PlayStation has removed The Last of Us 2 from PS4’s Store and issued refunds

Impossible. They won't sacrifice the 100+ million they got on PS4
He is talking about the console being pushed to 2021, not the game.

Yeah, the console. Given the financial crisis we're currently looking at, it might be much smarter for them to wait until people actually have money again. ~$500 on a plastic box is simply not gonna happen for a whole lot of people this year

They did the same thing with Iron Man BR, stop trying to make an agenda out of nothing.
Nah man, Sony know that Ironman VR is gonna pull in those mad PS5 sales. Why else would they delay a game otherwise?; Because right now production lines and transportation are crippled? Delaying games that the devs say are finished and were about to go gold till november makes WWWAAYYY more sense.

But seriously, people need to stop being stupid. Only chance this comes out as a PS5 launch title is if the confinement lasts till october.

This is not necessarily cause for extreme alarm. I think it's standard procedure when a game no longer has a release date, no?

That said, this delay is and was bullshit. Get as many physical copies out as you can, release globally digital. Software engineers and testers can 100% work from home, and the game was and is just about done. Weak.

I wonder if they're shooting themselves in the foot, launching the PS5 and a lot of top notch PS4 Titles at the same time. If it's launching that late, it definitely seems like it would launch on PS5 at the same time, which makes me fear for the mental and physical health of Naughty Dogs Employees.

I haven’t been following this to close. I know that covid is slowing down development and causing difficulties. Is that just it? Does this have anything to do with releasing this kind of post apocalyptic game at a time like this have anything to do with it? I don’t find it bad or anything as it’s just a game, but maybe their scared of bad PR? Like when BF didn’t show their trailer after mass shootings were going on. Maybe I’m just thinking too much of it.

and the game was and is just about done.

having doubts that's the case at this point. Read somewhere that ND lost 70% staff from a specific department. Are they low on manpower and are way behind schedule due to this?

My opinion is that, in the game the world was devastated by a global pandemic and things went wild. Maybe they want to avoid possible public sensitivity about the subject, and possible bad press, considering the new reality.

I doubt they'd be concerned about that. Resident Evil 3 Remake just came out and no one raised a fuss. And that game actually depicts the outbreak occurring and such (hell, a trophy/achievement is literally called "Somebody to Lean On" as I imagine it was impossible to alter the name in time since Bill Withers' death due to the virus was so recent, but again no one freaked out), while Last of Us Part 2 takes place like 25 years after the outbreak and they already showed the outbreak's beginning in the first game's prologue, so I doubt many would see that much of a connection other than a virus is involved (I mean, we see in the trailers Ellie and company are definitely not practicing social distancing, LMAO).

If anything, I'd say a lot of people would find it very therapeutic to play a game where the virus isn't some invisible threat that any person could have and even being as safe as possible isn't a 100% guarantee, but rather a visible threat of infected mutations that you can shoot the shit out of.

My guess is one of the following, or perhaps a mixture.

They're probably in crunch, which is hard to do with everyone working from home. They want to control leaks, which is hard to do with everyone working from home. They decided to save the game for a simultaneous PS4 and PS5 release. This will move a lot more PS5 hardware than being able to play the PS4 version on your PS5 after the game has already been out for months.

Everything they've told us so far indicates that the game is practically done. This is more about the logistics of not being able to press discs and ship to consumers/retailers.

With that, I agree that they're probably weighing their options right now timing-wise. I'd imagine they want the game out sooner rather than later, but surely a cross-gen launch with PS5 is an option on the table right now. Though I wonder how/if that will affect Ghost of Tsushima.

There’s enough hardcore fans to support the launch of the new consoles even during a crisis.

the game might be a cross gen title launching at the same time on both ps4 and ps5.

if its a ps5 exclusive I would imagine there would be a ton of upset fans.....

Something else definitely at play here than just the coronavirus. It'll launch on PS5 and I'm 100% fine with that. I mean why not at this point. Better perfromance, upgraded visuals(?), etc.

It would be a shitty move if it was simply moved to next gen, I don't think Sony is dumb enough to something like that.
A cross gen title would be fine sucks having to wait but understandable, they have probably sunk a lot of money into this and don't want the pandemic thing to hinder sales performance.

...lacks reading comprehension.
I really hope the game launches as soon as possible so I can bitch about it and it's SJW agenda.

My PS4 Pro is ready.

PD: My bet is a July/August release.
If it were that close, why would they refund preorders? It's either going to their big launch title vs. Halo Infinite or they will release it in a year. Sony normally tries to avoid the holiday season for their exclusives.

Because its normal for games without a release date.

last of us 2 ps5 launch game?

last of us ps5 launch game

sony going to pull a nintendo on us
Probably had no PS5 launch titles Makes sense to make this one.
PS5 launch minimum. Maybe even 2021.

If they are giving refunds and are calling it "indefinite", let's face it. An "indefinite" delay is no way going to mean add two weeks to the original launch date. No company is going to scrap pre-orders and give refunds over a short delay.

I'm guessing they don't have much new IPs at launch except Godfall.

I dont think its so much that it got delayed to be cross-gen as it was a combination of current events for safety as well as not wanting to seem tone death (releasing a game set in a post-apocalyptic world due to a viral fungal infection during the midst of a IRL viral pandemic.)

This along with giving out refunds no questions asked, i can commend them for that.

Yeap... no lol
You just wait.
Think about this.
They say indefinitely cuz of logistics due to virus.
Then if thats true ghost of tutu will be delayed indefinitely as well.
And if due to logistics well ps5 wont be released at all if they cant release a single game.

Here is where i will be right.

Both games will be launch titles for ps5 and will be available on ps4 the same time.
Ps5 will be released earlier then we think. My guess it will be september.

And dont ever tell me i am not right.
I am always right.

That's a bold statement both games being delayed, but possible.

I'm sticking to LoU2 being a launch game and Ghosts being on time. Only due to the fact if Ghosts was delayed too they might as well say it at the same time as they games are only a month apart in initial launch dates.

Having two big Sony first person games a month apart doesn't even make sense. They want to spread them out better. It would have worked if LoU2 stuck to their original launch dates I think in 2019 or early 2020. But it got pushed to May where Ghosts is June. Too close.

I have a feeling there's something much bigger going on here than some bugs and COVID-19.

Boris Johnson the UK prime minister is currently in ICU from this virus, so I’m not sure what you think is bigger than world leaders potentially fucking dying and destabilizing society further. Releasing a disease-themed apocalypse scenario game during this period of uncertainty and fear would be tone-deaf to plain stupid.

The reason is simple. Retail. A huge amount of game sales are retail and retail has ground to a halt. Just imagine how many tens of millions of dollars they’ve spend on marketing alone. This is their biggest event of the gen, they don’t want to have it come out this way.

I think what’s going to shock some of the “this will probably slip to PS5 at this rate crowd” is that PS5 will also almost certainly be very delayed.

Obvious cross-gen launch title for PS5.

Sony will push like motherfuckers those gorgeous 4k graphics and zero loading times in lots of ads in November.

Smart move.

Its based on the fact they claim the delay has to do with covid and logistics.
What makes you think it will change in a month?
Nah its either true or plain bullshit in which case it will look bad on sony and nd.
If the covid is the reason ghost will suffer the same fate.

At this point to save face they have to delay everything but with the added bonus of it being released on ps5 at launch and ps5 having an early launch in september.

You know i have a hard time with being looked at as an idiot by corporations.
They tell us excuses but the same excuse doesnt apply to a title that a month apart?

Not really surprising since the game doesn't have a release date therefore cannot stay in pre order status on the PS Store.

However these type of situations don't occur normally, I don't remember last time this happened.

They'll wait and see how worldwide quarantines go; if they are largely done by June I imagine this game will release in the summer.
