Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency, Blockchain, and You: Navigating the Future of Tech (a NeoGAF discussion thread)

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I put in a small amount to test it. Wonder if I should pull now lol.

sooo all you doge pump and dumpers are going to pay your taxes on it right?...right?!

don't get caught with your pants down laymen. youre playing with fire.

I've pumped, but I haven't dumped at all.

I don't have much experience with cryptos and tax. Can you elaborate? Is it similar to stocks with paying less taxes with long term capital gains vs more with short term or are there other specific things for cryptos?

The whole Gamestop thing is waking people up as to how market manipulation works. In DeFi, this would not be possible. Another positive for crypto.

There are articles and videos all over the internet about it. I'll post a video, although not directly crypto-based, it is important for everyone to understand.

Edit:
Another one, if you prefer someone less robotic lol.

it sadly cratered and I've lost money...for now. But I think now that dogecoin is back in the zeitgeist, when (not if) this happens again, I'll be ready.

EDIT: What I'm trying to say is that I'm not ****ing sellng.

Whats everyone's go to for crypto in terms of apps?
I'll prob buy a little doge again when it flatlines and wait for another pump and dump.

I checked out Voyager during the Doge pump but it was a mess and locked up on me a few times. Not any better then how Robinhood was doing at the time.

Mostly wanna buy small chunks of crypto every week. $5 here, $10 there etc.
I'm in the midst of cleaning up my debt ($14k across 4 credit cards, not terrible but I hate it.) so toying around with big money is out of the question till I get this squared away.

I've been using crypto.com for over a year and it's a been solid app experience for me so far. They offer a free debit card that let's you use your btc (along with a few other cryptos) as cash. You can also collect interest payments on a few different types of crypto through staking. The biggest advantage for me, over banks, is I converted all my USD into stable coins (Pax, USDC, TrueUSD, etc. ) and staked those for much higher interest rates (6-12%) than what a bank gives you.

As always, please do your own research before picking a platform. GL!

Saw XRP up over 40% and decided to check why. Looks like it’s WSB’s doing.

Apparently XRP is gonna get a pump and dump on Monday there is a telegram group doing it. I have a bunch of XRP I've been sitting on, it was amusing watching the big jump today but as usual it's coming back down.

And tomorrow my "earn" period ends, which means that in about 20 hours or so I will be able to sell my XRP. The timing couldn't be more perfect this time lol. I can still fall short though. Normally when they announce a pump and dump, generally they say it's going to be later than it really is. This allows them to dump on the buyers thinking they are part of the pump, while in reality they are part of the dump.

In any case, BTC is retesting 33k as expected. This is very healthy. Now we just need to hold it and break above 38k, and we'll highly likely be reaching at least 50-ish k in the next few weeks/months. The longer it takes to go above 38k and the previous ATH, the higher we'll likely go.

All the institutions investing in BTC probably don't want it ever sinking below 30K if they can help it

A few observations on XRP;

  • This run up has about twice the volume compared to the last one in November. This is good.
  • On the hourly chart, we are holding the 21 SMA as very strong support. It also happens to coincide with the longer term support/resistance level of $0.61.
  • The $0.61 level is already broken on the 4h chart, and we are battling to hold it right now. The next 3 hours or so will be key. It will be the difference between a double tweezers bottom at support, or, a breakdown that will take us to at least $0.50 if not lower.
  • On the daily chart, we are currently holding that same price as resistance, trying to break above.
  • We tested this level back in September of 2018. Then it took about two years to retest it during November 2020. The fact that it is taking merely 2-3 months to retest it likely means we're going to break it and head higher in the medium term.

I'm fully aware that a pump & dump was announced today for it. I don't think dumping it will be easy considering the volume that came in. I'm still watching for it though. No bearish divergences yet...

already went from 74 to 55 in a matter of minutes. Wonder if it climbs back up in the next hour or so

There's was sell wall at 61 cents, and right now it just got moved to 62 cents. Aaaand while typing this, 62.5 cents, then back to 61. There's definitely a whale taking profits.
Let's see if more people fomo in in about 40 minutes or so. But I guess the dumping process could also be in full swing by then

Thank you XRP, first time I short in my life and I'm getting a new GPU out of it. If I could I would've shorted the shit out OMG too, what a shitshow that is also, but I got it all in tanking ripple now.

I wanna get out around $0.35-38 we'll see what the action is. Still more shitcoins to short, this is going nowhere atm, too much choppy choppity chop. Still got PTSD from the big bear cycle of the past 3 years so I get scared when I hear about moons.

XRP seems to have stabilized around 39 to 40 cents. Now does it bleed down to sub-20 or maybe bounce up to 50 or 60 again. Their case is still gonna take a while right? I have a feeling they'll just settle

The lowest I expect in the short term is around 30 cents. But we'll see.

I've had it with XRP!! Sold the lot and bought ETH
Emotion is a money killer... And... XRP tends to rally when the market is correcting, and tends to dump when the rest of the market is rallying. Not always, but, quite often.

The money was better spent on ETH and for now XRP is still cheap enough to get back into.

That's my reasoning 😅
Possibly. I just hope you sold it above 60 rather than below 40. Don't be surprised if it decides to pump again shortly. Look at the parallels between KEY and XRP.

In any case... BTC is reaching a key resistance level. If we break above 38k with significant volume, I think I'll start partying.

Golden info in here;

Im usually pretty skeptical of youtubers and online personalities giving their thoughts and opinions on crypto, but ill give this one a whirl in coming days because i trust you.

crypto daily is my go-to guy for weekly crypto dose. I used to enjoy jackson palmers videos, but he left the space.

God Kraken is shit. Site folds every single day. No PnL indicators, doesn't show you buy prices next to orders. Might switch to Binance. Their app is rock solid.
