What the fuck is HADES and why is the media creating such a ridicilous FAKE hype for it?

I read the whole OP thinking it was a parody leading up to a some sort of punchline. Hades is great. I don't even like Roguelikes and I found it very enjoyable

People of the gaming world.

Since this years video game awards and its nominations for Game of The Year alot of people -myself included- just had one single question: What the fuck is this game and why was it nominated for GOTY???

Also why the fuck did it win even TWO awards at the game awards.

I know alot of people don't give a flying fuck about awards or game awards in general, but its saying something about the current state of the gaming industry. Its becoming more and more like movies. Influenced from real world events and political agenda bullshit. And here we go, theres a game nobody gave a flying fuck about but suddenly it is literally FORCED and shoved into our faces.

So lets take a look at this crappy game:

HADES
Ecy9gWg.png

came out on sept 17, 2020 but already released in Early Access in Dec. of 2019.

!!!!!OVERHELMINGLY POSITIVE!!!!!

wow. much hype. very swell

ok?

well the reviews from people who played are are total bs. "pet the dog pet the dog pet the dog 10/10" what a fucking horse crap.

Ok, then lets take a look at the stats, everyone likes stats right?

jp6U1kk.png

So what this tells us is basically nobody gave a fuck about this game up until the time it released and even when it released it wasnt that hot. Only when it got nominated for goty...literally out of nowhere, out of Keighleys ass or idk

and already it is losing players everyday.
The game that won two awards at the game awards including BEST ACTION GAME

Bravo!
One of the most over-rated games I've ever played. I don't know where all the rabid love for the game is coming from. IMO, Dead Cells is the GOLD STANDARD when it comes to "Rogue Lights".
Hades on the other hand is basically a Bastion re-skin and the Super Giant fanboys just eat it up.

Going against "your dad" to get out of hell. So edgy. :pie_eyeroll:
It's really nothing special.

I probably will never play the game and don’t care, but somehow I know where OP is coming from. I’ve had hyped games that gave me that “Shut up about it.” feeling.

Full agreement on the petting dogs stuff. I don’t get it and think everyone who gets excited about it is full of shit or emotionally retarded.

Its their best game yet. Addictive, forgiving. Just fun to play. And I hate almost anything roguelike
Thank you for using the correct word.

I love this thread. The hype and out of nowhere feeling is similar to what Transistor had around here. I fell for that and bought Transistor, played for as many hours as I could stand, decided it wasn't very fun to play. Like the OP I saw Hades ads all over the place from seemingly out of nowhere. I thought "Wow it won a couple awards, how did I miss that?". Then I saw it was from Supergiant and proceeded to ignore the whole thing.

I don't like trashing a game I haven't tried but I do get the anger that the game awards is just another form of marketing. Lots of titles out there are probably, arguably more deserving.

Super giant makes great games, lol wtf. They DESERVE ALL THE PRAISE and hopefully the game is selling well for them.

I don't think marketing has anything to do with this. Super Giant games isn't some big publisher spending lots of marketing money on awards shows so they can be featured. It just happened to strike a chord with a lot of people, especially for an indie title. That you don't like it doesn't mean it's not deserving of praise.

I mean come on sheeples, with literally a 99% positive review score on Steam after 100k+ reviews, I mean, it's hard to argue that the game isn't widely thought of as being good.

Awards should be based on merit or they cease to have any value. We all know that they’re mostly marketing, so that’s where the anger comes from, and some, like myself, can’t accept that something called an award is given out as a popularity indicator instead of a quality indicator.

Edit: I’m not speaking about Hades quality since I haven’t played it and probably won’t.

Lol since when have awards being anything BUT a popularity indicator? Whatever is most popular gets voted up. That's just how these things work. I ean, justt he act of deciding what a game is rated is subjective.

I would rank games like the Last of US WAY down on any of my lists. It's just a game that doesn't appeal to me: mediocre game play, walking along a long ass corridor, a straight to Netflix special quality of narrative, and one that is super linear to boot. Does that mean my list is objectively more or less accurate than yours?

I've never played an indie game that I like very much (I'd give them all a 7 or less), unless you want to call bloodstained an indie game, sometimes the lines are blurry. I bought hades though.. had an extra 20 bucks and it looks like diablo.

I think I'll actually put in the effort and beat this game just based on this thread.

OP gave an example. Player counts were super small and shrinking until "Awards". GOTY nomination was a bit much.

Atually Hades is the God of Hell... Hell is the hell... a place.
You do control the Hades's son (the prince of Hell) that wants to get out (free) from Hell.

Edit - Fixed.
Yeah, I Kinda screwed that post Up.

Hades is the God Of the underworld, and it was also referred to being called Hades. It wasn't hell though more like purgatory.

Call me jaded but I can’t get it up for indie games.
You are definitely missing out dude. Standouts from this gen for me are:

Hollow Knight
Axiom Verge
Katana Zero
The Messenger
Enter The Gungeon
Blasphemous
Timespinner
CrossCode
Valfaris

I played pretty much all AAA games this gen but I would put these at least on the same level as the greatest of AAA like Sekiro or Bloodborne

So I bought the game and played it. It's good. But after playing Children of Morta, I didn't feel it was that special. It's definitely a great game and the artwork and graphics are gorgeous.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or just played them in the wrong order. Maybe if I played Hades first, I would've preferred it over Morta. Or maybe not.

Of course, Hades is going to get a lot of publicity because of the past games its developer made. It is unfortunate that other games that are similar, such as Morta, are not getting as much recognition.

I've not played it for two reasons,it's a rogue like and I really,really...really don't like Supergiants art style....which is a bit petty, but it is what it is.
I'm sure there must be a good reason why it's getting lots of praise though.

I feel like Hades will be a PS exclusive when it comes to console. Seems like their type of game.
Its already on switch, that's where I played it, in handheld mode while working dead weekend shifts for overtime. Amazing game. It even has pc / switch cross save. You sure it's not on ps4/Bone?

I don't have a Switch and never realized it was on there. Someone already informed me of that. I have a PC, Xbox, PlayStation.

Underrated game of 2020: Streets of rage 4.

Deserved more praise, more even than Hades IMO
Swing and a miss, pal. Swing and a miss.

Streets of Rage 4 had super awesome music though. I liked it just fine.

Opinions mate...
Not only the ost, gameplay and design are flawless too imo.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!

To be fair don’t much care for Sekiro or bloodborne games much anymore as well. Have a feeling I would have liked these games more in my Sega genesis or Saturn days. I’ve tried half of your list and just doesn’t do anything for me now but I used to love similar games back when I was younger.

Hades is pretty good. Like, remember it for a few months good. Nothing more.

Roguelikes with a cute art style are a dime a dozen these days.

All the games I've seen from them look the same (Transistor, Pyre... this), and I have a BIG ASS problem... everything looks so tiny. Like I'm controlling and fighting ants on an isometric plane, and there isn't a way to get the camera any closer AFAIK. That's why I'll never try their games regardless of the praise they get.

Something tells me this thread would not exist if hades was a Sony first party game.

A thread where ONE person says a beloved game is crap, despite not playing it and almost everyone disagrees?

So sick of the people crying about how PlayStation games have a fanbase. Especially, on threads that have nothing to do with Sony games.

No one cares if you hate Sony. All that gets you are likes from Mr. CatLady CatLady

So sick of fragile Sony fanboys crying about liking posts. You and your SonyBros are way over sensitive Miss Toad.

I like games that when I look at the gameplay...It makes me go: "oh my god, this is why i play games, this is pushing things forward. I must play this."

I'm not getting that vibe when i look at this games gameplay, am i missing something? or is this another thing where gamers are trying to be hipsters and only give accolades to games that appear "old school"?

because the latter seems to be happening a lot with the gaming community recently...thanks dark souls.

Very carefully.

This is like the third time this week I have seen someone mention you liking posts. I was like, wtf? I don't get it. Everyone likes posts.

He likes every post he sees where PlayStation is bashed. If you see someone trashing anything about Sony, or even better anyone who dares like a PlayStation game, CatLady CatLady is guaranteed to post a like within seconds.

My brother recommended I get this game so I did. I haven’t been disappointed. Seems like the op is upset by Greek mythology and combat or something.

I think he just thinks it looks like it has kinda meh top down mechanics and gameplay which can only be ...so good ya know?

I mean it looks like the game could have been made in 2004....

there's a trend lately of honoring games that look....old. imo.

it's like we're in a stage of honoring the games that are...technically doing less.

I'm going to assume OPs rant is a Devil's advocate type rhetorical device to get a discussion going on how awesome Hades is, and not some fucking idiot that only plays AAA games or somethin'.
My personal 2020 GotY. 10/10. SuperGiant's magnum opus.

Since you’re a fan, which is worse Bastion or Transistor? Looking to start one of these soon.
