To back up PS5 saves I need to be a PS+ member?

Is this for real, Sony?

At least give me the option to back them up to a USB if you're going to put such a simple feature behind a paywall.

Given you can share PS+ from one account for a whole console, there are going to be tons of PS5 users without PS+. If something happens to your console or you want to take your save data elsewhere, you can't without paying for PS+ even if you already have all the other benefits to PS+ from another account.

I just had a situation where my sister came over and did the first few levels of Astrobot as a guest using her PSN login. When I was logging out it told me her data would be deleted if I didn't save it. I pressed save and the only option I was given was through PS+ in which she is not a member and all her data was lost. I haven't even told her yet as I'm sure she'll come back to play even more of the game (she loved it) at a later time.

Also, if I want to sell my PS5 and get another at a later date I’ll have to subscribe to PS+ on every account people use on my PS5 and then do subscribe again when I get another PS5 to download the saves.

This is stupid and ridiculous.

Soo instead of logging her in as guest just add her profile, pretty sure on ps4 it even tells you once your logged out as a guest all the data would be deleted.

Now I know that. Back with the PS4 I could just save the data on a USB, here I had no options at the end just lose the save or pay £7.99.

At least they got with the times and have instant cloud saves on PS5... no need to upload the saves, they‘re automatically uploaded.

I was bummed about this too. We have two PS5's in the house and I do not want to pay for 3 PS+ Subs even getting them cheap on CDKeys.

Yeah, it sucks. I hope they give users other options who don't have PS+. Especially with some of the launch issues if you have to send your console in you'll lose your data without PS+.

i didnt notice, i copy my saves to my usb ( ps4 ) to ps5 but i didnt try the otherway around. maybe just for security reason they disable it right now, maybe they will add it later.

You can't copy saves to usb on Xbox one either, and I'm assuming on XSX/S also.

Likely to make it harder for people to modify save files in games like Borderlands and Dead Island for "hacked" items.

I think this is as good a place as any to ask this: I was thinking of buying the black Friday PS+ deal for my PS4 but having looked, it doesn't seem as if the 18 game library available to the PS5 is also part of that deal. Am I missing something because I can't find that deal anywhere.

And MS will patch their tools, it works both ways. I doubt Sony will allow cloud saves outside of PS+ membership. They could have done it on the PS4.
They should take part of their cost of games, to create small storage for that game saves. I think that's how Steam and MS is doing it.

The PS+ "free" game collection?

It's for the PS5 only and you need a PS5 to see it. Can't even add them via webstore/app unless you have a PS5.

It is free on Xbox I believe. So either Sony update the PS5 to use usb transfer or make cloud saves free.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
I’m not really interested in backing up my saves I would like the option to stop this auto upload to the cloud and just have the saves on the console instead of both.

OK, cheers. How long is the PS5 collection available for?

I don't believe they ever gave a date for if or when they will pull them.

If going by the Vita (they had a similar PS+ Collection), it was well over a year I believe and they they put out a PSA with ample time for those who had yet to redeem them.

If it is for longer than 3 months, I'd be buying it now because I'm sure I'll be able to afford the PS5 in a couple of months. I wish Sony was clearer on this.

How is this still a thing? I just loaded my 10 years+ Xbox 360 Monkey Island SE load file from the cloud on Xbox Series X. Easy, fast, free, seamless.

Probably in the same way where you need Live to play F2P games or online beta's/demos. Both companies need to release their silly paywalls on both of these things. Sony for the saves (especially since backup to USB seemingly is not ready or coming) and MS with the F2P paywall.

Oh yeah, thats one of the most stupid things on Microsoft side, incredible that you need Gold to use Netflix.

They dropped the Netflix paywall I believe, just not F2P.

If Sony doesn't offer USB in a future update, then they need to drop their paywall as well for the backup saves.

Yep. They absolutely need to add USB save backups (and PS5 game cold storage, at a lower priority). A nice bonus would be free save syncing, it's not like saves are huge, and I'm not subbed to PSN all the time.
