RDR 2 is already ahead visually of the Next-Gen games that will come out in the next 3-4 years.

I just watched this on a 4K TV ... Really, if you have a 4K TV at home, you can definitely grasp the difference; like damn every blade of grass or wood scratch textures is crisp and sharp.:messenger_astonished:


And it's not just the rendering, look at the tech behind the motion and flow of the water, the smoke, the mud which deforms on contact and above all the stunning work when each animation transition and blends perfectly with the game physics.


Frankly, I don't blame CDPR for not reaching this level, Rockstar are untouchable in terms of polish and details; perhaps Naughty Dog might compete and again, they never really did open world after the PS2 (Jak 2 lmao) and I doubt very frankly that with the same budget and time, they would be able to deliver something on this scale.


We can shit on R * all they want for their milking practices of GTA V Online but I'm eagerly waiting for the jaw-dropping slap Im gonna get when they'll release their next gen PS5/XBS title.:messenger_ok:

RDR2 PC was so impressive to me on all high settings, with a few on Ultra, on my rig that I was largely disappointed when playing Cyberpunk by just how much i had to lower my settings to maintain 60fps. Apparently Cyberpunk is more CPU intensive, but maaaaaan it's really hard to tell with how impressive of a package RDR2 is overall.

Been playing the game for the first time, on PS5, and I'm impressed at the attention to detail. The scope of the world coupled with how clean it looks image wise is stunning. Can't imagine how good it looks for the Ultra settings PC version, as well as xbox version which I hear is even better than the playstation version. This game really proves going open world doesn't have to sacrifice polish and care of a linear game.

RDR 2 looks amazing but it's mostly open, nature environments. And even in town areas you mostly get small, short buildings. Most of the detail stays at ground level. The rest is just air and the sky.

Cyberpunk has a much more dense city environment that also has much higher buildings and more verticality, with structures and areas to explore above other areas, which means added hand made stuff at more levels above the ground. Denser cities also mean more people, more vehicles, more junk scattered around, etc. It's a much more demanding environment to add detail to and make it look good.

Pre-downgrades (LOD, light sources, AO), version 1.00 still looks mindblowing on every console.

Yup, RDR2 PC is the best looking game I've seen.

It's pretty insane. I already thought it was one of the best looking games when I played it on PS4 Pro back at launch, but now on i9 10850k and RTX 3080 running on a 4K TV... as a complete package, damn this game still looks better than just about everything else.

Couldn't get away with it on the ps4 pro, horrible hazy blur to it. I'd imagine it's the same on ps5 with it running in a boosted pro mode.

I'm playing it right now on PC max settings and while it's a pretty game, it's clearly designed for last gen consoles.
It will probably be eclipsed soon by games that have far higher tri-count, texture resolution, improved skin + hair shading & of course raytracing.
 
The lighting difference alone is a league better in Cyberpunk 2077 over RDR2. I LOVE RDR2, the game is stunning on PC, and I do think it's one of the best looking games available today, but I still think Cyberpunk 2077 looks better. Lighting and reflections in CP2077 are just on another level compared to pretty much ALL games.

I should’ve done it because the game was a huge fucking chore otherwise! That entire game was a boring piece of shit that spent more time up its own ass than any other Rockstar game to date. It wasn’t fun, the characters were shitty and unlikeable with no redeeming factor and the gameplay felt like you were wading through mud the entire time. I wish I just gave up on rather than forcing myself to the end of something hoping it would get better but instead what I got was a game where one of the final missions was literally mashing X to a Queens of the Stone Age song.

It's by far the most beautiful game I've ever played. I played it on PC Ultra 1440p and I can't wait to re-experience it again at 5120x2880. It's the first time I felt a game needed to be played at 4k or higher to truly appreciate it.
 
It is. But are NPCs and bugs graphics? I already said pop-in is better in rdr2 even before you mentioned it. What about everything else?

I find the overall presentation of RDR2 much more appealing. It's very consistent in that every area is high-detail. You'd be hard-pressed to find any area in the game that looks neglected detail-wise. Cyberpunk on the other hand is very inconsistent in that regard.
Texture work looks horrible on alot of buildings, very low-detail, just basic color textures without much going on. As if they were procedurally generated, which I suspect they were. And did you see the sprite cars? That's just...wow. No further comment on that.
The lighting also looks flat alot, which really stands out with low-detail geometry. Makes it look like ps3/360 graphics. The water rendering on Cyberpunk is laughable, RDR2 easily beats it there. NPCs also look better in RDR2, more believable and higher detail.

All in all, RDR 2 is just more impressive to me.

It looks not so advanced in all aspects. Characters, specially hair, were dated even at launch time compared with the typical narrative shooters from Sony.

However, RDR2 is impressive regarding light and nature fidelity. No other game has better simulation of natural light in the long distance and nature elements blending. All other games I saw look artificial regarding that. They are very convincing in the short distance but poor or inaccurate in the long distance. I don't know how they managed to achieve the correct light behaviour in a dynamic environment at that scale.

How would you define a world that isn't static? Any examples of current games that do it well?

It's also entertaining how the same people who hate everything with Sony's name on it are always triggered by the same people who "dare" to praise anything good in Sony's games which everyone who's not a blind fanboy can see with his/her own eyes. :messenger_winking:
