Jez Corden: Don't Expect Xbox to follow Playstation's Exclusive Style Next-Gen

Of all people, I honestly didn't expect him to say this. For those of you who don't know, Jez is a Windows Central writer & a Xbox Insider. When asked about the quality of exclusive games that have come to Playstation this generation & wishing Xbox would improve on the quality of their next gen exclusive games, Jez says he doesn't think Xbox will be able to deliver that type of content to gamers and you should get a Playstation instead.

Yeah... Xbox focus will probably be more and more on gaas... And he is right, there's nothing wrong with that. Companies can and should do different things, if someone wants casual family oriented games they have Nintendo to go for, if they want story driven games, Sony has a lot in store.

Microsoft is pushing gaas, trying to find their thing, I think people should praise them for their initiative and be hyped about the fact that we have 3 rich companies betting more and more on video games!

Also, each one having a different direction, doesn't mean that they can't eventually have similar types of games being developed.

Wow pretty surprising statement coming from Jez considering how favorable he is toward Xbox.
Considering what he said I think it can be based on 3 scenarios:
1. Microsoft doesn't want to invest a lot in their studios (highly unlikely considering they've buying here and there)
2.MS new strategie is the invest in smaller games but more frequent publishing(highly probable considering gamepass)
3.There's some kind of inherent problem between Ms and their studios(probable but exactly as probable as Sony and Nintendo)

So it is probably more a shift toward smaller but more frequent games to keep gamepass interesting.Which seems to be, considering their shift of vision, the most interesting way for them if they can manage to make those games interesting enough.
There can be some downside though because it seems like studios will have a much tighter planning. But it can also easily recoup the cost of a comercially failed game which isn't really the case for sony games for example.

I just hope they can pull some great bigger games from time to time simply because i'd like to eat at a good restaurant once a month rather than going to Mcdonald every 2 days (not saying htey will churn out bad games but reduced dev time and smaller ambition seems a given in this scenari).

Good if I want a Sony game I'll get a PS5. I rather see xbox make games in areas Sony neglects like RPGs. I don't want a cheap knock off of what Sony does. Have fun warriors.
We all know ps5 wont have any rpgs
"""""""quality"""""""

7/10 games that get 10/10 scores by reviewers that barely review Gamedesign or gameplay and only really review how a game looks and how "cinematic" it is.

thats right the same reviewers that punish gems like crackdown 3 and bleeding edge, life its unfair man

nah, I'm just not a braindead fanboy who eats up these mediocre games and expects actually good Gamedesign from "quality" games.

know what's not good Gamedesign? when the first 30 to 40 minutes of your game consists of holding the left stick forward for half of it and watching wannabe hollywood cutscenes for the other half

Way to scrub the context.

Yes because games avowed, fable and inexile next rpg will be small lol. The gamepass FUD is so thick these days.

If Xbox is giving their developers autonomy then yes we should be able to expect those types of games from likes of Obsidian and Playground w/ fable

Or was that a lie?
Who says a rpg needs to be a cinematic experience lol. A great rpg can tell a story with out the Sony formula. The lie is moving the goal posts to knock off of Sony games.

Person: lists cinematic linear single player games, a genre that Microsoft pretty much doesn't make games in

Jez: "don't expect MS to make games like that next generation"

GAF: shocked pikachu face

In other news, the earth is round. Microsoft mainly make less cinematic single player campaigns, and pretty much all their games have a big MP focus. That's just what they do. If you want kiddy platformers you go nintendo, if you want cinematic linear single player games you go sony, if you want multiplayer and less linear games you go microsoft.

I don't like linear cinematic single player games, hence me not having bought a PS4.

edit: Oh and I see OP conveniently left the context out where Jez even confirms exactly what I just said lol.

So much concern!

I think Fable can potentially be great, some talented folk at Playground Games and I’m happy they are not like 343, Coalition and Turn 10 in just a singular IP set up.

Given the amount of staff at 343 in particular I used to think why couldn’t a separate team there make something else to fill the portfolio gap and possibly stop the predictability of releases.

Can’t say I’m thrilled by Jez Cordens comments but it is what it is I guess. Subscription gaming is their focus.

The two preeminent software houses in the world are Nintendo and Sony

They put out consistent "best in class" videogames on the reg

Nobody can touch them(or ever will)

One is like the pixar/Disney studios wing(Nintendo) and the other is like the Marverl Star Wars wing(Sony)

Everybody else pales, but I have Hope's that Microsoft can be the Universal one day, they need to stay the course and good things will happen for them

You get what you pay for, people expect to play top quality blockbusters and pay 10$ a month? this is game pass strategy and quality, Halo is their biggest blockbuster and we all saw how the game looks like

Poor quality response.

Halo always has been, and always will be, a top quality blockbuster, despite what you may believe.

Furthermore, buyers of Halo are going to be playing it and having fun LONG after Sony users have completed their one and only play through of whatever latest single player walkathon they've had to shell out 60 quid for.

Engagement. Value for money. Some people like that kind of stuff!

No gameplay, No Gameplay, and No Gameplay. But based off a CGI trailer we can assume these will be fantastic
I did not see gameplay in the horizon 2 trailer but give that team the benefit of the doubt. I trust obsidian entertainment on a big budget rpg same with inexile. They are top notch just under funded. Call me when Sony opens up some rpg studios be nice return to for them.
