Upgrade to Project Scarlett with Xbox All Access

Xbox just announced that if you get an Xbox One X through its All Access programme, you can upgrade to Project Scarlett when it's released next year: https://news.microsoft.com/en-gb/2019/10/28/upgrade-to-project-scarlett-with-xbox-all-access/

I already have an Xbox One X but thinking of getting another one now.

The link is blocked at my work. Please summarize. I doubt I'll be that impressed.

Once Microsoft launches Project Scarlett next holiday season, you'll be able to upgrade to the company's next-generation console provided you've made at least 18 payments on your existing purchase and return your console, controller and power cord in "good working order." There's also a $20 fee if you're upgrading from the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.
If you end up springing for an Xbox One X, you'll be able to upgrade to Project Scarlett after making 12 payments. That's an offer that's available for a limited time and will effectively allow you to get your hands on Scarlett as soon as it's available. The catch here is that you'll need to qualify for and sign a new 24-month financing contract for the next-gen system. Microsoft hasn't said how much financing a Project Scarlett console through Xbox All Access will cost.

Kind of a dumb program. Not only do I have to finance through Microsoft (paying an additional finance charge - no less) I have to wait 18 months before I can upgrade?

I don’t know who this is for. Maybe for the handful of people that haven’t yet purchased an Xbox One and are already planning on purchasing a scarlet?

This is a two exclamation mark thread, not a five exclamation mark thread.

Its actually a great program. Families with little spare money can now buy little Jimmy an Xb1, something they may not of been able to do at a one off £200 or £400 payment. You even get a couple years of Gamepass included so they dont even have to buy little Jimmy games for his new Xbox.

Xbox All Access lets people pay for Xbox consoles over 24 months, with no upfront cost...

An Xbox One X costs £24.99 a month, an Xbox One S costs £19.99 a month and an Xbox One S All-Digital Edition costs £17.999 a month.

Yikes...
So £24.99 * 24 = £599.76
An Xbox One X on Amazon UK is £364.95
£599.76 / £364.95 = 1.64340320592
1.64 * 100 = 164

64% markup, yikes indeed :messenger_astonished:

Those families should teach little Jimmy the importance of financial responsibility by not financing the console he hasn’t really wanted just to qualify for an upgrade to the console he is excited for. And when all his friends are playing the scarlet on launch day? Poor little Jimmy has to tell his friends that Mom and Dad have 6 months of payments to make before he can start playing with them...

Option to upgrade does not equal a FREE upgrade LOL.

Kinda think they should be a lot more transparent on pricing, especially when the new hardware doesn't have a RRP yet.

All the "offer" is, is that the minimum term pre-upgrade is 12months, not 18 as usual.

If they get the X it's a 12 payments thing, so assuming Scarlett drops in Nov 2020 Jimmy could get it relatively quickly.

If you need to finance a console you probably should stop playing games, get off your ass, and find a real job.

I can’t comprehend how people can stand to be broke. When I was a broke college student every single thought in my mind was about what I could do to land a six figure job.

Do you enjoy having shitty lives? Doesn’t it bother you that people own property, stock, massive 401K funds, etc. and yet you have to finance a fucking console? Get your priorities straight.

Monthly price includes Game Pass Ultimate as well, at least here in the US.
In that case, factoring in the £10.99 monthly fee results in...

Xbox One X £364.95
24 months of game pass £10.99 * 24 = £263.76
Upfront total £364.95 + £263.76 = £628.71
Financing total £24.99 * 24 = £599.76

£599.76 / £628.71 = 0.95395333302
0.95 * 100 = 95

So it works out to a 5% saving on the console + 24mo game pass ultimate, which isn't so bad if you were planning on subbing for 24 months anyway (aside from having a debt around your neck, of course).

It's a chunky extra if you're a buy-to-own kind of player though.

Where did you get that an X is a 12 payment thing?

Also, why would Microsoft require 18 months of payments is order to qualify for the upgrade if the X was a 12 month payment thing?

It’s actually a good deal if you plan on subscribing already like you said. Doesn’t work for me because I use Microsoft rewards to buy Gamers Pass Ultimate. I won’t talk down on anyone for taking a deal though because it is once you crunch the numbers.

If they are that bad off they shouldn’t be buying little Jimmy and console at all.
This is a stupid program and if you cant buy a console outright maybe you should set your priorities in order.

Why do you think companies offer finance on products?, you may not agree with it, or think its a stupid way to buy something, but thats life for a lot of people living in poverty, or with low incomes.

But u need to take into account that little Jimmy is a whiny little bitch who wont stop asking his parents for an expensive console. Eventually the parents, feeling beaten down and financially impotent, will give into litte Jimmy. But little Jimmy wont be satiated.....he'll want more...more. It'll never end.

It's Fortnite skins and FIFA Ultimate Team all the way down from there

Considering game consoles are absolutely on the optional side of things to buy, I do not get why anyone would get one by financing it. Buy toys with money you own and know you do not need for more urgent matters, use finance for necessities you really need but cannot afford at once (e.g. a broken fridge or oven).

All I’m saying is if your struggling to be able to buy a game console maybe you really shouldn’t and think of putting food on the table and paying bills instead of buying luxury items.
Little Jimmy will be fine not being able to play Fortnite but skipping dinner because they blew it all on a console is stupid.

According to Microsoft, directly:

We realize buying a console is an investment and some players are waiting to make the jump to the next generation with Project Scarlett when it launches in Holiday 2020 alongside “Halo Infinite”. This is why as a limited time offer this holiday season, players in the U.S. and U.K. who purchase an Xbox One X with Xbox All Access through December 31, 2019, have the option to upgrade to the next Xbox console in as few as 12 months and once Project Scarlett has officially launched.

I'm not saying i dont agree, i'm just saying this is reality for a lot of people. I used to work for a charity and delt with poor household all the time. You get single parents with kids and little money, but they want to buy that special preasant to light up their kids faces at Christmas, this is their only option.

Plus inflation.

The benefit of course is that you avoid paying upfront.

Actually it's not bad. You're basically pre-paying for the Scarlet. If you look at it not as an overpriced Xbox, but a console to tide you over until Scarlet arrives, then its a good deal. A previous poster reported that the console is about $399. Instead of buying the console at that price then buying a scarlet and perhaps selling the old console, you can straight upgrade it.

The bonus information we now know is that the Scarlet seems to be in the ballpark of $600-$700 range.

No there Is another option, buying a cheaper model.

Ah yes, locking the dumb-dumbs into 24 months of payments. I'm sure this won't backfire for the financially stupid among gamers. And considering the amount of lootboxes that get sold, there are many of 'em.

Figures, it's in the interest of these finance operations to keep you on the hook for as long as possible.

36 months minimum is a long-ass time :messenger_fearful:

So it's basically them giving XBO-Xs away for free, assuming the monthly payments are counting towards the Scarlett monthly payments in advance and the X is just a tide-me-over?

That's how I look at it. That is of course, they can keep the console in good shape to be able to exchange it. It's similar to phone upgrades.
