Microsoft confirms 12 TF RDNA 2 for the Xbox Series X

not my fault if you don't understand why the lack of clarity is a shitty move...

do you at least understand that people with a beefy pc don't need a console to play Microsoft games? they already spent thousands of dollars for their PCs.
I'm confused.

are you angry because your Microsoft PC that cost 2-5x more than my console can play Microsoft console games? this seems like a win to me. because a vast majority of people do NOT have a gaming PC nor do they want one.

you understand this logic equates to being mad that your $2000 pc can play the same games as someones $600 crap laptop....right?

I really don't think it matters, especially if the price is lower. Console market has always been about affordability over theoretical performance numbers.
This is a false narrative. If that was the case switch would be dominant and it’s not. Price isn’t the determining factor at all. People point to PS3 but what they forget is PS3 wasn’t the more powerful console at launch it was arguably less powerful due to its architecture and 360 had stunning games.

They're both using x86 AMD CPUs and Navi GPUs in the same year. Neither is doing anything wacky like Kinect. AMD is probably offering similar deals to both.

And Sony could be 50% down on power and still beat Xbox Series X. Xbox only sells in English speaking countries; it's not a rivalry when one side always wins.
Yeah it is a rivalry do you even know what that means? Sony can win ww by a little or a lot depending on how they do in those English speaking countries. Were you even around for the PS3 launch and the humble pie Sony got served?
I doubt it's 25% but even then, that would be an even smaller difference than the PS4 and Xbox One
As someone who had both consoles at launch the difference in power was massively obvious immediately and Xbox was barely ever turned on as a result.

I disagree. Microsoft is mostly likely going to win both US and UK, overall Sony will most likely lead, but it won’t be a domination like PS4
It will probably be close to being just as dominant. The xbox is a non starter in a lot of markets, esp in Asia. Theres a lot of people who wont want to leave their library of games and friends. Added to that the fact the PS5 will likely be cheaper and have the mom factor in its favor.

For MS to catch up its going to have to be better for years going forward. They have a lot of catching up to do.

12TF RDNA1 is already comparable to 16TF Vega, but now we know XSX will use RDNA2 architecture on top of that.

It almost looks too good to be true but it would explain why Xbox Lockhart is only 4TF (because 4TF RDNA2 should be faster than 6TF xbox x)

And there is also VRS (and probably AI upscaling). IMO these next gen consoles will be faster than people expected. Guys I cant wait to see next gen games in action. Can you imagine next forza or gran turismo on such powerful consoles?

I already explained why i was mad, it's not really hard to understand, i dont know how you reached that conclusion tbh...

One last time, i bought 400 of console for his exclusive games while already having a beefy pc, after that microsoft decided to port every exclusive game on pc too, so now i have 400 dollars less and a useless console at home that i never used basically.
I even tried to sell the console but gamestop valutation was shit and in italy nobody has or wants an xbox, my country is sony domain.

Is it more clear like that? I dont give a damn if some people find a use for the xbone while having a powerfull pc at home, i'm not one of them.

It's the same exact reason why people are now mad at sony, because they want to know if they need a fucking console to play their exclusive games...people want to save money, what a bunch of idiots, am i rite?!

Like i already said, the news itself was not the problem, the timing was.

That didn’t matter for players going from PS2 to 360 and players going from 360 to PS4. If Sony dominates, it will be because of price and games, nothing else.

He first said that both are 10+ TF, then when it was rumored that XSX was 12 TF after the VGA he changed it to "both are 12+ TF, that has always been the target". Also PS5 faster than XSX. And reveal of PS5 in February. And Lockhart doesn't exist. Think that's it.
Thanks for the update, will be veryyyyyy interesting hows this plays out

So how does games being available on your PC make your xbox useless now? did the games being made available on PC brick your xbox?

You bought your xbox to play xbox exclusives. It can do that and still does that to this day, so for all intents and purposes....it has filled its promises. You having a PC has no bearing on what Microsoft decides to do with their games, because as long as your XBOX that you purchased to PLAY GAMES can still do such, no promise has been broken and there is no anti-consumerism.

Its weird because you're complaining about being forced to waste money on a "useless console" when the decision to move the games to pc also was to HELP people who cant afford both a beefy pc and a console access to their games.

So you're complaining about being able to afford both. Bravo. 1st world problems galore.

and is also on PC so it will most likely support older hardware like GTX 1050 and below... lol. I would also bet that it is a 6 to 12 month timed exclusive as well.
Wait? It’s also coming to PC? Lol I thought it’s only on PS5. Lol

So Yeah, then we don’t know about a single PS5 exclusive.

Are you being dense on purpose or what?? Are you reqlly asking why people don't buy a console when they already have a gaming pc that runs the same games??
I don't wanna be offensive but it's hard for me being more clear than my precedent post.

Who the fuck cares if the xbox can still play the same games when i have a powerfull pc that play the same games miles better? The console become absolutely useless and it was never used again, like i said, i dont care if people still use their console while having a beefy pc, i'm not one of them, i have both console and pc attached to my 4k oled tv so is not even a question of gaming in a comfy chair on a big screen because i already do that with my pc.

How do you call a thing that you never use? English is not my native language but useless seems extremely on point...

Are you also asking why people want to know if they need to buy a ps5 for sony games? Because only in this forum there is a shitload of people who want to know that and it's the exact same thing that happened to me with M and their console.

Clarity from the start is what consumers want, it can't be that hard to understand...

They were clear. Xbox can play games. One can not assume that MS had always planned to bring their exclusives to PC. When they decided to bring their games to PC also, they clarified that. I'm not sure what else you want. For them to see into the future also?

Your issue isn't with the fact the games are on PC, its the fact you have illogical buyers remorse. Your issue is you wish they had made that decision before you purchased an Xbox, and that right there is not only unfair but dense as shit, as you expect a companies planning and timeframe to revolve around your singular buying experience.

The ball is in Sony's court. MS must have finalized their specs.

I assume Sony will have a similarly powered machine and then they can play chicken over the price.

I think this is the start of that game. We heard Sony is trying to figure price point and are in the $450 range. MS drops info about XsX to try and goat Sony to dropping info and maybe price of PS5.

Like most people they see the specs of XsX and say it’s gotta be in the $500-$600 or more range. I think both Sony and MS want each other to announce price first so the other can be equal or undercut it.

I'm still unimpressed. Hopefully Sony has awesome BC. Otherwise I'll be passing on next gen.

Also my experience with using the XB1X for streaming cable/YouTube/twitch, basically any media not a game, has been god awful. I don't trust MS to not fuck that up again.

Porting all your exclusives game on pc it's not a move that you think today for tomorrow, i'm very doubtfull that microsoft was not internally clear in their plan for pc gaming, and tbh nobody here can say that for certain.

Also buyer remorse is not exactly how i call that, i was absolutely ok with buying a console for exclusives games, i always did that in the past being primarly a console gamer (i got close to hardcore pc gaming in the last 10 year or less), i just feel betrayed by Microsoft in that occasion, i was a big fan of og xbox and x360.

And i repeat once again, it's the same exact thing that is happening now with sony, you can go in every topic and there is always someone who want to know if they need to buy a ps5, and believe me, sony already knows their plan for pc gaming, they are not children but a bilionare company, moving all your exclusives games on pc is not a little thing that you come out one day while eating a sandwitch, it's a giant step.

Even people who talk big in this topic was absolutely not certain about 12tf rdna2 because it's fucking BIG for a home console.

Also why using a console for anything besides videogames? They are born for that, but maybe it's the old man inside me who talk right now :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

How does this compare to previous power difference between generations? Xbox to 360
360 to One

Because of the CPU boost, enormously greater than Xbox 360 to Xbox One. Also, Xbox to Xbox 360 was only 4 years apart, so Xbox 360 is basically an HD version of Xbox since it shares basically the same feature set. Programmable shaders were introduced with Xbox (GeForce 3). Xbox was considered almost a generational leap in terms of feature set, making it the most powerful console by far that generation, so the move to 360 would be less impacting.

Based on the above, the leap from Xbox One to Xbox Series X will be the biggest ever in the Xbox family.

Why do people disregard github document (real factual document that was quickly taken down) but believe shitty pastebins and posts on 4chan. Boggles the mind.

If you bring it up you get ridiculed, but it’s a document with real data and half came out yesterday, specs of Series X.

Disbelief I think.

But it’s not weird for Sony to target a 399 machine with specs closer to 10 TF. It would be an awesome machine for that price.

To bad it seems Ram and NAND pricing is screwing them over.

Why are people being combative regarding pricing and relative specs? Those barely matter. I assume it's just the kids. Any middle class grown adult anywhere can buy all systems and even a gaming pc and maintain them all at the same time, if they had to. but they logically won't due to massive redundancy and cross platform spam. Xbox series x is already dead to me since exclusives won't be a thing. I'm only interested in the ps5 because of potential exclusives and nothing else.

I agree. I’m still waiting for the guy who said that where he lives people make less than 500 bucks a month. I would like to know where that is

People keep saying that they don't trust Microsoft to f*** up again...but look at what they've done:

-People criticize the lack of exclusives, so Microsoft invested in multiple dev studios, some of which have created some of the best games of this and the prior generation.
-People criticized the lack of power in the XBox One, so they pumped out the XBO:X, and it's easily the most powerful console this gen *AND* it appears that Microsoft will have the most powerful console from day one for next gen as well.
-People criticized having to buy games over again across generations, so they're getting with studios to make it so you don't get "Skyrimmed" this generation (unless the dev/publisher are greedy f***s).
-People criticized the lack of communication from Microsoft regarding their console and how they didn't respond to fan criticism and concerns--they've been pretty damn transparent and open so far, and they've issued multiple mea culpas for how the XBox One went down (even though the architect of that crapfest of a launch has since left Microsoft to go sabotage other companies).

Honestly, if people aren't giving Microsoft any benefit of the doubt at this point that they'll make something spectacular, then nothing will sway them.

Not trying to be obtuse, but why the obsession over tflops? We still have a lot of unknowns on the table, both for the PS5 and for the XsX.

RAM? Read/write speed of the fancy-shmancy SSDs? Dedicated audio / raytracing / etc hardware? CPU architecture and power?

I feel like we are salivating over the PR headline when the real-world console performance depends on several other (missing) factors.

Flip it around: if PS5 has dedicated ray-tracing hardware with twice the throughput as XsX, won't that offset the meaningfulness of the GPU tflops? In this presser, Microsoft mentions their "patented variable rate shading", which itself will allow devs to squeeze more out of those 12 tflops than they might normally be able to, and if Sony lacks something equivalent the PS5 could have 12+ tflops and still be lagging behind. If Sony's SSD is significantly faster than Microsoft's, that will drastically affect load speeds and pop-in, perhaps even compensating for a weaker CPU/GPU.

That didn’t matter for players going from PS2 to 360 and players going from 360 to PS4. If Sony dominates, it will be because of price and games, nothing else.

Of course it mattered. According to you people go where the games and price are. That was Sony (im assuming you will say) but yet heres MS still making consoles. Why is that? Because they had loyal customers right? Well Sony has a lot more loyal customers than xbox. And again, xbox will take quite a while to overcome that. That's the point of my original post on the topic.. even if xbox has the power advantage(or whatever) sony will still outsell xbox.

I think people just want to see some AAA exclusives game that is not halo, gears or forza before giving microsoft any trust.

I mean, i still don't see anything in their line up that excites me like the reveal of horizon, tlou2, taushima or gow did on ps4.

Hellblade 2 seems to have a very nice graphics, but it was not real time or gameplay and the first game is not exactly what i call "one of the best of this gen" by a long shot.

They showed bleeding edge and the survival game with the characters small like insects in a garden, not exactly the most exiting stuff.

Micorsoft still has to win gamers heart with some big exclusive reveal.

For everything else they are doing great.

There is no confirmation that he was real time if i remember well, but graphics is the last problem of that game, the first one was barely a 7\10 game, and without seeing real gameplay for the sequel people don't get really excited (except people who loved the first one, not many of them out there tbh).

The game you mention like god of war of the last of us 2 do nothing to get me excited about a console. I prefer more online games and there isn’t much in Sony’s offerings for that. Not saying they are bad games, I loved Spider-Man on my ps4

Right, that's what I am referring to. The raw numbers are only one piece of the puzzle. I'm thinking back to how THE CELL had a lot of untapped juice that took a few years to really show off the power even though the smaller, split RAM pool was an objective disadvantage compared to 360.

Architecture is going to matter a lot.

One thing I will say is microsoft at this early stage are confident enough to show what they have got, as I stated in another post Sony are silent even with negative press such as they struggling with price or that they are waiting for Xs price to match it. None of it sparks confidence from the market leader so far, we will see soon am sure

Is it possible that MS has 2 SKUs, this beast and a cheaper one while Sony will have 1 SKU that would be in the middle? Less powerful than XSX but also less expensive?

It looks like that's how its gonna shake out, even if it wasn't their plan going in.

But then wouldn't MS (possibly) also have something that would be less powerful than Ps5 but also less expensive?

we just gonna keep minimizing until we hit ps4/xbone levels?

"proprietary wireless communication" has me slightly worried.

I know they say XBO controllers work on Series X, but will Series X controllers not work on other Bouetooth devices like Android or PC?

I hate the word Proprietary. It's very Apple.

Last time I checked, not just him but also Matt thought Lockhart was canceled when news started to pop up about how MS decided to revive Lockhart.

works the same as now, Xbox one controllers use wireless but can also use Bluetooth if you want on Pc. Quite common. This just means it’s a new version of it.
