Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 | We Don't Need Roads

I'm guessing it's taking time to gather cloud data on things like real-time traffic, weather, and satellite image data for the area you'll be starting from which is not stored on your local device.

SSD speeds don't have as much affect with MSFS2020 as a good connection does. I just have the game on a SATA SSD, but have a really good connection (over 600Mbps) and my load times are considerably lower than what you're describing. While load times on my connection typically are under 30 seconds in an area like my hometown where map data is lower quality and there is no photogrametry data available, New York takes over 2 minutes on the same connection for me to load with all the live features active.

The 150GB you installed covers planes, texture data for trees, the hand-crafted items like airports, world objects the game uses to fill in blanks, etc, but does not include the satellite image data or photogrametry data which would require petabytes of storage to keep locally. Large centers like Tokyo, and especially areas with better satellite data and photogrametry like New York will take longer to load in dependent on your connection speed. New York is a very complex area in terms of geometry and has some of the best map data available.
I'm on a 200 Mbps connection, so I didn't think that was causing the slow load times. I'll see if disabling real-time traffic helps a bit, as I don't really need that feature for how I play the game.

I even tried precaching NYC as per the instructions here , but it still took a while. Things are definitely quicker when loading into the countryside though.

How do you complete the training scenario 'first solo flight'? It doesn't recognise my left turns and they're no on screen markers to indicate where to turn and no map. Also I can't turn them on in the settings. It's greyed out.

Edit - I figured it out. Was turning too late for base.

So can I upgrade my standard gamepass version to a premium? Or do I need to buy the full base game outside of gamepass to do that?

I am having Zero luck getting this game to even open. I am on game pass and when I start the download it downloads close to 1tb and then it says it is 100%. It then says to hit play. After a bit I get a black screen with a mouse pointer and nothing else happens. I have uninstalled the game or whatever that near 1gb file several times and every single time it does the same thing. From my research, what it downloads is the launcher, but it never launces. When I check task manager it says it is running, but there is no network or hard drive usage. So it basically is doing nothing.

Any ideas or suggestions. Been trying for 2 days to get it to go beyond a black screen with a mouse pointer.

I played for like 5 hours last night. Toured around Florida. West coast to east coast. Got the hang of a dual engine plane. Was able to learn most of the panels and functions. Going for less and less assists. Game is straight fire.

They took the bigger developed countries first to use a more accurate representation, the rest uses hand made assets that could be closer to the countries archictecture style.
It's not about architecture style. Whole districts are made from normal houses instead of 10+ floors blocks of flats. Warsaw is more of less correct in that regard. Ground texture is also terribly low res, but that's because bing maps satellite data for Poland is horrible. There is no other map that bad in that regard.
There you have difference between google and bing:

That building in Flight Simulator is single floor house.

Still hoping someone here can tell me how voice chat works in the game.

-Do I need to turn off AI response?
-Does the AI understand my voice commands?
-How does chat work with other players around, is it proximity based?
-Is it push to talk or just voice activated?

Guys are killing me. Work has been killer. No time to fly. Keep up the screens so my hard on can maintain its veracity.

I probably won't play this even when it comes to Series X. Sims aren't really my thing, but I love looking at all the spectacular screen shots you guys are providing.

I absolutely love this game even though it's highly unlikely I'll ever play it. Anyone doing a run over Los Angeles ? I'd love to see it.

How does coming in to land work? I set a destination but the ai who I have set to handle the atc didn't say anything. Should he be requesting that I can join the landing pattern or something? It's kinda moot anyway as after twenty minutes flying across France from my departure airport I ended up stressing the plane and it calling it a crash anyway lol.

Downloads one terabyte?? I thought install was like 120 GB?

If anyone happens to take a tour around the Valley Isle (Maui....OGG), don’t be shy about posting screenshots. 😉 Curious how Haleakala/Upcountry is modeled.

this was one of the first flights i was able to land on. Super short flight and it was rough. The landing was a butt pucker. I hit the building and broke my landing gear a few times after. It’s amazing how quickly you get used to it tho.

LA not surprisingly looks amazing. The bottom one is captured in 'live weather'.

Cities in general look mind-blowing from the air but I still enjoy more flying over natural wonders.

Thank you so much for those amazing screen shots of LA. It's so cool to recognize many of the various towers in DTLA and the fact to see it with Live weather in a freaking game is way past Next Gen.

P.S. if you were to capture Live Weather this week it would likely reflect hotter than the bowels of Hell. Our Live usually fantastic weather is really sucking ballz this week.

I got really dissapointed today with locations quality!

Could not care less about the Towns representation, but landscape in my head was very important for MFS 2020 to reproduce accurately. That said, i am very disspaointed with how Atolls and near shore Reefs are displayed in the game.
Made quick comparison In-game vs BING maps:

Takes a lot from the beauty of such places. Blackshark.Ai definetly should improve their algorithms not to cut valuable imagery

It just came out and shouldn't be expected to render the entire world better than anything else, ever. It does the vast majority extremely well.

What I find unacceptable is that visual data was completely deleted! They just needed to leave bing maps flat image inside atolls and near shores as it is on map, this would be much better

This is just first iteration. It'll likely be a different animal in a year in terms of accuracy.

I need some help.

So I paste a coordinate into the search bar but it doesn't put a pin in there exactly, it seems to change the numbers sightly and give me somewhere else close by I think? I then set it as a destination and it says 3.5 NM distance but when I load in my destination marker is showing 50nm away but the navlog is showing what I think is the correct destination? But there's no icon visible there but I have them turned on.

Any ideas? It's annoying as I be literally struggle to find any location that isn't a major city. I just can't do it.

I was about to come in this thread and say some choice words about PC Gaming, then the game finished downloading its million pieces and I was able to fly a plane for a few minutes.

To say this is overwhelming for a beginner is an absolute understatement.

To my best knowledge you can't put custom GPS coordinates at the moment. There's a way to bypass it:

Oh ok, thanks. I thought I saw some content somewhere correcting that video and saying all you need to do is paste in the search bar. Seems I was wrong as I can't find that anywhere.

Thanks!

I've about had it with this game. One flight takes forever and I've not managed to complete one yet. This time I'd landed and was taxing to the parking spot when boom, it loses connection with my controller. Weird I thought so I reconnect it and, blam, crash to desktop. No successful flight for me and another fifteen mins loading back in.

It looks amazing for sure but wow is it buggy. That's not the first crash I've had, not by a long shot. Gonna persevere for now but not sure for how much longer if this keeps up.

Edit, it's my Xbox controller batteries. And it seems that reconnecting and disconnecting a controller rapidly for a few minutes causes a crash. Ah well, wish they had just held on for thirty more seconds I would have had my first complete flight in my log book.

All the assists plus skipping setup and taxi make FS2020 much more user-friendly than, say, FSX.

Terrible. For anyone who wants to see quality content for this game, I recommend this channel:

VFR at night....is cool.

Lads, get yourself a flight stick. It's transformative.

Just been doing the weekly landing challenge and absolutely nailed it second go. If someone manages to do it with a controller or keyboard then hats off.

This is going to be my go to chill out/hangover game for a very long time.

And if you have the capable hardware then do yourself a favour and just stick it on max settings 4k. IMO this is not a game that benefits greatly from higher framerates.

Is the consensus that bing is holding the game back?

Don't see how that's the case. If not for the map data then the game wouldn't be possible.

The areas of the map that need to be touched up will be touched up in time by the developers and if not then by the community. There is already this amazing mod London:

This is just the start, flight sims thrive for a long time because of the community. It would be impossible for the devs to go over the whole globe with a fine tooth comb.

Once I finally got this thing up and running, I’ve been soo impressed.
Just playing on my 17in laptop at 1080p, but it’s still crazy.

I’ve done exactly what everyone does when they boot up this game.
Went straight to my local airport and keep trying to find my house.
Is there a map to look at while your flying? I assume so, what button is it?

Trying to play without any tutorials with a controller.

considering going really deep at some point and getting a HOTAS setup.

Find the GPS coords for your house. Use that in the map when starting a flight.

Why is that footage of the guy moving the camera around at ground level?

This is a flight simulator. We should be more concerned about how things look from the sky and the Orbx mod is an improvement over the stock game. If it's worth the price of admission or not... depends on how much you like London enough I guess.

They're reusing asset assets from 1998 and charge you 1/10 of the price of the base game for it. Not the best deal for a few garbage looking buildings.

I'm sure there will be an expansion that will do London justice. This ain't it.
