New Final Fantasy VII Remake Gets Screenshots Show Spectacular Limit Breaks, Locations, and More

The screenshots showcase various elements of the game including event cutscenes and the battle system.

The battle system encourages you to identify weaknesses and action patterns of the enemies and select magic and abilities accordingly. It combines intuitive actions with the ability to tactically select actions from a command menu.

The game includes seamless transition between exploration and battles, the ability to change characters with the press of a button or to give them commands without needing to switch at all.

Characters have their unique playstyles. Cloud is good at close range while Barret is better at range. On the other hand, Aerith is proficient with magic.

Battle commands such as Ability, Magic, and Item can be selected by consuming the accumulated ATB gauge, which slows down the flow of time. Elements from the original game including limit breaks, summons, and materia have been preserved. The screenshots showcase Aerith’s limit break Healing Wind and Cloud’s Cross Slash.

We also get to see locations including the entrance of the Shinra building, the train, and the Loveless theater.

I really like this! I wonder how strong the materia system will be in this game.
Looks like you'll literally see the slots for the materias in each weapon...

I wonder how they'll fit 16 materias into Tifa's last weapon. You know, being gloves and all.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Minor correction here: That FF7R screenshot of Cloud staring up at a large structure is not Cloud standing before the Shinra building. It's a shot of him in front of a Mako Reactor (presumably #1). The shape is very different from the Shinra Building, which we've seen in the latest trailer when the crew is fighting the Air Buster, I think? And the real giveaway is the billow of smoke at the top of the image.

everyone else looks good only sephiroth looks younger :messenger_confused:
i think his dissidia model is much better than this one
Ehh I'd disagree. Personally, I don't like how the Dissidia models all seem to have the same looking mannequin faces.

Remake Sephiroth actually comes off more unnerving an unhinged than ever. Dissidia Sephiroth in comparison, looks more bishonen, at least imo.
Yeah, he definitely look better than the... emoer? more emo? Version in the remake.
Emo? Not at all.

The shrinra building is the other screenshot with the flags.

Wrong shot.
You guys are right. I was focusing a little too much on Cloud. It also makes more sense to compare an in-game screenshot with another in-game screenshot instead of the cutscene cinematic.

Great screenshots :messenger_smiling_hearts:

This game has a technical and graphic quality already like a nexgen game.

I always loved the contrast between Tifa and Aeris.

Tifa looks like the kind of girl that would invite you to go exploring down by the river, and the pair of you would come home with skinned knees, twigs in your hair, and minor cuts on your forearms.

Aeris would be inviting you around to the tea party she's having with her teddy bears.

The twist comes when Mr. Teddy Bear starts yelling at Mrs. Molly Bear and proceeds to beat her with the tea pot. Meanwhile you start to wonder if you should ask Aerith if she's okay or if the angry rant by Mr. Teddy Bear about Cetra and Jehovah's witnesses is just part of the Tea Party.

Is this game still going to be "episodic"? Or will it be the "full" FF7 game with a world map from the get go?
Depends on how you define episodic.

From what I understand, the first game is going to be entirely Midgar, but that means they are expanding Midgar to encompass a full 40+ hr game. There will be multiple parts, all of which will be full games in and of themselves, all being apart of the overarching FFVII narrative.

I'm thinking there will be 3 parts based on optimism (plus how the fuck are they gonna make it more than that).

As for world maps, we don't know yet.

I always preferred Aerith. Very caring and soothing.

Tifa can kiss my ass.

Yeah bro but...

Aerith going to die in this game

Not sure if it worth investing the time and effort to focus leveling up this character

every time i see footage i get more and more hyped. it looks like FFXV but with less camera problems and more linear and hand-crafted. it is realistic but not dull, there is this cyberpunk haze about it, it matches the atmosphere of Midgar in the original. it looks DAMN good. IMO in spots it legit looks better than Advent Children. may have to buy a PS4 for this.

They are making a 3-5 hours part into a +40 hours one. They can do whatever the f*** they want to release even 7 parts.
I mean, I would be blown away if they released 7 parts and did it well.

While I can definitely see there being enough content for more than 3 full games, it's a big gamble. I don't think the team would want to spread the remake over so many parts unless they were sure they wouldn't fuck it up, because this is Square's golden baby boi Jebus.

Well this image doesn't fill me with confidence that they will handle Sephiroth well in this. Seeing him pop up in the trailers leads me to believe that any sinister mystique of the character in this part of the story will be destroyed by overexposure. In the original players wouldn't know what he looked like till the flashback in Kalm, unless you read the manual or promotional materials.

Secondly, the black wing looks daft and brings to mind Crisis Core and all the unnecessary back story that came with it. If all that gets added it will ruin the story for me. But that is just my opinion, man.
