i mean i dont care about low scores but you gotta atleast try every part of the game if you are reviewing it! that is a pathetic reviewer and should be sacked tbh. reviewing a game isnt just doing everything you wanna do, its a job, you need to explore every part of the game whether it seems interesting or not

Most of the time when there is outrage over a game being scored too low, it comes from people who are excited for the game, but haven't yet played it. It comes off as just denial to themselves.

There was nearly a riot at GameSpot's office when they had the audacity to score Twilight Princess an 8.8.

In hindsight, 8.8 may have been a tad generous.

She played the game for over 50 hours. The Quartering intentionally put a big lie in the thumbnail of his video to generate clicks and outrage.

I'll go as far as calling it a clickbait title. The allegation that it's to generate "outrage" needs some evidence, which no doubt you will provide, because you are an instinctually serious person.

The content of the actual video is much more precise and descriptive, though. So to me it's interesting to watch as, apparently, the people smearing The Quartering as a sexist harasser are now whistling and shrugging and not saying a word and the remaining criticism against the Quartering video is now circumscribed to the Clickbait title.

I agree. It is a clickbait title.

But from sexist targeted harassment against a female Gamespot gaming journalist all the way to to a clickbait tile.

My, oh my, how far the accusations have travelled.

People should just grow balls and/or tits and learn to accept criticisim and ocaassionally some offence. It's fucking part of life.

THIS!!!!!!! Someone giving your favorite game a lower score than you'd like isn't the end of the world. It's fine. We'll all live. KEEP THE SCORES!

Why do people even care? Find a trusted source you largely agree with and then stick to their scores. I for myself only trust 4players. Could not care what anyone else scores a game.

He thinks her review is dreadful. Also OK.
Criticizing a review is fine. He straight up lied about it, though. She played 50 hours of the game and his clickbait has led people to believe she didn't play it at all, or didn't play it "correctly." Despite the fact that no one is yelling about critics who gave the game 10/10 while spending less than half the time Kallie did with it. The Quartering is a joke.

Is Jeff Grubb complaining he did not get the clicks for his baiting?

Also one is, honestly I don’t even know who he works for, and the other is for gamespot, one of the top 3 known places on earth for game reviews.

If Kallie had just stopped at the written review, it most likely would have not made much waves, but no, she had to make a video cast where she basically showcased how little she bothered to do her job to review the game.

Is it so hard to differentiate both? Poor Jeff, wants the attention.

Lol he said oh right hating women is more profitable. Like how the FUCK do you come up with that? It’s actually not profitable to hate women, fuckin Twitter....

The easy answer is that people need to grow up and not flip out over review scores, but this has been happening forever. I think getting rid of review scores would only redirect the outrage somewhere else, towards something else. Criticism of a review is fair game if you feel a review is poorly written or the reviewer made poor arguments for/against a game, but once it turns into harassment and sending death threats, then you've lost all perspective. Social media has made this worse much like everything else, and platforms like Twitter aren't the forum for constructive discourse, but it's easy for someone to be toxic there and the platform holders want their users to be at each others' throats, so they aren't going to do anything about it.

For his part, Grubb also comes off as a loser here, as he has often over the past several months. Pandering, attention-seeking and virtue signaling all wrapped up in one Twitter post. He's part of the problem and he doesn't recognize it.

Ratings are fine but a 10 point scale is stupid as half are never used. Either use a 5 point scale or positive, negative, neutral.

If you are going to call yourself a journalist and review things, be critical of things, or even praise everything, you will have to face criticism at some point in your life and deal with it. Life is difficult. I wonder what the performance reviews at these companies are like? Can they handle a boss that wants more than they give or something different than they provide.

I’m kind of torn on reviews. I’d rather have them than blindly buy games like the old days. However, I think they should be really based off of the merits of the game and not any preconceived notions or social biases unless there is something dangerously offensive in the game.

Why are they saying that she didn't played the game?
Tbh I'd prefer that games were classified as most movies outlet are, with a 5 star rating.

0 - Heresy
1 - Terrible
2 - Bad
3 - Regular
4 - Good
5 - Amazing

It’s a Clickbait title for sure but if you understand context then it makes sense. GameStop has removed the panel video that is the source of criticism and to me, that is admitting that the criticism was correct. People get really in their feelings over reviews scores.

Nowadays, the opinion of an individual doesn't mean much, but the average grade is extremely important. Everyone pays attention to the average rating of the players.

A 100% scale seems better to me.

I'd also say post-release patches, free added content & DLC (& the now standard backwards compatibility on consoles) have changed the value of game revues forever, i.e. a fact which has made some review sites "tentatively" adapt ("reviews in progress" are a start), but not fully realize.

Cyberpunk needs a release day review... & then further amendments to its score over time. Because in six months, it'll be a little beast (especially once its next gen patch has landed). But if the ps4 & One generation have shit ports, their scores should also reflect that, i.e. in a normal world, it would be totally fine to trash Cyberpunk (for example) on the base ps4 & One with a 50% out of 100% due to its shitty bad framerate & bugs, whilst giving the PC Version a 90% score... with the added caveat of "you need to powerful rig to play this" addendum.

But I'm not a fanboy who sodomizes himself with his favorite toys (be it a piece of plastic hardware... or some pseudo social justice B.S. which dictates rankings & scores hurt ze feelings).

I don't read reviews or watch trailers; I'll form my own opinion thank you very much.
I remember when IGN gave god hand a 3/10, lmfao but also smdh thinking about all the people that gave it a pass because of seeing the score on that garbage review.
When people ask me to score something I just say I don't do that. Which is another problem with scored reviews, most people don't even actually read the review, they just scroll down to see the number and if it's lower than an "8", lolpass.

Haha eliminate ratings because journalist are too shit at their jobs. Hey why not get rid of writing too make their jobs even easier? Clearly they can’t fucking handle playing a god damn videogame. Just keep lowering the bar for these lazy fucks

Look it’s ok to admit when people did a bad job and didn’t do what they were hired to do. You don’t have to invent some conspiracy that every person upset with game reviewed is a sexist and we need to remove ratings.

Just admit that professional critics are not infallible. Lol how fucking hard is that?

You mean, people who didn't watch the video itself?

Perhaps. The clickbait title is definitely on him. The Quartering deserves the backlash from having a clikcbait title, which has absolutely nothing to do with "targeted harassment" against a female journalist, which is the smear that is making the rounds.

or didn't play it "correctly.

This is a different altogether.

Surely, if you reflect for 30 seconds, you will realize that the claim she didn't play it at all is directly incompatible with the claim she didn't paly it properly, the latter not being expressed in the title but in the video itself, where he explains what he means by her not having played it.

Surely you can see how those two are not compatible.

Wow.

This directly tells me the degree to which you're being serious about The Quartering video, the one you're passing such definitive comment on, berceuse right at the beginning he explicitly calls out outlier positive reviews, and states in the clearest fashion possible the game deserves to be marked down "a point or two" because of bugs.

That means - basic arithmetic - that even if the game is picture perfect in all other domains, according to The Quartering, it would deserve a 9 or an 8 at the most.

Wow.
Amazing.

The disinformation goes on.

This pungent moment of involuntary sincerity from you sheds light on your whole post. There is a joke alright, a sour tasteless one, and it's called "A post By Magenta Mage".

If that's true then it's dodgy as fuck.

Why did she say that stuff on the panel show if it wasnt even true.

Like she gives the game a 7 then goes on to chat about it and acts like "I couldn't be bothered with it to be honest" then that gets picked up as her review is kind of an outlier at the time.

Some YouTuber latches on to that so their attitude is "delete the evidence"? It's too late for that. What a shambles.

So now we should get rid of review scores entirely because some reviewers can't be professional or trustworthy.

Eliminate something relied on by millions of gamers because a couple outlets want to review games using different metrics than what large parts of the audience expect? How about hell no. If someone wants to put their criticism out in the public domain, then it is incumbent on them to either ignore counter-criticism or defend their original criticism. There are no special classes of criticizer's who don't deserve criticism of their criticism.

Is this satire?

Either way, The Quartering is a whiny manchild and he has been since he was complaining about little pieces of cardboard for a "living."

From personal experience, of course.
But, if you try to play the role of those who have to suffer such harassment (and therefore feel empathy) only for having "dared" to undermine the media credibility of what must necessarily have been considered an essential masterpiece for anyone, coming to read about threats against such a person who expresses himself negatively about it, I would say that on a social level it certainly cannot be ignored.
It can be. I do it every day. You can try to bring the empathy card into this, but the truth is, I don’t care about the “poor whittle devs.” They’re adults. They can take care of themselves.
Meta Critic score are written in Contracts for the Development of new games. As I sad AAA means 85-90+ Metacritic score as an example. Thats why I do not even care about Polygon or Kaotku reviews anymore since they o not have scores attached. With no scores attached I do not care what people write about it.
That sounds like a personal problem to me.

Is this satire?

Only two possible options exist: either one agrees with or one is using satire. I simply cannot even fathom anyone disagreeing with you.

Your factual mistakes about The Quartering video probably come from you dismembering it, not watching it at all, or you wanting to misrepresent it. He literally opens by calling out outlier reviews, both glaringly positive and negative.

That is a fact and as a fact you cannot circumvent it as you seemingly tried to in the last paragraph of the post I was replying to.

Either way, The Quartering is a whiny manchild and he has been since he was complaining about little pieces of cardboard for a "living."

I'm sure whenever he looks at his bank account, the "living" you're referring to, which his 1 million subscribers sustain, his first thought is how can he ever be in the good graces with Magenta Mage.

Though I'm not one of his subscribers, If I were him, I'd certainly make it my top priority in life to gain your approval.

Unfortunately, toxicity is always going to exist no matter the community or industry involved.

People need to understand that reviews are opinions of the writer. Nothing about them molds an opinion that is expected to be shared by everyone reading or watching it.

There are multiple examples all over the internet, including GAF, where some people just can't accept what another person's opinion is. They think that their own is factual, and no one else's matters or has any merit. Which, yeah, you're certainly entitled to your own opinion, but dismissing others while acting like yours is final and factual is unjust.

That being said, a lot of people put a BIZARRE amount of power in a review/rating number and/or score. So much so that I'll never understand. If you love it or enjoy it, you love it or enjoy it. No ones opinion is going to change or affect that. No one can take that away from you. That's it. Want to discuss it? Go right ahead! But there's a difference between a cordial discussion, and someone telling them they're wrong because their opinion doesn't match their own.

I'm over the Gamespot review situation because, yeah, it's her opinion. The issue people apparently have with it is that it sounds almost like she reviewed a game that she didn't care to partake in. A lot of stuff sounds like she didn't really dive into things people cared to know more about it, etc. So some people got salty as a result. Some also got salty about the rating itself. Others started saying that people were angry because the reviewer is a woman. It's all ridiculous. Truthfully I don't know why people continue to give game sites like Gamespot a click if they're potentially worried about this kind of situation. Kotaku and Polygon gave me plenty of reasons to ignore them all together several years ago, lol. Half the time it feels like these sites are duking it out with one another over who can flex their opinions that have nothing to do with the video game their reviewing harder.

The Quartering can be respected for being a "hardworking" YouTuber. That being said he's obviously one of THOSE YouTubers that goes after clickbait-y drama related topics. I mean, his thumbnails should be a give away. I personally think he's kind of a douche bag, but there are people out there that like him, so to each their own. But that style of YouTuber exists, is popular, and is all over the platform.

Hate him? Don't give him attention.

Hate the review/review score/Gamespot? Don't give them attention.

I don't understand why people blow these situations up to what they are, or give them attention at all.

I'd say social media was a mistake, cause in a lot of ways it really was. But I can't help but think Twitter is the absolute worst when it comes to this kind of stuff.

An overall score for a review is fine. Each reviewer has an opinion... Based off the video it seems she really wasn't interested in playing it. I think we all have played a game and wasn't sold at first at some point but came back around (days/weeks/months) later and was able to enjoy it. In the end when your reading or watching a review your subjected to their opinion. You should find a reviewer that you trust (if you depend on reviews) but you can't Force someone to review it your way.

If you don't trust a reviewer or journalist simply don't watch it
or supportt them. Cyberpunk apparently had 9 million pre orders... So the game is doing fine regardless.

LMAO at Grubb, he completely ignored the part where she reviewed the game without actually playing it.
Apparently she did play it but skipped a lot. And the fact she also doesn't like RPGs in general so she went in playing a game from a genre she knew she disliked from the beginning. Her mind was already made up.

Whats wrong with scores and ratings ? Personally I like them, gives games a baseline if it’s decent or not.
Peoples egos are way to fragile these days and use the word toxic if they don’t agree with something way too readily.
Secret to reading reviews is reading as many as you can from people you now have unbiased views and can see a game for what it is not inject your own political slant into the review.

Well, scores are very important to people who make a game's reception a part of their personality.

These same people are also usually best avoided.

The outrage is linked to it being clickbait. He knows the lie will get people angry at the reviewer and he knows making people angry will get him clicks.

I agree that the video isn't sexist but it's still very misleading.

He says "she barely played the game" when in reality she put 10s of hours into it and completed the main story. He says "you had no interest in doing the side quests, you're not a fan of RPGs" when in reality she put 30 hours into the side quests and praises them as the best part of the game.

In the written review she goes into detail on all the things she did and the RPG mechanics she interacted with. I think The Quartering just watched this video of her and didn't read the actual review she wrote.

No. That dumb bitch put a target on her own back because of her IGN controversies, her tweets, her sjw agenda and her Days Gone review.

She brought this on herself so she can play the victim again. She's been doing this for years at this point. She's famous for this so that's why she gets more scrutiny, not because she's a woman.

The game deserves more the 7s than the 10s right now imo.

Her score based on the issues she faced with true game seems fair... she put way more hours in the game than most reviewers did.
