There isn't an HBO Max app on LG OLEDs so I have to use the PS4/5 for that. Everything else though I use the built-in apps.
It's a mixed bag out there; but there are also home theater setups where it's a pain to get 5.1 using TV apps. ARC and all that doesn't always work well for everyone.

Also some people game on monitors... just nice to have options.

Why not use this instead and let the console have a rest? Even supports HDMI 2.1:

Removable face plate, with buttons that you can mix/add/remove, but of course Sony then can not make money off those streaming services if they did that. Those are product placements. Sony is certainly not doing it for consumer friendliness, and more than other controllers by other manufacturers streaming boxes.

Of course you're going to come back, and say those buttons can get lost, and the kids might take the thing apart, etc. Of course, just like the batteries can get removed, and messed with.

Sony has some good engineers, I'm sure they could come up with a good solution. I know I could, and I'm not even an engineer.
Removable face place is a good ideia.

Exactly. Not on the Desktop, but inside another app, that you have to enter to get to the service you want. Same as the PS4. An extra unnecessary layer.

That's all I have to say on the matter, as I'm just repeating myself.
On PS4 you have to download each App... I used both YouTube and Netflix and both had to be downloaded before use... it is just a fast icon to download the app and not integrated like it looks with PS5.

Why would a guy with a smart tv use PS5 to watch these?

The PS remote works quicker than most TV remotes. Comes naturally to us gamers vs TV remote I have to look for buttons.
PS4 scrolls really quickly through the media...

The Apps are also different depending on the device.. I.E when Ps4 first launched the Netflix APP was similiar to the PC app and superior to most of the TV versions of the app.

Maybe a negative about this though is the TV APPS (at least mine do)support dolby digital.. not sure if I get that running through the PS Apps, I will have to test that tonight...

- Most powerful console ever, 25TF (a minimum of 40 fps, it's math)
- Fastest SSD (VA offers 2.5x multiplier, effective 18GB/s, plus efficiencies around PRT and VRS, so it's like 36GB or more)
- Smart Delivery (it installs the best version for your system, no questions asked, no additional money like phony)
- 120fps with Ray Tracing at up to 8k (if developers are not lazy)
- Dolby3D, amazing sound and compatible with all your speakers, no need for proprietary shit
- Proprietary expansion card, to ensure maximum compatibility (and much better than opening your console every day to switch the SSD)

Neat, all it need now is actually the thing that matter most and by far, aka the games.

Some apps are going to come pre-installed... they will almost certainly still be "apps." They'll need to be updated just like they are today.

The blog just said that you don't have to go to the PSN store anymore; sounds like one place to download / use all media apps.. but it's incredibly unlikely every app will be pre-installed.. I'd hope not lol

YouTube is integrated more than other apps as is Twitch.. but I'd be shocked if I don't have to download something like Hulu separately; would be weird/kinda dumb.

That's not even a device that you can buy without being a developer lol

Before you get too excited, know that it’s a developer device. Like its predecessor, the ADT-2, it’s possible you’ll never see one officially available for purchase. After all, the ADT-2 didn’t exactly spawn a wave of new tiny Android TV devices (unless you count Nvidia’s chunky new Shield TV tube).

But yes there are a million different options for this.. my consoles already reserve one of my HDMI ports.. I have too many things to own a dedicated media streamer.

But that you described is just like PS4.

Not what the PS.Blog is trying to to say imo.

"Within the Media space, you’ll no longer need to download entertainment apps through PS Store — it’s all in the Media space. Creating dedicated Game and Media spaces for the PS5 user experience will make it fast and easy to switch between gaming and entertainment content whenever you want. "

All apps on PS4 needs to be downloaded via PS Store... the icon on media is just to start the download on PS Store.

I don't mind the option, but would rather give the console a rest. But you can mate your bluetooth headset with your tv. So, you can have like a bluetooth heaphones mated to the screen, but not sure if it can have 2. I use a wire on the Sony, but not all TV's have 3.5 aux out as it seems, then use a splitter for 2 headphones:

I use 2 of those for 10m to the bed (it's 6-7 meters away from the tv, might upgrade to 65-75" X900H).

And get any kinda headphones, and enjoy with your wife at full volume without rattling the house or getting police calls from your neighbors.

Surprisingly, the surround feels pretty decent even after all those cheap ass extensions and using Sony Xperia Z3 headphone, pretty cheap ones now you get them in Aliexpress, never felt any small headphones to have such good bass and quality due to them having big and clear drivers:

Get a Roku player that has 3.5mm female port built into the remote (like the DS). Easy peasy...all your apps (except HBOMax) in one place and a snappy user interface.

[/URL]

I have not had good experiences with built in TV apps...all have been buggy and clunky. Roku (the boxes anyway) at least has a consistent operating system for software teams to work on...not sure if its the same across a gazillion tv brands.

Likely just means you don't have to "fake buy" them and won't have that stupid thing where it acts like it's a licensed product and sometimes can't start them without checkign DRM. It's a better UX, but where in the world does it say they still aren't "apps"?

Having them all pre-installed would just be silly. Better UX != not apps.

I have actually been eyeing the new Chromecast with google tv but more so for the smart home integration. We've got an older apple tv, firesticks, multiple smart tvs and consoles.

So the reason I haven't purchased anything else yet is because it's mostly redundant. Really the only app that has forced me to use the PS4 is HBO Max otherwise we're already covered by numerous other devices, although like I said I may grab one of thew new chromecasts for the family room but my PS5 will likely remain my streaming device in my office.

Before the pandemic we have FIFA play session at launch at the hall on my office... everyday... the company brought the consoles and the 4 controllers to everybody plays.

Curious enough it was Xbox 360 before... today is PS4.

Everybody just play FIFA... every single day... I even tried to take some other games from home to them experience but not... FIFA FIFA FIFA.

I think it's more related to country/culture. Ronaldo is Europe, and Messi is Argentina, both coutries are fans of PS.

Wouldn't be surprise to see a soccer guy from Mexico being an Xbox guy mostly

Even better, the series S can do all of this no problem you just press a magic button to change the resolution.

Hong Kong is not independent, it's within China's grip.
Absolutely correct. Hong Kong IS China and has been since the British handed over control. That's part of what all the unrest there is about since China had agreed to be largely hands off of Hong Kong and the people there but has been gradually inserting itself more and more and impacting the citizens there more and more. So Hong Kong is definitely considered "China."
