not 100% confirmation, for that we have to see the papers for the deal with our own eyes (lol), but all evidence point to that.

Remember, this is the same company that wasted 50 million dollars or more on just two streamers (Ninja and Shroud) on a failed platform for just some months and shortly after they closed it and these just two streamers went back to their Twitch with the pockets filled from Microsoft money. Microsoft and XBox are well known for throwing money just so they can find success, that's their shtick.

So this is coming from a Playstation fan first but the immediate future looks brighter for Xbox
Sorry. Your information and yourself are really cool. Everyone respects you very much. But to be honest, I'm already tired of this endless talk about the bright future of the Xbox. We've heard all this for 5 years ... And I'm not exaggerating. Everyone is interested in the games that will be released on each of the consoles. And at the moment I do not see anything except Halo that may move the needle in the near future. Services and other improvements are good, but not what consoles are bought for at all times

The way this year has gone for them is almost exactly at it went for them last year.

MS surprise announces the Series X at TGA's.

February passes without a PS5 event and a lot of people are wondering why Sony hasn't talked about the PS5. The fanboys claim they're hiding something and are to scared to talk about the PS5.

Sony doesn't say anything about the PS5 till March during Cerny's Road to PS5 talk.

The very next day they need to clarify if the PS5 is BC with all PS4 games cause Cerny said something along the lines of "we've tested the top 100 games on Playstation based off of playtime and almost all of them will be BC" A shit ton of people thought the PS5 was only going to be BC with the top 100 games on PS4.

Then some BS about the PS5 overheating spouts based off of some dumbass YT comment.

MS announces the Smart Delivery program.

Compared to how MS went about communicating their plans for Series X, Sony was incredibly quiet.

Then the Future of Gaming event took place and the tables completely turned.

This isn't a exaggeration in the slightest - Sony needs to have a 10/10 show in June or they're going to start losing the hardcore.
Wow. been a while since I last posted.

Anyway, I don't know if you've noticed but both Sony and Microsoft can't keep their consoles in stock for more than five god damn seconds. Nobody is losing anything.
