Is PS5 detectable from outside of an Apartment?

So with the limited Numbers PS5 was distributed to diffrent countrys (100k for Germany) it could cause Peopel who are desprate to get one but cant to maybe try to steal one. So i have an preorder secured and it will get delivered to a Poststore. ( i dont trust my Neigbors from same Apartment complex) I will pick it up there and try to enter my apartment without getting seen. (I assume any big Package will be supicious to certain people.

So with that being said - will someone from an apartment around me be able to detect that somewhere around him is an actuall PS5? Like finding it over Bluetooth or Wifi.. i own a PS4 but not even there iam sure how this is handled..
So is there any info out there regarding my Question?
Iam super nerveous about all that. I will also try to by my PS5 Gamedisks very discrete. To not give away to strangers that iam in fact own a PS5..

Yes they can and this is actually a common tactic criminals employ which is in many ways unsolvable by the police.

Another common thing. Be careful with the shopping bags with logos they give you as well.

Turn off the direct game streaming connection for PS Vita/remote play would be one thing, and name it something very un-PS5-ey. But other than that I don't think there's too much you can do, if they use a packet sniffer I think they'll just see something like it's an entertainment product from Sony.

Actually if they're really clever, the only entertainment product with wifi 6 from Sony is the PS5, afaik

Though if you hard wire to your router you could also keep wifi off...That's probably best if you're paranoid of this in your area.

I don’t think the PS5 should expose anything like that, but I’d imagine there will be options to rename/turn off anything like that.

Btw. A little realism towards human nature is always good, but maybe dial down the paranoia a little bit, lol.
It can. I pick up all my neighbors' consoles and network names on all my smart devices.

Just don't toss the box in plain view and no one should be the wiser. Or don't toss the box and no one should know you have it if it can't be viewed from a window. Hence why I have a film over my living room windows so no one can see my shit after my place was broken into around a decade ago.
Honestly I’d just be worried about porch pirates.
Hence why I'm talking off launch day if my wife has to work. Depending when Microsoft will ship saved my last personal day just in case.

The PS4 allows you to directly connect to it thru WiFi bypassing your network. This is used for RemotePlay. Be aware that on PS4 the network is named with gibberish but starts with PS4-

I do believe you can turn that off tho. Not sure if you can rename it either..

If you are still very paranoid regarding this, get a "Hausratversicherung" and/or invest into a small Security system.. At least you should feel better and in the worst case scenario, you will get back your money from the insurance.

But don't forget to dim your windows.
People still could look into your living room to check if anything valuable is there.
And use the eco mode /power saving mode in the PS5, so the console is completely turned off and not in standby/ quick resume mode.

haha i was aware of the fact that i recieve a good amount of roast for this :messenger_beaming:..
No but seriously , the situation is not as save anymore in germany. but that not neccessary true where i live. But i just want to double check. So yeah i usually hardwire my consoles to my Router anyway. So thats checked. Ill guess the first thing i make is to search the settings for any privacy or emission rules / adjustments.

But i general a 100k units is not much for a Country like Germany. We have 79 Cities with at least 100k inhabitants so that would make ~1200 Consoles per city , but there are alot villiges and smaller towns.. so i would assume that the actuall number per City is much lower - like lower 3digits like..

Order a heap of really bad sex toys and blow up dolls and get them delivered the same day your ps5 is

that way they won’t come into your apartment as they will think your a sexual deviant

if someone breaks into your apartment after that it’s safe to assume gaming is not their agenda...your ass is

Mate... What the hell? Look at your wifi list, it is full of random neighbor's devices. Does this somehow crack open the lives of you and your neighbors? Is there a chance this will happen to your PS5? Hell yes. What if your bedroom is further from your PS5, through more walls, than your neighbor? Does that mean you want to be able to, i dunno, remote play on a Vita (ha) or turn it on remotely from your bedroom, but you don't want it to show up outside your walls? Ehh.

You are lucky! Unlike the competitor, you don´t have to authenticate so often. Keep it offline! Should you buy it at a store, get some cheap tar as well or glue and some black paint, then drop it all over the box.

If you live nearby a farm, get some free feathers. Nothing wrong with a guy carrying a black box covered in feathers.

I have a secure location, heavily armed. Ship your PS5 to me and I will set it up on a lightning fast connection and send you a PSTV to remote play through. Text me to switch discs. If your neighbors attack my position, at least the new neighbors you will have may be more honest.

lmao @ this post. What could a PS5 be worth on ebay at most...a few grand?

So you're going to drive around the streets surfing for wifi signals to find one, then break into a house to get a PS5?

Wouldn't it be easier to break into any random house, steal a few random objects (e.g. laptop, jewellery), then sell them to pay a scalper for a PS5?

Jesus, you'd fail as a thief.

Look, if they want to break into your house they will do it despite if there is a PS5 in there or not. That said these are a few things you could do in general:

- Change the device name to something that doesn't point to what it actually is. This will impact how the device broadcasts itself to Bluetooth and WIFI devices. Same if someone is using a sniffer to detect devices around.

- Be mindful of bags and boxes, both when carrying them in and out your apartment

- Cut your receipts in pieces before throwing them out (including bank and credit card statements)

- Close your windows and doors specially when not at home

- Be mindful of noise that could be heard outside

I hope you don't live in a place where you are really in danger of such things but I wish you good luck anyway.
