For those who bought both next gen systems this week, which one are you liking more (so far)?

I thought I'd lean more towards the Series X, but at the end of the first week I'm liking the PS5 more.

It's much much much buggier (real annoying to have disc PS5 games recognized as digital PS4 games you don't own), but when the OS is working it's really nice and feels new.

I also fucking LOVE the DualSense; especially in Astros and Call of Duty.

I've hooked up my 4TB external from my PS4 and while a few games couldn't be found (Ghost of Tsushima, FFVII Remake, RE4), I just re-downloaded them quickly to the drive. Ghost is amazing in 60fps.

With Dark Souls, Miles, Astros, CoD (NO CAMPAIGN), Godfall, and Sackboy installed on the SSD I still have about 400GB free.

Ps5 by alot based on the games available and controller. As a whole I prefer Playstation. Xbox is merely a box for exclusives. This will again be the case in the next gen.
XSX is cool and Gamepass is great but none of it feels “next gen” YET. Nothing wrong with that atm as i love me some Forza. But to say my $500 XSX is playing the same Forza i’ve already pumped hours into is disappointing.

Astro, Souls, and Spiderman have blown my socks off. Ratchet and Turismo already around the corner.

I’m a PC Gamer, but I bought the PS5 for exclusives. Mostly because I have never played Demon’s Souls. However, it looks like both boxes are going to be great this generation.

Edit: I didn’t vote.

Should have put a third option of love them equally!

These are honestly great consoles with some very serviceable cross-platform and cross-generation titles.

All thee consoles look great in person too. Personally, I’m a huge fan of the PS5 after balking at the distressingly large size initially.

Loving the PS5 way more at the moment. MS not having any kind of exclusive on launch was a huge miss (RIP Halo).

When I plugged in my Series X, it just felt like a faster Xbox One. Same UI, same controller. It's a great machine, but there was nothing 'next-gen exciting' about it.

PS5 definitely had that 'next-gen' feel to it. New UI, phenomenonal controller, Astro's Playroom; everything about it was fresh. Definitely a much better experience overall.

I think not changing the UI on the XBOX side was a mistake based on the things I'm hearing based on initial feel. The OS in its current state is really great but I'm always baffled by Microsoft's inability to wow people with their OS. They made their fortune on OS development. It's quite baffling.

I do love the addition of dynamic backgrounds though. That was sorely missed.

Xbox for sheer console and ease. Ps5 for gaming. I did have a very bad freeze while playing spider man terrible screeching noise. Had to reboot. On side note the Xbox is not getting along with my JBL sound bar.

I'm no fan of the Xbox UI but keeping it as is was probably a better choice than what Sony is offering at launch. It feels like an evolution of the PS4 UI but completely unfinished. Accessing certain menus and functions feels like they are buried a level or two too deep which is probably one of my biggest gripes about the XBox UI. I'm also not a fan of the card system, the elements are far too large and it looks clunky. The store is also a mess. I'm pretty sure there is no way to browse deals or add-ons right now. On the plus side, it's snappy and very responsive. They've also added a Wishlist which is nice but you can only use it to add games and not DLC.

Not really. Have you ever been wowed by Windows?

It's been a while, but yes.

Windows 3.1
Windows 95
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 2000
Windows XP

Interesting. Hadn't had a chance to play with the PS5 UI yet. PS4 UI wasn't earth shattering but it was .. calming? The ambient noise and transitions were nice. XBOX UI does a great job of managing library, etc and the store has gotten much better. I do wish it rendered in 4K though.

PS3 XMB is still my favorite. I just like the simplicity. PS4 evolved from that and not for the better by my estimation. PS5 also seems to be evolving in the wrong direction. Now it only list your last seven games in main bar (along with the store (1st in line) , explore (2nd in line and seem little more than annoying advertising), seven most recent games, PS Plus, Game Library. Your game library defaults to your entire collection when it should probably be the installed tab. Maybe that's a nitpick but my collection is 675 games but I've only got 18 installed. Maybe I'm just annoyed that it's all new but with PS3/PS4 you never really felt lost in the UI with the exception of messing with some of the system settings.

I only have a One X and I think the UI has improved a bunch but I think it's generally slow (not download speeds). It also feels like there are multiple paths to accomplish the same task which feels bloated but at least it feels more well thought out and complete.

Got Xbox first, thought i was pretty cool, game pass, etc. The UI was okay. 2 days later, got the PS5. Much more impressed with the PS5, including UI and the way it feels. It's snappy. My go to game on Xbox is Gears 5, but the PS5 hasn't been off over for days, whole family is playing quality games. Very impressed with the PS5 overall. I also really love the haptic feed back, its very good, much better than I thought it would be. This is no rumble pak for N64, this is legit immersive game changing experience. Astro Playroom, great introduction too.

The resume feature on xbox is kind of neat too, but the card system on PS5, is also very handy. Different approaches, different results, but similar.

I don't regret getting both, different experiences.

Alot more people will be able to contribute next week when the rest of the world gets the PS5.

I suspect PS5 will still be my main/preferred console next gen but I do really like the Series X. Best thing about it is playing games in Dolby Atmos, worst thing is the controller light at night. The engineering of the console its self is amazing. Whisper quiet.

Same as last gen , Xbox for game pass and multiplats and PlayStation for first party.

I prefer just about everything with Xbox, better hardware and software ecosystem, but can't deny the likes of GOW, HZD, TLOU etc are essential gaming.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Won't vote as I don't have any of those, but if I could get one for free it would be the PS5, mostly for some of the exclusives that will come out in the future.

I got them both. Demon’s Soul and the Dual Sense are game changers for me. The Xbox is a monster of a console, but the lack of a next-gen exclusive really sucks.

I sold my series X on eBay. Didn't think it was worth it. Would rather wait for AMDs new GPUs to upgrade my PC.

I love quick resume, Forza Horizon 4, and Gears 5 st 4k 60 but you can't compete with great new games. Demon's and Spiderman have take up most of my time. PS5 for now. I love them both though. I wish more people could be that way instead of looking for a way to make fun of one of these plastic boxes.

They been through all the revolutionary UI changes through the Xbox 360 era... They know a bit of sheen and gloss just complicates it all. I'm loving the UI it's functional and simple and above all no music on menus or flashy graphics. Just my games where I want them on a quick customisable interface.

My Xbox arrives today and my PS5 arrives Monday.

I have Demon Souls, Godfall, and Spiderman for the PS5.

What should I be playing on the Xbox this weekend? Yakuza?

I have Assassins' Creed for the PC and don't feel like double dipping.

Preference depending on game / feature:

XSX for CoD and playing with friends. People may complain the UI is simplistic, but I prefer it.

PS5 for DS remake. That game is awesome. The controller is cool, but it will be more interesting to see how it’s utilized in the future.

Both have exceeded my expectations 👍🏼

Ok so let me start with the ps5
PS5 pros: Controller is amazing easily best controller right now, just feels great.
Love the texture on the ps5, personally I wanted a black system but this is cool too.
Demon Souls is amazing, looks and sounds great, been on this game for a few days.
Spider man is cool, it’s basically a $50 DLC though.
It’s really fast. Can’t get up to take a piss without the game already loaded.
Buffed up PS4 games is a real treat, especially if you missed out on some of them.

Cons: Not much to play, outside of demon souls, I really don’t see a reason to want this system right now, if you can find one or someone reselling for cheap sure. Next year will be much more worth it.
Still can’t access your ps3’s PSN downloads, let me play the games I brought on the ps3’s PSN store, I don’t see the issue. Don’t try an re sell me MVC2 next year when I own it on PS3.

Xbox series X
Pros: strongest system with the most potential.
Controller feels great, especially for shooters.
3rd party games so far looks amazing.

You can play OG Xbox games all the way to the current Xbox which is the best feature imo. I don’t want to pull out a 360 just to play 1 game for like an hour so that’s a plus.
Gears 5 looks insane on this system.
Quick resume is amazing, I can go from playing a 360 game to an Xbox one game in a matter of seconds.

Cons:
No first party launch games
They needed halo or at least the medium.
Basically the same controller. Don’t get me wrong I like it, but I wish they added more to it.
Fuck batteries lol.
Outside of Halo infinite and The medium I can’t think of anything coming next year which is sad. If they had at least 2/3 more exclusives coming next year I would say this system would be a better buy than the ps5.

Last thoughts:
Honestly the PS5 is hardly better than the series X. Both lack games, just the ps5 has a nicer line up next year, unless Microsoft has some surprises. Personally I would go with the PS5, but if you see a series X grab it.

Existing game library that I have - PS5 (as I don't have Xbox One, I have no games to fall back on to)
What's being offered for the next gen - PS5 (midly interested in Miles Morales... only when it goes on discount)
UI experience - PS5 (looks slick)
Functionality / Stability of the experience - XSX (PS5 had some minor hick-ups and errors many times already and feels a bit buggy, while XSX has been quite stable)
How the thing looks - XSX (PS5 is just too big and odd looking)
Controller - PS5 (Dual Sense is nice - although little gimmicky - but I like the analog stick on Dual Sense better for some reason)

So yeah. Game wise PS5 - and HW wise, XSX.

As I play more Japanese games than Western games - I knew PS5 would be my 1st choice - but XSX is quite nice. I downloaded bunch of GamePass games and both consoles now have backlogs for me to play quite some time.

I'd like to think the 2 consoles club will try to be impartial because we dropped a lot of cash on them.
To me they compliment each other really well. One is a pricey next-gen experience, the other a supercharged computer with lots of value.
Favorite feature I didn't know I needed: quick resume.
Adapative triggers put too much strain on my injured hands. Haptics are cute but that's it.
Spiderman and Demons Souls don't feel like launch titles but like quality 1st party Sony content. Best playstation lineup easily.

Overall: 5 stars on both, just for the fact >1 minute loading times are eradicated trough brute force.

I have both and love both. I do prefer the interface on the xsx more. the games on ps5 are much better of course. demon's soul is a master piece reborn, miles morales is freaking amazing, and astro bot was a joy. valhalla and cod are great on the xbox. overall i have to give the edge to xbox though because i like the interface better, being able to store xsx games on the external hdd, and the biggest reason is VRR support.
