Mass Effect Legendary Edition | Official reveal trailer

That description is baffling.

"We're not just going to give you a simple remake of the original games"
"We will do everything we can to modernize the gaming experience"
"Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a fully remastered and enhanced 4K Ultra HD version"

So, rather than a "simple" remake, it's remasters - which is a LOT more simple than actually remaking the game - yet at the same time they're doing "everything they can" to modernize the experience... ...by which they mean just upressing it and slapping some textures on.

What the fuck? I mean, I expected it, but what's going on with that marketing?
I expect them to rework mass effect 1 combat and planet scavenging. The wording is very vague. I hope it's running on a new engine.

Current gen? I genuinely don't understand how a publisher can be so shortsighted.

Newsflash idiots, come Spring, the hardcore gaming audience who will snap this up en masse will have moved on to PS5 and XSX.

I certainly don't want to play advocate's devil for EA, but this is still the year of a major pandemic spanning 8 months now where all of entertainment was heavily impacted. Can't really blame them for this, I don't think it would've made much difference anyway.

Why am I getting some faint Warcraft 3: Reforged vibes from this? Like it's basically just a cheap outsource job cash grab to recoup the absolute disaster Anthem was (Yes, you now remember Anthem, I'm sorry.)

How much you wanna bet this scene gets "edited"?

Was kind of hoping that they were going to integrate all the gameplay for one seamless experience. Or at the very least touch things up and standardize the way that Uncharted Collection did.

Yeah I reckon they outsourced the texture work as cheaply as possible and used mod tier addons to add controller support etc, still, having controller integration out the box on PC would be cool.

ctrl+F “Switch”

nevermind. I love these games but I’ve got toddlers, if i can’t carry it with me and start/stop at a moment’s notice I’ll never finish it.
You'd think the Swtich would be a no-brainer, these games aren't exactly gfx powerhouses anymore, even with texture touch-ups etc, would be a pretty sweet deal to get the whole trilogy on a portable, install footprint size might be an issue though?

It is super easy to release the game with an unlocked framerate/res mode though, so the PS5 and XSX will run the game at 4k/60 at least.

Just as a reminder of what you can do with UE3 if you really, really try to put as much effort into it as humanly possible.
Batman: Arkham Knight, obviously....

And that's an open world game, where as ME games had pretty much compact and linear maps with a few bigger ones here and there. Will see if these remasters can compare with this game.

P.S. Sorry for 1080p screens, don't have the time to make 5K ones to make this game really shine.
There's little reason to still use UE3. I don't think it's that hard to port it to a newer Unreal Engine version, like what Gears 5 uses. UE3 is still too outdated. The lighting in those screenshots is sub-par.

Damn that music gets me.

As much as It hypes me, I would've liked all 3 to run with the same engien and gameplay. Have all 3 "games" run seemlessly togheter rather with holes between them.
Also... to have that fun MP do a comeback, but less capped/limited as the orginal was(Higher player count, higher amount of emenies, more varied enemies) and maybe have those cool abilities that are in MP merged over to SP.
That would be a lot of balancing issues I know, but at least that would give the player more stuff to experience with, new or old.

Cool. Awesome. So like, am I just suppose to forget how they completely and utterly betrayed the fans and the core themes of the franchise with that ending? How all of our decisions and all those lessons on achieving the impossible through unity led to that bullshit ending? It may have been 8 years ago, but I still remember how it felt to get slapped in the face after years of anticipation and waiting, and how those pieces of shit condescended and blamed us for not accepting their horrid writing. Yeah no, I'll pass on this.

I saw they put an art book up on the BioWare store that is now sold out. I would like that. So if they can produce more I will buy one.

Yea very true but I doubt a PS4 /XBone release will get the same kind of buzz as a dedicated PS5 / XSX one. Even if the end result is the same.

Perhaps. Still, the Bioshock collection lets you install each game individually. There are solutions, but EA will always be EA I guess.

I hope they revamp in a way that you can play all three games as one, giant story rather than three individual games. Now that would be epic.

For several months now, our dedicated team at BioWare has been working to update the textures, shaders, graphics effects and technical features of our three amazing games.
We're not just going to give you a simple remake of the original games. We will do everything we can to modernize the gaming experience for which the Mass Effect saga is famous, so longtime fans and new players can experience original content in a whole new light. It is truly incredible to see the adventures of Commander Shepard come to life in higher resolution, with increased frame rates and jaw-dropping visual enhancements.

As game developers, we always want our games to transcend their original platforms. This opportunity to remaster the original trilogy means that the fruits of our labor over more than a decade will be able to endure and be experienced by players around the world in an even better form. We will reveal more to you early next year!

In short:

Hey Bioware... If you're reading this... There is one way you can immediately fix the ending, while leaving the games' stories exactly the same. How?

You add a scene at the end of Shepard waking up right next to the Beacon in ME1. It was all a vision of what is to come, and none of it happened yet.

Just make the citadel DLC after the final mission.

Considering how shit BioWare has been over the past five years, my hopes aren’t really high at all for this. They’ll fuck it up somehow I’m sure.
