I'm curious what it takes on the developers part to support it. If anything holds it back, it will be 3rd parties not really using it.

But I dunno.. logically I'd assume games already are designed around 3d sound stages.. placing objects in 3d space that produce sounds.. it's just that there's no processing power currently dedicated to actually accurately producing those sound stages.

I think they only need to map the place where the sounds emitted, as the tempest 3D is meant to raytrace hundreds of sources and also add the effect of the surrounding (convolution reverb?).

It starts with 1st and EA games, EA are masters in sounds, honestly, and DICE are among the first to confirm utilizing the tempest engine, but to what extent?

I honestly don't give a shit how cutscenes look either way.. I am interested in what the hardware can do. Claiming "What you are seeing is running on PS5" and then showing stuff that includes video files isn't a lie, but it's misleading.. I personally was certainly mislead.

I've gone back and checked what was put up on the screen and it was ... "All game footage you are about to see from this point forward in the show has been captured from Playstation5 systems."

So first up it's somewhat open to interpretation what "game footage" means and then if a game uses pre-rendered video and seamlessly integrates that with gameplay then the sum of that footage is "game footage" isn't it?

I'm not all that bothered. I think the point is this is what the games running on PS5 look like (cut scene or gameplay) *and* more importantly this isn't PC footage, this is stuff all these devs have running on PS5 hardware. Why they wanted to make that distinction is now pretty clear.

The real question is if the bluetooth in them is compatible with ps5. I would totally upgrade to a set of these if they worked natively wireless without having to plug into a controller.

I would believe so this time around, and would love LDAC to provide high quality up to 990Kbps of audio bitrate instead of 328Kbps. If the Pulse 3D gets high reviews, then I'll go for it, but would rather see a head to head comparison between the two.

I think this Imran fella is just click/traffic baiting. So much more money is being made on the PS side. I can easily see some of these deals are made by the publishers going to PS. PS are probably not asking for some of those deals. Put it this way Capcom revealed 5% sales were made on xbox. Numbers like that will make it easy for publishers to strike deals with PS.
Well he said they paid to get a game that Xbox used to brag was at their shows. Sekiro and Elden Ring were debuted at Xbox E3’s back to back years. Sony owns Demon’s Souls and is remaking it, plus they own Bloodborne. Sekiro won GOTY and sold well, so Elden Ring is a big enough game to fit this rumor.

Sony paying Bandai Namco to make Elden Ring a PS4/5 exclusive for 1 year is just the thing I could see them doing if they want to realign the entire From Soft Soulsborne games as PlayStation games, like they are making Spider-Man be associated with PlayStation. Perfect thing to do if youre making a big Demon’s Souls remake for PS5 and want to take away one of the big 3rd party games Microsoft has had at their shows.

Also, Imran and Jeff Grubb both seemed very confident Elden Ring would not be at any Microsoft events this year. So perhaps they’re both heard the same rumor/gossip that Sony moneyhatted Elden Ring.

I have a friend, he's crying that currentgen version is a mess to work with. He probably will leave CDP after cyberpunk is finally released. I wouldnt be buying their shares right now.
I've heard similar things. Also, I know someone with lots of experience in PS4 engines who helped them, probably because they were in a dire situation. I would definitely wait for tech analyses (but not from DF clowns) on current gen versions before buying. I'll be playing it on PS5 (in compatibility mode or maybe upgraded version, depends how long I'll have to wait) so not a problem for me.

Yeah I've been saying the same thing.

People think Sony has to throw tons of money around for these deals, and they likely don't.. I doubt they are giving any of these indie devs a dime for instance. They'll happily agree to exclusivity, especially timed, if Sony will advertise them as one of their exclusive games. BIgger 3rd parties probably aren't far off from that.. but likely have more specific terms about how much Sony needs to market for them.. or prime placement on the PS Store or something.

It's one of the problems with such a lopsided market. It becomes an uphill battle for the console that is behind because everyone wants to work with the leader.. and Microsoft would have to pay boatloads of money for the same kind of exclusivity Playstation gets on the cheap.
there's always this bottomless chest of money I keep hearing about from the MS fan's side... I can hear it now... poor Microsoft...

He specifically uses the term pre-rendered vs. real time.

Those words have meaning.. some of the footage was not rendered in real time, but rather pre-rendered.

You are here claiming "well what he meant was in-engine real time".. and.. that's silly.. read the tweet, the dev knows the terms.
It's not worth getting worked up over. We'll leave it at that

I'm not bothered either really; just left feeling like I know less about the power of the PS5 than I did before.

It's certainly true that this forum generally went with the idea that it was all real time rendered, and the discussions around the PS5 graphics have been based on that.

Selling a console without a controller in the box is a great idea as I have numerous xbox pads from having the original xbox one, xbox one s and then the xbox one x.

I'd much prefer to buy the xbox series x without a control pad although the d-pad does look better.

The fact you can buy pads separately makes the console sold without makes so much sense.

I'll need one for the ps5 but won't for the ps5 Pro if there is one.
Then MS will sell it for their own userbase, because who doesn't have an Xbox would have to buy an incomplete product. They can buy a separate controller, but that just kills the reduced price point.

The XM4’s are noise cancelling and have over 30 hours of battery life, plus a more premium build. But they are $350. The PS5 Pulse headset has 12 hours of battery life, has no noise canceling, and will likely be around $150. So the PS5 headset is clearly made for console gamers who just want good headphones for their PS5, but not too pricey. I don’t think they’re aiming for the same market. The Sony XM4’s are more for daily life, smartphones, music audio, travel etc.

At least you know more about the PS5s power than the other system since the footage was captured off a PS5. That's how I look at all this.

After everyone already saw that update and came to same conclusion? What an insider!!!
The funny thing is it’s nothing, that playlist used to start with the PS5 reveal trailer. Then a week or 2 ago they added a trailer for Stray. They didn’t secretly update it more, they just added a missing trailer from the June event. That guy is either a troll or just knows nothing.

I know that, and the Pulse 3D has 50mm drivers vs 40mm drivers on XM4. Would rather have Pulse 3D be more impactful in gaming with high quality audio. If any benefits in gaming experiences goes for XM4 I'll get it.

I just personally don't care that much about Xbox lol

Like I want MS to succeed market wise, but it's doubtful XSX will be much more than a gadget I buy my wife so she can play Destiny with her friends. The SSD on the PS5 pretty much guarantees my impatient ass will use it as my primary console, and I PC game.. so MS's exclusives are also useless to me on Xbox.

My focus is on Playeation 5.. as it'll be my console of choice. And Microsoft not showing ANYTHING on XSX doesn't magically make what Sony has shown better to me. I get comparing them if you are still making a purchase decision.. but I feel like most of this forum has already decided.. yet still endlessly compares the 2 companies/machines.

Sony hasn’t said if the PS5 will support Bluetooth audio. So I doubt it will. I guess you could just plug the XM4 into your controller.

Maybe it's buried somewhere?

I've just imagined such a scene:
Phil Spencer comes to his boss, Microsoft CEO.
- Hey Phil, how's your division doing?
- Hey boss, it's doing great! We already have 10 million subscribers to Game Pass!
- That's nice. How much have you earned?
- Well, half of them paid one dollar... It'll be something like $50m income.
- And net?
- Well... We had to buy several studios, moneyhat some others... We're working on it.
- You have one more year, don't disappoint me. And now excuse me, I have a meeting with the server division head. We need to discuss our 50 billion dollar investment in submarine data centers.
- Can I have one hundredth of that money for Fable, boss? Pretty please...
- No, you can't. Now be going, Phil...

But we don't know that actually was my point; they said it was all running on PS5, and then later a dev said some of that was pre-rendered cutscenes. So we just don't know what of the presentation was real time, other than stuff lie Ratchet Gameplay.
Looks like it was just bad wording, pre-rendered cutscenes are less and less used nowadays because consoles reached a level where they're not needed, besides they take a lot of space.

To live up to the hype there’s only a few possibilities.

- GTA 6
- COD
- FIFA 21
- Overwatch 2
- Battlefield
- Fallout/Elder Scrolls

Anything not at that level gets shrugged off like Tomb Raider's XBO timed exclusivity.
What make sense is FF16 because FF7 ( much bigger than any major FF game ) is already timed exclusive. But, xbox amd PC crowd may not really care for FF.

Other possibility is GTA6

To be fair, a PlayStation-only future scares me. I don't want Sony to go all arrogant again. MS keeps them in check. I don't want that to change. Sure, we get a few chuckles out of the Craig memes, but a monopoly in console gaming won't be good for us, methinks. And no, I do not acknowledge Nintendo as a competitor since they've more or less live in their own pocket universe, an ethereal dimension where they can neither harm or be harmed by Sony.

I'm all in for Sony monopoly, it won't be worse than Windows monopoly.

It really depends on how much Microsoft is willing to lose on the division before axing it. One thing that im certain is that they wouldn't keep it if they didn't see a potential to return a profit from it in the future. Seems like their current focus is making sure they get that with gamepass.

So overall I think Microsoft keeping the Xbox division running is going to be heavily dependent on their services like Gamepass.
Probably Nadella is waiting to see whether that 'one billion subscribers service' promise Phil probably made to him will pay off. I have this feeling Xcloud is the last chance for Xbox division.

Well considering multiple outlets have picked up on it. Doesn't seem like a throw away line when he's talking next gen. But if thats how you feel thats cool. Me Im just going to lower my expectations. And going to guess it's the usual suspects.

That was just in reference to you calling what Imran said click bait. If the video title was something like "Next-Gen INSANITY!!! BIG multiplats to be timed exclusives on PS5" then I'd agree, that's some clickbait, but not when it wasn't even the main subject or hinted at anywhere to be in the video. When it was buried like that, it's quite the opposite of clickbait.

That aside, I completely agree that any little nugget of next-gen news such as this will be picked up, run by other outlets, speculated on and used as click bait by them.

Anywho, let's look at what Imran said verbatim, "there are things you will be shocked to find out Sony is money hatting, that they are locking up for timed exclusivity, wow that is the game you're choosing. Not because it's bad but because it's huge.... There are games that are widely accepted as multiplatform that Sony is locking up for a little while."

To me this is beyond the current deal between Sony and Activision with the CoD DLC timed exclusivity, he's talking about locking entire games for a period of time. That would be huge and it sounds like there's more than one. Hell even Heisenberg said to "think big". My money is on one of the major FPS titles (perfect compliment to Sony's first party titles), and possibly Resident Evil. I'm hung up on next-gen GTA 5. Surely the series X will run it in bc. I'm just not seeing the incentive for Sony to pay for an improved version when the folks who care about it already own the game so that doesn't create new software sales like other options would. GTA 6 though?

I think what we have to look at is what's going to piss people off the most?

If Sony wants the deal to have an impact it's going to have to piss off alot of people so it can generate alot of noise for them.

Sony's new WH-1000XM4 have some built-in HRTF-like system that reads your ears and provide accordingly! Timestamped:

Is it implemented in the Pulse 3D? I would say more than likely. @Audiophile thurnishaleygw thurnishaleygw

The thing to take into account is that the mic sensors the XM4 has built-in are basically for active noise canceling purposes. It has nothing to do directly with HRTF, it's something more to do with reacting to the environment you're in and provide the best possible noise canceling performance at all times. That obviously affects the clarity with which you perceive what you're listening to on the headphones, but it's not really HRTF related.

One thing to note is that the XM4 and the Pulse 3D have a very different goal in mind, the XM4 are built to be the best noise canceling headphones for your dairy life, anywhere you go with them, while providing, obviously, a good sound clarity and the best sound staging closed headphones can have, while the Pulse 3D, I'm guessing are much more set to be the go to for people that want a great headset for gaming, while also being a good option for music listening and other purposes. So, in that regard, I think we cannot really compare them directly, and I would like to know a little bit more about the Pulse 3D headset when it comes to technical specs to really judge its purpose and capabilities.

So it's using wi-fi? That's a better connection AFAIK.

Just like PS4 with joypads and official headsets (it's radio similar to wifi but not wifi, to be exact) BT has a lag and signal isn't strong enough for those purposes.

All PlayStation wireless controllers actually do connect via Bluetooth. But PlayStations can’t use Bluetooth for headsets because Bluetooth can’t do simultaneous audio transfer of game sound to player, voice chat sound to the player, and also voice chat from the player mic to the console. So they made their own wireless connection for headsets to allow game sound and voice chat at the same time. That’s why the headsets ship with a radio transmitter, but the controllers don’t. PlayStations have Bluetooth built in, unlike Xbox. Xbox doesn’t use Bluetooth at all, they have their own proprietary radios for everything.

I concur, it's going to be something (or multiple things) that are huge. I can't think of anything that would cause a bigger splash than next-gen CoD being exclusive to PS5 for say 6 months.

Can we just appreciate how Cyberpunk 2077 is looking like? It's gonna be a HUGE game with lots to discover and its city is full of interiors and all that, I don't know how they're gonna (or done) fit all that on PS4/XB1, because when I saw the 2018 gameplay I said it wouldn't fit PS4/XB1, it'd be downgraded, but it's actually upgraded now, BUT, all footage we've seen was on PC, we have 4 months till its release & we haven't seen any PS4/XB1 footage.

As you can all see, it got UPGRADED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And this is the final build most likely, you can't say it's gonna get a downgrade, because the game is finished, I'm really wondering how it'll look like on base consoles...for me, I'm either gonna get it for the next-gen consoles or on PC, I don't know...
I thought CDPR has said that the only system giving them a headache was the OG Xbox One. We should be fine... It won't be a Switch Outer Worlds lol.

GTAVI would also do it as well. Especially if the game looks really next gen if you know what I mean.

I'm thinking more of launch window titles, the timing is what makes me hesitant on GTAVI being one he's talking about now. If 6 was that close to coming out I'm having a hard time seeing the reason for putting resources into a next-gen version of GTAV. I'm not saying it isn't a possibility down the road but I think the focus will stay on the next gen version of 5 for a while.
