Yeah, the ALLM feature. Doesn’t work with Samsung Q95t and PS4, tested it myself. It may need next gen consoles however.

On the x900h Sony set I purchased recently, it is called Auto Picture Mode. You can set it on or off.

"Automatically sets the picture mode based on the content from HDMI devices."

I have that on my Sony 900E too. Only thing it does for me however is recognises a ‘console’ and switches to game mode or vice versa. Does not recognise the granularity of an app vs a game within the console itself.

However 900e is 3yo now, so newer sets may be more advanced, and it may need next gen consoles on top. Will be interesting to see the results.

Do we know the length of the HDMI 2.1 that comes with the PS5 yet? Haven’t been able to find this info anywhere.

Gonna need one a bit longer than 6 feet for my set up.

I've been pulling my hair out on whether or not to jump to a new TV. At this rate I won't get a PS5 till next year, so should I just wait for CES 2021 to see what's coming out by late Spring? I'm not impressed after looking at what's on the market for LCD. The Sony's have great image processing and dimming algorithm, but too few dimming zones so I notice the blooming and transitions. TCL has more dimming zones and is cheaper, but their processing isn't as good and their dimming algorithm isn't up to par. OLED is fantastic, but is on the higher side of what I want to pay and I worry about burn-in. Not sure what to do. I may just say fuck it and buy the 55' LG OLED on Black Friday.

Edit: Also, Samsung is off the list for being way too overpriced to being with.
what tv do you have right now?

it's funny. i went through the same agonizing process of whether or not to buy the tv AFTER i bought it because the damn thing was selling out so fast at amazon. i considered everthing and i mean everything. Went to bestbuy to see if OLED is better. OLED IS better. by a longshot. even the sony oled. but then i asked myself this very simple question, do I want a bigger tv or a better looking tv for almost $2,000 more. the answer was simple.

I say if you are ok with the 55 inch size, go with the LG oled. it has 4 hdmi 2.1 ports which is going to come in handy if you have a sound bar and multiple consoles or PC. i have to give up on eARC because the x900h only has two hdmi 2.1 ports and one of them is eARC.

I also considered waiting until next year, but lets face it, you wont get the black friday prices for these tvs. i got mine for $900 off with the black friday guarantee. that same tv wouldve cost me $2,500 at launch back in july. so lets say if they come out with a better tv next july, you wont be able to afford it until black friday anyway. can you wait a full year? i know i didnt want to.

as for burn in, i saw some youtubers who said burn in isnt an issue, and some who said it might be if you like to game five hours a day. but its mostly related to hud, so if you turn off the HUD when doing long sessions, you will be fine. or just buy it from costco which should come with a 5 year warranty though im not a 100% sure if it covers burn in.

I have a 900e too it is a great tv 4k and HDR on it is a treat

Im really hesitant to upgrade as of the choices now is either cx OLED and Im using tv for gaming the most and it is scary to put 2k dollars investment at least on it burn in is scary to me as I burnt a plasma tv before and I don't want to baby set th TV

the other choice is 900h for HDMI 2.1 features but I feel the consoles will not be 4k 120 fps most of the time and in picture quality it will not be that much of an upgrade

so wait and see approach for me

If I buy a multiplat game on the XSX and it performs less well than the ps5 version, then the developer is at fault. I can walk into any game store with that guarantee in mind. That’s why it’s the best place to play multiplat games unless haptics is your thing.
And that’s coming from someone who’s ordered both
Lacklustre XsX performance could be Microsoft’s fault. Bad SDK, bad api’s, bad o/s, bad hardware setup. Games aren’t in a vacuum, it’s a synergy of all those things.

A basic 1080p 42' Panasonic LCD.

As of right now I can pick up 55' LG CX at Target for $1400. Don't know if that will drop further for Black Friday. Really only want a new TV once the PS5 is in my hands. Could be the middle of next year at this rate"lollipop_disappointed:.

Edit: Will have to look into Costco warranty.

1024gb = 953GiB which is what is actually shown internally. Also you have to hold back a fair amount of the space to cycle into use as other sectors stop working to lengthen the lifespan of the SSD. The external card has roughly 906GiB usable which means roughly 50 is held back to cycle into use to repalce bad sectors. This is standard practice for any SSD of decent quality.

WTF, man. You are so fucking smart and gentleman. :lollipop_downcast_sweat: But they somehow still show "GB" for the ease of how it reads compared to GiB?

Oleds are amazing, but I just didn’t feel like spending that much on a tv, especially since I have kids. I did months of research looking for the perfect HDMI 2.1 tv.

After all that, I impulse bought a Sony 950g for $800 US a month ago and I’m a very happy camper. The jump to 4K, 55 inches and the huge boost in colours/hdr was a game changer for me. I never realized how much detail I was missing.

when a service uses advertising as inflationary as youtube I consider an adblocker as self defense.
About a year ago the adblocker on my browser did not work for a few hours, and I still have bad memories because of the youtube use I did during that time.

Your 2015 tv is already borderline with support, and once the support ends the problems with apps will grow.
I worked on a TV app here in Germany and I doubt we supported TVs that old.

As I said I personally use a cheap dongle which can be easy and cheap replaced if its time is over without having to exchange the rest of the system.

Man, that LG stopped updating since like late 2016 as I remember. But my 2016 Sony XD70 is still updating even few weeks ago since 4 years! That's another reason why I'll stick with Sony going forward.

oh my. You are in for a huge upgrade regardless of whether or not you go for oled. 4k gaming alone will blow you away. Hdr and the wider color gamut has come a long way.

I'd say wait for black Friday or even Christmas sales if you aren't getting a ps5 for some reason. If you lost out on the preorders, just go to bestbuy at launch like a few hours early and they will give you a ticket.

Just don't go to gamestop or target, bestbuy gets the most launch day consoles. I remember everyone at my bestbuy got a ps4 are midnight. And there were well over 100 people in the line without preorders.

Ah my young padowan, let me explain.

GPU use 40 % of the CU if they are lucky, so you use 35-45 % of the CU per clock if its good, rest of the time its waiting for data, clicking its heels feeling hungry but hot....

Numbers artibiary, or are they ?

Increase instructions per clock by 22 %, then you have 22 % more performance in games.

Increase delivery of data to CU by 10 %, you have 10 % more performance in games.

You are quite correct if this was a mining competition, but games have huge delays, ray tacing can half or even quarter the power of a game, what if you could do it 2 x better ? How does that work ?

Apparently the 900e does 120hz at 1080p anyway. Can’t see too many games being 120 and 4k at the same time. One of the XsX influencers somewhere mentioned their 4k tv automatically switched to 1080p 120 with Dirt.

May be no big deal in the end.

Jesus Wept. No wonder Stadia is dead. This is what happens when you hire suits instead of people that know the industry.

People watch Dr Disrispect because he is the draw card, not the game. Indeed HE creates exposure and sales for the title and should be compensated.

I’ve seen some stupid shit, but this takes the cake. And I’ve seen Phill Spencer.

Someone in the youtube comments told me that the PS5 was already a flop because 3rd parties didn’t support it and that no third parties had released PS5 footage......

That’s some top tier reality distortion.

Does anyone here have the Sony 900H TV? I ordered mine from amazon and its finally arriving tomorrow. I am excited but this thing took 12 days to get here and i spent them youtubing the tv and now im scared it wont be a massive jump from my KS8000.

Thankfully i bought a 75 inch one which alone should be a big upgrade from my 55 inch ks8000, but I hope the colors are better too. VRR better work at launch. I bought this tv just because I didnt want to miss out on hdmi 2.1 features.

They've released the 4K@120Hz update this week, with VRR and ALLM coming on another firmware update during Winter.

Both consoles are 310-350W so no matter how much GPU you have, you cannot exceed that TDP. Having a tool that flexes the TDP between GPU and CPU could make you exceed the design TDP

These numbers are not the TDP.

Please don’t spread yet more misinformation...

Just a heads up for people! I went by GameStop today to see if maybe they had some Dualsense out early like Walmart. They didn’t, but the guy there did say that people who have preordered any PS5 accessories will be able to come pick them up on October 30th. That’s not just the dualsense, but every accessory. My roommate preordered an extra dualsense and I ordered the Pulse 3D headphones, so I’m stoked to be able to try those out next week (minus the main features of both of course haha)!

Actually seeing a musician like you picking up Pulse 3D gives me more confidence on my preorder of that one. But then I remember that most of the audiophiles tend to have a library of headsets. :messenger_winking_tongue: Would love to have a thread with people sharing a variety of headsets even non-gaming ones through DualSense 3.5 aux jack.

Gamers don't say anything about the ads: "Yup, we knew it. All of us at 2K knew gamers would love tv ads just like the real thing. It's all about satisfying what gamers want, and all of us at 2K are looking for you sports fans"

Gamers get pissy at forced ads: "Hmmmm, we swear we didn't mean it. Something must have went wrong with the game code when we pressed it to discs"

If you think about it, if they gonna force ads, then provide the game for free and no one will complain, or at like $10-20 only.

Sorry to derail again, but I am having a time with my X900H after this latest update. I set the hdmi to standard and everytime I play HDR GAME ON ps4 I lose video signal if i switch around the hdmi settings or sound settings i get picture if i unplug and plug the hdmi cable in i get signal but as soon as I start a hdr game again it does the same thing. Never had this problem before this update.

So....What, lets say 3, games would/are you getting release day? I'm still undecided but leaning towards:

  • Miles Morales (Looking Noice in 4k/RT)
  • Sackboy (Wife/Kids)
  • Watch Dogs: Legion (Dunno tbh)
Not Really a Godfall/Demon's Souls kinda guy.

I'll buy most of the games, honestly, but won't rush by buying them all day one. I'll start playing Astro's Playroom while I download Spiderman MM. After beating it I'll head for AC Valhalla. After that I'll play Watch Dogs Legion. But gonna buy most of the games, it'll be crowded and I might not come online that often in here.

Immortals Fenyx Rising, Sackboy, Destruction Allstars, Godfall for the 2020 phase.

the biggest thing with HDMI 2.1 is VRR. you are right that no game will do 4k 120 fps on consoles, but vrr is huge because games WILL drop frames like they do every gen. especially the 120 fps modes.

also if you have a 3080 then you can game in 4k 120 fps. especially now with dlss 2.0.

i'd ask this in a subreddit for that tv.

Gonna be Demons Souls for me although the more I see of Godfall, I'm going to have to dive into that right off the bat as well. Then I've got Spider Man and Cyberpunk. I'll transition into Assassins Creed and Watch Dogs. By then, should be a ton more games out and I'll just keep on chugging!

Haha! I’d be interested in a thread like that as well.

My main choice of headphones are my Sennheiser HD650. I’m sure the audio quality is much higher with them, but they do require some sort of amp to be driven correctly. I’m very excited to see how the Pulse handles 3D audio, and if they do happen to be “tuned” for that like Sony claims.
