This looks insane. Does anyone know it the older games supported some sort of "arcade" mode where you could just fly around without doing all the complicated tasks requiring to actually fly a plane ? Would love to see that as a feature in the new game, if not.

Its been so long that i cant remember, i dont think so though. Its probably been designed like this because its coming to console.
I like it though, cut out the bullshit and just let me fly around and have fun.

My only "experience" (if you could even call it that) is Pilotwings on the Super Nintendo, I have Flight Simulator X Steam Edition currently installed and it supports free flight mode. Just pick a plane and take off from the runway. I tend to stick to the smaller planes, particularly the Cessna which is the one used to train beginners IRL.

There are also a few missions with varying levels of difficulty (that's the closest thing to a game part FSX has), and there's even a comprehensive "flight school" mode that teaches you from the basic theory to commercial pilot license test.

This looks really damn impressive. Probably won't buy it myself, but if my brother ever gets around to building his three monitor iRacing rig, I'll recommend this to him. Three monitor support would probably be right up this game's alley; hopefully supported.

My game of the show.

I had the Sublogic Flight Simulator on the Atari 800 Also played on a friends Apple II) which essentially became Microsoft Flight Simulator several years later in the early 80's.

Still bullshit infact it's proper manure and fertilizers, the fuck was that, everything was poor except for flight simulator, everything was shit including the idiots chating about Keanu reeves! There was absolutely nothing interesting.

*looks at the nerd Avasarala Avasarala and giggles* . . . . . . *Solomeena secretly wishes he could get into flight sims as much as people like Avasarala Avasarala , lord knows Solomeena has tried so much over the years....is envious!!!! Needless to say MS:FS and Cybperpunk 2077 are the Simulator and game that will finally get me to build out a whole new beast of a gaming machine for the first time in 3 or 4 years!!!

VR would be insane for this.

I would freaking love it if Microsoft let us use VR for this, i would be beyond thrilled. I would really love it if i could use my Valve Index with the Knuckles controllers.

Why did you bring Flight Simulator back? What led to that moment?

We do have some pilots on the teams that are big fans of flight, and flight sims, and flying themselves, who are passionate about it, so we said, 'okay, let's see what we can do'. Flight Sim was a game in our past that sold millions and millions of units and had a very, very passionate community—in fact, they're still out there. So, okay. Can we do something new with Flight Sim? Can we actually move it forward in an interesting way?

I remember in February or March we were looking at gameplay that we had the option to bring and it was pretty close to what you saw on stage, we saw it [during the Xbox Briefing, the room just went silent as we were looking at this. Afterwards, it was Shannon Loftis [GM of Microsoft Studios Publishing] who brought it in, who happens to be a pilot, and I said, "is that the game?"

"Yeah, that's the game."

'You're going to have to put at the bottom that that's in-game. because nobody's going to believe that's in-game." You notice the video says '4K in-game'. And then I said, "why does it look like that?". There's 2 petabytes of geographical data behind that game, that they're then using Azure AI to stitch the seams together so as you're flying, you're seeing a seamlessly connected Earth. I was like "you've gotta put that in the video because it's one of the coolest things I've ever seen". It's using real geographical data, real weather data, to give you the ability to literally fly around what looks like a living planet.

That's new. To me, that's exciting. They can do it on Xbox and they can do it on Windows and it look like that on stage. This whole thing—'can we really put Flight Sim in an E3 press briefing, because Flight Sim's kind of its own thing, some people don't even call it a game'. But it was visually stunning in my mind. Maybe I'm a little bit too close to it.

To a PC-specific audience it shows you're conscious of them and of your history as a company.

So I'm glad you picked up on that. So Sarah Bond, who's our head of global partnerships, came out, did the Game Pass work with the indie montage and all those games that were coming to Game Pass, then announced Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The next games that were there—I didn't know if the PC community was going to be watching or not, but we went Flight Sim, we went Age, we went Wasteland—I wanted people to know that we want to make sure we're building games and supporting games that respect what the PC community loves.

Xbox Twitter promoting this as a PC game

Someone on reddit posted that Xbox version will be out alongside Scarlett with Ray tracing as current Xbox one consoles including X will not be able to replicate similar graphics as you see in trailer.

It will run on X but will not look that good

You out of your mind if u think it looks like current Xbox one game. Show me which Xbox game look this good lol

And it's not Ray traced yet. But it's also not coming out this year.

You wrong if you think they not gonna use it to showcase Ray tracing with this and Forza 8.

What in your bewildered head looks next gen here? Or is this talk about ps5 and Scarlett turning people mad cause I can't see a difference in this game or halo infinite that looks any different from games like Forza 7 Spiderman or death stranding can you specify anything in this trailer that is next gen to you

Ace combat 7 ran at 1080p 60 FPS on PS4 and that's a war game not a pedestrian plane simulator so don't even start chatting nonsense

Flight simulators are entirely different beasts, they're not just mere videogames. They're not confined to small areas, but the whole planet, with insane draw distances. Even 14 years after it came out, Microsoft Flight Simulator X can still bring the most powerful PCs to their knees when flying above the largest cities.

It's not my problem you can't see graphics details and clear differences. People like you who lack knowledge of graphics technology will not admit the fact how good Flight Simulator looks till DF confirms it in their analysis.

So i won't waste time further by arguing with you. Wait for DF analysis and see for yourself.

You + your graphics knowledge are dumb n I mean completely cow dung, if flight simulator to you looks next gen then you should be sorry because if that is next gen then we don't want it we don't want that crap

Blah blah blah flight simulator 2019 is a current gen game whatever nonsense you can fart your free to do so but that game doesn't look next gen, your simply sounding like the idiots who thought last of us 2 and death stranding where ps5 titles.

And I suppose Phil Spencer farts nonsense too when he's talking to Microsoft's development teams, No? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Spencer warned the team: "You're going to have to put at the bottom that it's in-game, because nobody is going to believe that's in the game".

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Somebody doesn't know what he's talking about, lol. Show us what flight sim looks better considering the vast landscapes and physics calculations they require. It's pretty unprecedented to have that level of micro and macro details all accounted for.

Even non-sim games like GTA5 don't look that good when flying. Not to mention actual sims like DCS or Aeroflight FS2 which are probably the most impressive looking currently.

I guess with that level of ignorance I should expect a screenshot of God of War or something as a reply...

Anyway, really hoping they add some VR support to this even if rudimentary. And that they keep the structure of X with the lessons and flight setting up and everything. It made it so easy to get into when other sims make it hard for newbies to get started and stay interested.

Mate just stop posting, you’re a low IQ troll and no one cares about your opinion. It’s pathetic to read.

No, it's not that. He just doesn't have the vaguest clue what he's talking about. Rating the quality of an industry level flight simulator exclusively on the graphical fidelity is akin to judging the quality of a precision sports-car by how evenly it cuts the lawn.

-------

Shangounchained : The excitement for this product stems from the resurrection of MSFS. As far as rating it on the 'game-ness' - it's the return of a product that's been an industry franchise for thirty five years. The last information I had heard was that the project had been cancelled, and the development team disbanded.

As far as what's exciting about the flight simulator, the graphics aren't the main point to be judged. The point of a flight simulator is an accurate flight model. This software models the way air moves over flight control surfaces, how it's heated to form thermals, weather, wind shear. It simulates the hundreds of systems at play within an aircraft from the radios, navigation, instrumentation, and flight control computers, right through the engine oil temperature and pressure within the hydraulic lines to the flight control surfaces. Differences in air pressure, moisture density, and fuel mixture matter here.

That's not touching on accurate models of navigation systems, airports, communication, etc.

People actually arguing about this? The fact that it got announced on a MS conference means that it will be possible on the xbox one consoles and most likely scaled up for the PC and the next gen scarlet(if they are planning to bring it to the new console).

Nitty_Grimes

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
I just wanna play it on my X1X, I couldn’t give a toss about ray and his tracing abilities.

Flying a 777 on a ultra long 12+ hour flight at 39,000 feet is going to mean more to me than graphical effects on the plane fuselage.

We are dumb and you who dunno Jack shit about anything is smart, right,?

Just shut up for now and wait for analysis then only you will get what im trying to tell you in your thick head

If past microsoft flight sims are anything to gauge this buy, then sure this will run on the xbox one x at ~5fps. The obsessive simulation depth requires cpu power even most pc's can't keep up with.

This is mine for sure! Can’t wait, I remember early 2000’s playing this on my cousins rig. Nuts!!
