I'm a jaded gamer, and I don't get excited for any game anymore. This has me all moist in my trousers. I still don;t know what it's about, but that's a part of the appeal to me. Bring it!

Isn't this game coming out too quickly for a kojima game?

not really. tbh it is kind of annoying all the "wow this isn't taking a decade?" talk. Kojima games take 3 or so years from announcement to release:

Ground Zeroes: announced August 2012
The Phantom Pain: released September 2015

MGS4: announced E3 May 2005
Released June 2008

MGS3: announced E3 May 2004
MGS: Subsistence Released 2006

Great trailer. And I like the message of reconnecting people with each other. It reminds me a little bit of the conversation between GW and Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2 (where he mentions people isolating themselves in the digital era).

I'm also not sure why some people continue to ask about the gameplay. I had no trouble understanding it. If you're just not interested in Death Stranding, that's fine, but the "I don't understand what I just saw" reaction is getting old.

Finally we're told what this crazy game is supposed to be about.

I'm glad there's a semi-grounded science fiction story to tie all this weirdness together, I dig it, very Evangelion/Serial Experiments Lain esque.

The game looks incredible, the story looks mind bending and cool, the cut scenes play out like a movie and it's so well done but I've got to say the actual gameplay looks kind of shit.

To me it seems like they have this great story and cinematic narrative but didn't know how to really translate it into a game.

The walking and running animations in some places don't look so smooth. Not sure if it is the video or actual animations are like that.

Its like, i wanna be hyped for this like the entire internet is, but i get hyped for games for gameplay, and what we have seen so far looks incredibly generic or they are not showing the best aspects of the gameplay and/or mechanics.

According to benji, Death Stranding exceeded 2.1 million views on youtube in 6 hours only. This makes it the fastest game trailer viewed and liked in 2019 in front of jedi fallen star wars.

I could really use a ladder like the one in the trailer...

That being said, I still have no idea what the focus of the gameplay will be.

Some stealth and third person action but they aren’t revealing much.

You know when actors get interviewed about movies they star in and say 'I didn't even know what happened until I saw the movie like you guys' I feel like this is Kojima.. It's like he develops this game and someone asks, what's it like and he's like I don't know I've never played it! LOL

This game is gonna be a Juggernaut , gameplay looks incredibly diverse... going from relaxed traversal and problem solving with asynchronous online elements to aid you, to evading and fighting bandits, to almost horror gameplay to avoid the other world beings, boss battles and of course the world war 1 sections that seem very action oriented.
Needles to say the story will be interesting , even though I prefer walls to ropes.

Did you all see the boss battle clip? The motorcycle looks really cool too.
Views on the video are going crazy.

So the official website actually explains things a lot more clearly. It's interesting how specific Sony marketing will have to be in its messaging for this game considering the obscure concepts involved. I feel a heavy Dark Souls influence already:

What is Death Stranding?

From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid) comes an all-new, genre-defying open world action adventure for PS4, starring Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux and Lindsay Wagner.

In the near future, mysterious explosions have rocked the globe, setting off a series of supernatural events known as the Death Stranding. With otherworldly creatures plaguing the landscape, and mass extinction imminent, it’s up to Sam Porter Bridges to travel across the ravaged wasteland and save humanity from impending annihilation.

Face unique challenges

Arm yourself and take aim at a variety of objectives in your mission to reunite a broken nation, while balancing under the weight of your cargo as you travel. Protect your supplies from wild bandits, and stay safe from the terrifying Beached Things… or face failing those who depend on you.

Death is not the end

There is no traditional ‘game over’ state in Death Stranding. Lose your life during combat and you’ll find yourself in an upside-down realm, searching for a way back to the living. Choose your combat methods carefully, as killing your foe is almost never the solution – and every death carries a consequence

Assist other players

Help other travellers without ever crossing paths via asynchronous online gameplay. Send supplies, share safe houses and walk in the footsteps of fellow couriers to reunite civilization.

There's going to be an entire generation of young gamers going to Gamestop to pick this up because of word of mouth, that will never in their lives saw a game with creativity and imagination like this. It's going to blow their minds and create a new demand for fresh experiences. This is good for gaming.

Kojima hit a turn on his career with MGS4, btw hasn't gameplay always been ripped apart from reviewers?
Do you play Kojima games? Cause gameplay is the main draw but the story is always great too. MGSV was heavily praised for it's gameplay and systems, particularly the freedom it granted players with mechs, partners, fulton and arm mods. Kojima also creates the most amazing characters and boss battles that challenge you mentally well beyond just shooting weak spots...

Edit: The way i started this was rude, i apologize.

Yes, it's probably coming out too quickly, because PS4 is at the end of its life-cycle. So most likely, Sony pushed Kojima to make a 2019 lauch-window happen.
My guess is that an enhanced/upgraded version might appear for PS5 sometime in future.
But for the time being, I bet my shirt that Sony pressed Kojima to have the game out by 2019.
Perhaps he would have rather wanted/preferred its development to be extended until Fall 2020 or something.....

That's the way it was with me and Metal Gear Solid 2, I was still a kid when I played it, it totally blew my mind in a way nothing had before, game or otherwise.

I mean it was basically a life changing event, got me to look at the world in a different way.

Much like when I played MGS1.

I sincerely hope there is much less focus on gunplay and more focus given towards traversal and non-comabtive gameplay. Those tool mechanics have got me the most excited tbh. Next-gen, I would love to see more AAA games give players more agency beyond shoot/kill/defeat. It can potentially lead to a new means to tell stories, at least imo.

My screenshot folder for Death Stranding will definitely end up being in the gigabytes haha.

Whether this game succeeds is left to be seen, but as an artist myself, The visual majesty Kojima has created here should not be ignored. At its current state, it's already visually and creatively a masterpiece IMO.

Agree 100%. I would be happy if there was no shooting at all in a game this visually intriguing
Yoji Shinkawa the GOAT!
Of course. I should pay my respect. Without him, this game wouldn't be possible.

I usually never watch trailers, especially for Kojima games since mgs2 or 3...but I had to know a bit more.

Well, of course day one.

I love Kojima's artist. And I love how that cover looks like it could fit on any MGS game.

Also you can tell that even when he's not doing MGS, it still comes out as MGS. It's just the way he tells stories. In other words it's not like Metal Gear was told the way it was told because it was specific to Metal Gear, it was told that way because of who was telling the story.

You can take away the man's IP, but you can't take away his talent.

No. MGS2 took 3 years, MGS3 took 3 years and MGS4 took 4 years. MGSV released on 2015 and Death Stranding coming 2019 so that’s 4 years. Seems his time innit?

This looks wonderful.
As someone who hasn't really been excited about many exclusives for either gen this side.
This feels like the new IP that I've been waiting for.

Should also note that with MGSV he built the Fox Engine from nothing. In this case, the Decima engine was handed to him, no doubt saving a ton of time and resources.
