Next Gen Delayed By Price Wars Not Covid-19

Launch isn't going to make or break either console. MS has been putting out a steady stream of info and Sony has started to pick back up again with some new videos. My guess is they are going to be supply constrained and they are trying to figure out how to campaign a launch in a CoVid world. Long lines and big crowds at stores are probably not the publicity they want.

I don't get why Sony even think MS is a valid competitor, considering how they've crushed them in all but 1 generation so far. I think they're trolling at this point.

Does when the price is announced really matter all that much? Early adopters are going to buy (or not buy) when they hit store shelves, regardless. If those early adopters have stashed away more money than they cost, they'll have extra cash for other things. If they have stashed away less, they'll have to wait a bit. I don't see the big deal. If they had announced the price a year ago, it wouldn't have changed things in any substantive way.

MS may win this because Sony have a lot more to show and the pressure is on them to get more information about their console out.
For better or worst, MS have shown so much more compared to Sony. I'm sure I'm not the only one losing faith in PS5 because of the lack of confidence by Sony to announce anything.
Nope, what should they announce? They showed what games will exactly look like on it. They showed the features of the new controller. They showed both of their consoles. What do you want them to show other than the price/release? There is no real pressure on them at all from a marketing perspective. Most people seem happy with what they've seen so far.

2 months til launch and we don’t know the price, the launch games, ui, hands on console impressions/ tear down, or the exact day of launch.
But that can all be blamed on the flu...I mean covid

Can't really say I'm too bothered by the price not being revealed. I'm guessing it will be around $500 and I'll have the money for it. I'm more irked over not knowing what is coming out this year for the ps5 ( and switch).

This fucking deadlock is annoying as shit. I'm about done with this shit and leaning on building a new PC.

I've never been so turned off. This is anti-hype.

I'm really expecting a delay.

Was talking with my wife about next gen last night, and we can't recall a launch ever that we are this close to that we have so little information. 2 months out and we have 1) No release date 2) No Price Point 3) No confirmation of Launch titles 4) No confirmation of game prices/controllers etc.

This is ridiculous, Sony trying to get you to sign up for the chance to maybe preorder something that you know nothing about. I have every intention of buying a console, but this has gotten dumb IMO. If you're product will be legit, name your price and we'll buy it. I will buy a PS5, if you're 100 bucks more then an XBS? I'll still buy it cause M$ doesn't give me the games you do, and I can just play those on PC. I'd argue that the route M$ has been taking with their company and trying to be a service more then a console, they aren't really even competing anymore in the traditional sense with Sony. Your household can play everything owning a Playstation and a PC, no need for this game of chicken anymore.

Don't see how them announcing the price will stop scalpers :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Scalpers will only be a problem if their isn't enough units to sell out the gate
There will not be enough units we all know that. We know the more value of a pre order the more scalpers. Sony is raising the value of pre orders by waiting and make this a 1 shot deal. You miss the first minute of pre orders your at the mercy of scalpers and retailers "bundles" at big mark up. There will be no round 2 of pre orders being so close to launch. Being close to the holidays you get more people in the pre order queue roulette. It might be good for Sony and scalpers but bad for many loyal fans who will get the shaft from this last second pre order crap.

Good grief. Of course covid has had an impact. It’s a global pandemic that’s caused major organisations and infrastructure to slow almost to a halt in some cases. Both consoles would have been priced long ago in a normal year 🙄

It could be price-related, but at this point, I don't think price is the reason they're being oddly quiet leading up to launch. If the PS5 is $700 and the XSX is $600, delaying the announcement of those prices isn't going to benefit either company. Customers won't like either price whether they're announced today or 24 hours before launch -- and I think both Sony and Microsoft are well aware of that.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced that the reason we're not hearing more launch details is because the games aren't there yet. It's not impossible to sell a console with only 7 or 8 games available at launch, however, having such a small amount of software is a bigass problem from a marketing standpoint. Especially if half of those games are going to be available and cost less on PS4/One. Why would people spend >$500 to play games when they can spend $60 to play those exact same games?

On top of software just not being ready, I think the games that are ready are not next-gen enough for either company. I'm sure COD, AssCreed, and the annual sports games will play fine, but let's be honest; people want next-gen to look like a class above current-gen. If the 'big' games available at launch just look slightly sharper than current-gen games, that's a big problem; especially since all of those big third-party games will be available on current hardware.

That is why I said in another thread Andrew House did it right. He was like here is the ps4 it is kick go buy it. No shadow games no messing around just here it is see how awesome it is go buy it for 399.99. Revealed in February price and pre orders in June so if someone missed they had a second chance at one. His guys loved games unlike the suits who took over a juggernaut.

I'm not complaining.

If both companies are trying to get the lowest price possible, then I can wait even longer for Sony and MS to reveal the price.

Right now, I want them to reveal the BC features and tech for the PlayStation 5.

Looking at it from a manufacturing point of view, Sony will get a better price for their GPUs from AMD.

Why?

Economy of scale.

Sony sold 120 million of their console this gen. MS sold 50 million. Based on that, Sony can force a better deal from AMD vs Microsoft.

If PS5 will be priced at 400$ Sony got it in the bag, Ms knows it and the gen is pretty much over for them in terms of userbase. Sony also waiting for Ms to see if they can raise it to $500 and get away with higher price if XSX is $500 or higher.

Don't care to be honest, not buying the PS5 until demon's souls launches anyway.

A new nvidia card and cyberpunk will keep me busy until then.
What will really keep you busy is dealing with driver issues of new hardware AND Cyberpunk 2077 using DX12 (y)

I'm sure a couple lines of code buried in Windows could cause AMD a lot of grief on a much larger scale, lol. I also imagine MS relationship with AMD goes well beyond xbox.

PS5 is gonna succeed no matter what. It's got a history of making a great platform. I don't really understand the marketing for PS5, but it's working. Hype is at astronomical levels even without knowing anything.

MS is the underdog so they have to try harder to convince people to pick up the XSX instead of the PS5. And frankly they've done a terrible job at that.

Does it really matter. What do you gain if the price is announced now, last week or a month from now. You still can't purchase the damn things.
You all just want another thread to console war over.
It's a strange year. Suck it up princesses.
You can secure a pre order jesus people is it that hard to understand. Every day it is delayed is more competition for pre orders. I swear this must be the first hardware launch for some of you. Price = pre orders that means securing a system. This is not a phone launch with a more supply than demand on the Sony side.

Microsoft are launching early in November. Also they have a new console which many casuals won't even be aware of which hasn't even been announced, so they're going to have to pipe up soon. Sony can afford to sit back and wait for them.

Dude it really does not matter when the price is announced and the pre-ordered start, the scalpers will jump on this either way. I have enough funds to buy this even with a mark-up or bundle so I am not worried at all and a lot of other early adopters feel the same way because they expect this.

Limited units and scalpers are always a problem at every console launch.

the original price They decided must be around 600 or more, after the pandemic they want to wait and see how Economic recovery Is doing, They do have backup plan now to just release games on PC if the pricing they wanted was 700, nvidia just crushed their dreams, probably they should just give up then. Only the fanatics of console gaming would buy a 700 dollars console.

Given that Microsoft and Nvidia collaborated on the directstorage RTX IO solution to work with the RTX series graphics cards, and the cards most likely to be compared by value to an XsX are the RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 - costing between $499 and $699. So, even if the RTX IO card is cheap, it will still be another $150 if provided with the cheapest 500GB SSD they can add. So I would say the XsX is competing to undercut a $650 RTX 3070 solution that probably has a 50% performance advantage over the XsX until software matures on XsX.

From that info, I suspect Microsoft want to charge $549 or higher - which I think is their break even point - but are maybe willing to eat upto $150 dollars a unit - hence the smaller production to minimise loss leading losses - and ideally want to be able to charge $399 for the S model with a bundled controller - but are willing to charge $250 without bundling a controller.

I'm 41 years old. Definitely my first launch.
You will be playing on your shiny new console of choice when it matters most.

Sony was very smart to keep exclusive games a priority for their console. The thing about the future possibly being the Cloud in the next 10 years is that Sony has a cloud service they are working on too, it's not like they put all their eggs in one basket.

I think there are compelling reasons to own a PS5 or Switch, but I really don't understand who the XSX is for.

Sony only has to announce the date. The price or games won’t make much difference.

They got this on lockdown. They’ve been more realistic with their specs while MS has made the same mistake they have every gen and tried to overpack with the tech Which will put them in a bind price wise.

I really don't get it why series X could beat the ps5 price when series S is a thing and the BOM is more priced. I have great difficult to understand this bizzarre conviction. That not make absolute sense.

They mention PS5 will have exclusives that won't be on PC, but if you're patient..

Really really patient. Plus there's no guarantee that the ports will be good. I mean we saw what happened with Horizon Zero Dawn.

Can’t Sony just say it’s 499-399 respectively already? There’s no possibility in my view that MS would undercut that and 599-499 it’s too much

I still wonder if things like an early price announcement are that important anymore.
Phones cost like twice as much as consoles and usually come packed with a bunch of new features too, and they tend to get announced and priced like a month or 2 before release.
Hmm I agree. People should've gotten so used to it now. All we need to know that a certain item we want is coming out, and we put a rough estimate to its price based on history, and put aside some money for it.

Many people are into gaming these days and this generation grew up with games. So we know what to expect.

I have my money ready anyway :)

They're probably waiting to see how to price the Series S. If PS5 digital is 399, they'd want to go 299. If it's 450, they'd want to go 350. And so on. No matter what, the SS will be cheaper, but by how much is the question. They'd want to profit as much as possible and still sell the cheapest of the bunch.

leads to fear. Fear leads to xbox.
I don't care about the hand held market. Most of us just want to secure a pre order. Each day that goes by raises the value of the pre order drawing more and more scalpers. I really want a scalpers paradise sure. Sony needs to announce they are the dominant force in the market and need to set pricing.
The switch is a hybrid, how people havent figured that out yet is beyond me.

if anything sony being the market leader they dont have to release price first. How many surveys have I seen where ps5 dominates the charts over the series x, sony literallt could announce the price a month before release and itll still outsell the series x

This is such a strange console launch. Normally by now I would've had both preordered and paid off. Assuming they come out in November were 8 weeks away with no price or date which is insane.

I'm wondering if they're more expensive than expected and are both nervous to be the first to announce the price due to the current financial climate.

Both Sony and MS have delayed announcing the price of their consoles which leaves many gamers confused.

The Truth of the matter is, I don't think It's the Covid-19 pandemic that's delaying these console reveals and events.
I believe both are waiting for the other to announce a price first.

MS may win this because Sony have a lot more to show and the pressure is on them to get more information about their console out.

Yeah that's called an opinion. If you can't create a thread without stating your opinions as facts in the title then perhaps you shouldn't be creating threads.
