PS5 UI Will Be Shown Soon, Boasting “100% Overhaul” And “Very Different New Concepts”

If Sony is radically changing the interface, then this could affect users' ability to carry over themes from PS4. It would be nice if they allow you to utilize at least some elements of the old themes on the new system, even if certain features aren't supported.

Give me a "List view" for games instead of cards
Easy access to games I own/bought on PSN instead of having to go to the library that oftentimes refuses to load icons/cards
Let me filter out PS+ games or put them into a separate category the way it's now is kinda bad.
Let me have the cards/icons of games I have uninstalled, so I can browse.
Optimize your apps properly, so they don't crash after using them for 10 minutes (PSN app always crashes for me when I browse the store).

This is what I want and hope for.

So basically you want the current Xbox interface on the PS5. It does all of that except for a list view.

No, I want the features, not the UI (it still looks like the Windows 10 start menu, right?).

I just find it baffling that the PS4 UI doesn't support simple things that have been the standard on PC for over a decade. I also hope that they let us sort the start menu by categories. The "Last Played/Opened" sorting it uses now is annoying. I would love to sort by alphabet, while I set up favorites which are always at the top (or the left) for example.

Like, they let us sort the folders, why not the start menu? I just don't understand this.

It hasn’t looked like a Windows start menu for years.

I’d love for it to just be a simple up/down to navigate between Menus (Favourites, Games, Apps, Media, Settings)

And left/right to move between the above selected menu.

Well, expected since Sony is the only one who believes in generations. Everything should be brand new, no laziness allowed.

Console Warrior Mode, ACTIVATED!!!

Do we know how much ram is resverved for the OS? Are they still BSD based?

I'd assume 2 GB. It's not just for OS, but also media app reserves and the such as well.

All the patents seem to show its still XMB based though right?
That's what the patents show. Something very much like XMB but with added features.

XMB really was an amazing OS.

Also a new OS is what i hoped for with Series X but looks like MS is going for an OS that's familiar across devices. No harm in that but was hoping for something new and a bit different.

As long as I don't have to endlessly scroll to the right to find a game I haven't played in a few days It'll be fine for me.
Create Folders mate. I have folders setup like 'Exclusives, Sports, 1st Person Shooters, Arcade etc.

It will shorten the amount of side scrolling you will need to do.

I have over 100 games. Imagine me having to find one by scrolling sideways lol

Yes, there are folders NOW. I'm talking about how it was before there were.

Hope for a good UI this gen. While the PS4's UI works, it feels like a toys interface compared to the Xbox UI at this point. IMO

here you can add these. PS3 UI > PS4 UI. PS5 with just that screenshot, im already impressived.

Not a fan of either the PS3 or PS4 UI for many of the reasons mentioned earlier (navigability, discoverability, slowness, etc.)

I'm hoping for a customizable Netflix-like grid with sorting/filtering options and groups. Also allow me to delete useless Sony apps without having to hide them in some kind of "Crapple" group.

Personally, I wish Sony would keep the UI and dashboard the same as PS4. Simple, easy, crisp, clean, no clutter and folders so I can minimize all the stuff I don't use.

Definitely think they should implement a grid or go back to the PS3 up and down instead of having us to do the organization with folders to prevent the side scrolling 15 tiles over.

Just give me ability to use any PNG as a wallpaper since day 1. Nothing else really matters to me. I hope to rock the same Amazon Dragons Crown wallpaper 3rd gen in a row. 🤞

PS3 UI will be my favorite, but hope this new UI is not too taxing.

What time is it?
PS4 is fine but I liked the XMB on PS3 the best. Anything is better than the horror show of the Xbox.

Never had issues with neither PS3 nor PS4 UI.
As for something being "laggy", you do realize, this "overhaul" is not about speeding things up,, don't you?

I couldn‘t care less about them making a new UI, what I care about is feature parity with the PS4 one.

If they pull another PS4 UI launch with half the shit missing from previous gen, I‘ll riot. Feature parity or bust.

It’s a console UI, not a story twist.

Going in fresh seeing a console for the first time with your own eyes is pretty nice.

It could spoil the experience, hence spoilers. Doesn't have to be a story beat to be a spoiler.

You should try the fucking xbox one x 🤣
Holy shit UI was shit this gen.

Someone had the bright idea to make it all dynamic and based on remote data with some questionable caching and using essentially a web browser to render more and more of its components...

I don't understand how or why they went backwards from the 360's UI 🤦🏻‍♂️

“On Xbox, the ad is part of the actual experience, it’s not something that is outside. The only difference is that the advertisement we have is quite small and not disruptive, so people are not aware of clicking on the banners because they know this is a part of the whole experience on the dash,”

It's the whole reason we lost the blades too. It's almost like the whole thing is some slow webpage. Sometimes when xbox live had problems the fucking UI became almost unusable.

I think a few people have confused what Microsoft is doing with the UI, no one ever said the Series X wouldn't be using a new UI; merely that the Series X and Xbox One would be updated in unison.

So whatever the Series X launches with would be updated to reflect that on the Xbox One, not that the Series X would be using the Xbox One dashboard.

XBox 360 original blades UI is still the king.

We have just gotten worse and worse and worse with each UI. Switch, PS4 and XBone are all much more annoying.

I will always prefer the feature set of the XMB albeit going back to it from PS4’s UI takes some retraining. That was a multimedia monster... just needs a bit more RAM and faster CPU when active. It could shine with PS5 taking it to new heights.

It just does not handle game promotions and ads as well though, which is mostly what the marketing teams and some UX will ask you to add as soon as they see a cm2 of free screen real estate...

I’m not sure excessive sorting options will be necessary. With every DualSense having a quick access, in-built microphone, won’t we all start gaming with saying “Play Cyberpunk” a lot more often?

Xbox or Microsoft, just keep it light and don't call data on the home page from API's or services to lag the entire thing down (e..g What's new, friends feed etc). Or let me turn it off completely. I'd prefer to trigger refreshes if I want them, not because you think it's all about convenience etc.
