The only game from Kojima, I think deserves the title "Masterpiece", is MGS1 (I haven't played his titles prior to that). MGS1 is perfect as it blends a grounded, well written story with top notch gameplay. Every MGS after that fell flat in one or the other category.

Miyazaki made some of the best games ever made, but he still has to prove to me, that he can do something substantially different then a "souls game".

Deciding between the two? Kojima by a slight margin, MGS1 was better then everything miyazaki has made.

Can't do it. It's a tie right now. Bloodborne and Dark Souls are two of the best games of the decade, but so were MGS1-3 in the years before. They've both had disappointing games (DS2, MGS5) and niche cult classics (AC, Snatcher).

Let's see how Death Stranding and Elden Ring go first.

Bloodborne and MGSV:TPP came out around the same time (few months apart) and they both had lore you needed to explore to find. I felt Bloodborne’s execution was perfect in that regard. It rewarded exploration whereas MGSV didn’t. In 2015, Bloodborne gets the nod over the phantom pain.

Kojima was in his prime through everything before MGS3. But it seems it's more his team was doing the leg work whilst he was just the figure head if MGS4 and 5 are anything to go by.

Miyazaki has taken the mantel of story and game-play god for me.

Miyazaki seems like a guy that shuts off and goes to work and produces AAA results. Kojima, I like the guy but now he is just getting on my nerves as most of his posts have to do with some show off, simply guy is addicted to social media and posts the most retarded things trying to be cool. Reminds me too much of what Tomonobu Itagaki became and I hated that guy.

This is a tough one, but I go for Miyazaki. He's been the most influential man in the industry in the last 20 years. It has nothing to do with "stories versus gameplay" because BOTH create great gameplays and stories.

Death Stranding is gonna put Kojima in the spotlight again, but Elden Ring is poised to be one of the Greats , too. I think it's more of a personal tastes to choose one over the other.

One of them focuses more on the story side of things and cinematics and has a few good game design ideas sometimes. Seems he would prefer to work in the movie industry.

The other one focuses in level design and game mechanics, as if he really likes to create good videogames, while the story telling is presented much more subtly.

I'll vote for the one who likes to make games.

Kojima is narcissist who is suffering a midlife crisis. MGS1-3 were great games but they were a cumulation of a great team of devs and designers (Kojima took all the credit for them). After those games Kojima was using games as an end mean to reach Hollywood, he inflated his games budget by - unnecessarily - employing HW starts so they can make grunt noises (Sutherland barely having any script in MGSV)...he is overrated.

Miyazaki in the other hand is laser focused on what he want to achieve as a visionary. He basically created a new genre of gaming. He keeps advancing the medium creating a hit after hit.

Vote goes to Miyazaki.

MGS2 is better for me. The first is an excellent, fun, yarn but the writing in the second game blows it out of the water in terms of its intelligence. It's still relevant too given that it discusses the role of disseminating information, which has become an even more prevalent topic in the social media age. Sure it's about conspiracies, illuminati and all that jazz, but it leaves a valuable message that people should think for themselves rather than rely on others. I also love how it hoodwinks the player, putting them in a position where they shouldn't have believed what they'd seen, read and thought about the game prior to release. It's basically the point the game is trying to make. Tasty cultural theory in practice.

That said, he hasn't made a great game since 2. MGS3 and the subsequent games were fun but about nothing. It'll be interesting to see how Death Stranding fares.

Miyazaki all the way. He is easily the best game director in the world right now and he has made several of my favourite games, including the GOAT which is Bloodborne. He prioritizes gameplay and respects the player by always putting you in focus, without needlessly long cutscenes and dialogue exchange, which Hideo Kojima on the other hand delves too deep into imo, taking away player interaction. With that said, Kojima is nothing to scoff at, true legend who has certainly made his mark on the industry. I guess it´s all up to what you as a player favor, considering they are two completely different directors who make games which artistic direction completely differs from one another.

Unlike Miyazaki, who just went after the most famous writer in the world right now.

Miyazaki is a good director, but he does the same game over and over again.

Kojima has made the better games.

Both have great games they produced, but Kojima has more diverse types of games so I voted for him. And, yes, lately he isn't as great as he used to be, but as of right now, his catalog is better.

Kojima created (and his team obviously, but we are talking directors here) 4 masterpieces Snatcher + mgs1 + mgs2 + mgs3 and one great game mgs5, while Myiazaki created only one masterpiece Dark Souls 1 and one great game Sekiro, all other games were inferior versions of Dark Souls 1 (including Bloodborne).
So my vote goes to Kojima

I've played almost all of Miyazaki's games the only one i haven't played was blood-borne.

I've played Phantom Pain online, only MGS game i played. I tried to play the story but there were a lot of cut scenes i may give it another shot in the future. I wasn't patient enough to get to the good stuff.

Miyazaki easily for me.

Miyazaki, he is extremely dedicated to making games atm - Souls games, Bloodborne, Sekiro. All wonders. Kojima is perfect, but he needs to step up his game a bit.
