[IGN] S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Official In-Engine Gameplay Teaser (Xbox Series X|S, PC)



Per IGN:

Get your first in-engine look at the first-person sequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 and its Zone through the eyes of its main protagonist, Skif. As developer GSC Game World puts it, this teaser represents "how the game actually feels: fast-paced change of scenery, ominous landscapes and the ever-present feeling of an inevitable danger accompanied by a barely-distinguishable guitar soundtrack." S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is due for release at some point in 2021 on Xbox Series X|S (day one on Xbox Game Pass) and PC.

Radiate me if old. I searched and checked the first couple pages.

I just wish I could forget the long history of great games with sequels that fell far short. Especially considering the hiatus.

If they manage to nail even only the half of the atmosphere and worldbuilding of the original, I'd still be singing praises to this game.

Even though I love games like Metro and Chernobylite, they can't replace what the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy did.

I played stalker back in 2007 i dont remember it being only playable with m&k


Its a pc game from 2007. You couldnt actually play the game with a controller. You cant actually do the stuff the game requires you to do. The reason games today play with controllers is because they're made that way and have more assists that i can count for every action.

I wouldnt expect a console re-release. Its not a game thats playable with pads

I feel like if this is going to be a true sequel then mod support is essential.

I don't think I've ever played a STALKER game without mods, actually.

The X-Ray Engine that is used in the trilogy is not made for consoles, at all, for starters.

Stalker was kind of unique in that it actually had a real time global illumination system in a semi-working state hidden behind a CVAR. It would completely tank your rig, but if it worked, it looked years ahead of anything else. RT GI was barely a thing back in 2007, but Stalker had it in some form.

They werent able to release gameplay yet and there are people expecting it to be released in 2021?

The last time I heard, development was kind of a mess. Even Atomic Heart was able to release some gameplay snippets already.

Teaser looks good, but "in engine teasers" end up looking nothing like the final product, so meh

are you alright buddy ? The fuck doom or half life have to do with anything ? FEAR had its weapons changed, recoil removed, AI nerfed, enemies were programed to miss more, they did less damage. You didnt get the original pc game on consoles.

Why do you feel personally offended by the fact that controllers are utter shit and need games specifically adjusted for them ? Its just how it is, no need to take a personal afront to it. Jesus.

Like i said. Stalker was never on consoles, never had controller support, you couldnt play it with controllers and its pretty much guaranteed to never come on a console.

I am not saying the Stalker trilogy can't run on PS4/XBO or current-gen consoles. I am saying that the engine behind the original trilogy is not made for consoles, first and formost, and would run at terrible framerates.

From the Tech Interview on Metro 2033, Oleg Shishkovstov:
Digital Foundry: So, to be clear, there's no shared code whatsoever between the 4A and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. X-Ray engines?

Oles Shishkovstov: When the philosophies of the engines are so radically different it is nearly impossible to share the code. For example, we don't use basic things such as C++ standard template library and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has every second line of code calling some type of STL method. Even the gameplay code in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was mostly using an update/poll model, while we use a more signal-based model.

So, the final answer is "no", we do not have shared code with X-Ray, nor would it be possible to do so.

Oles Shishkovstov That would be extremely difficult. A straight port will not fit into memory even without all the textures, all the sounds and all the geometry. And then it will work at around one to three frames per second. But that doesn't matter because without textures and geometry, you cannot see those frames! That's my personal opinion, but it would probably be wise for GSC to wait for another generation of consoles.
So, not really realistic either way.

Do you not understand the words that are coming out of my mouth ? Stalker had a gameplay designed in such a way that it requires a mouse and a keyboard to be played. The firefights are extreme, you need pinpoint precision. Its inventory heavy, you need to quickly be able to work in it. It has many quick keys for accessing 3 different types of health, besides bandaged. You would not be able to properly play the game with a pad. The pad does not permit the actions that this game requires. Why is it so difficult for you to understand ? I though this is a simple thing yet i am repeating the same shit 5 times and you still dont get it ? Did you maybe miss bedtime ?
