Dark Souls Remastered |OT| Souls Remastered

Cleared out Blighttown and not a single framedrop I experienced. Was a joy to play through, as always. Despite the previews saying that Blighttown ran smooth I had to see it for myself. It warms my heart to see the Switch handle the most notorious area of the last decade with ease. Been comparing it to the PS4-version and besides the framerate, it´s not that big of a difference. It lacks some graphical fidelity such as the fire and fog effects, but overall, it looks pretty darn great with a side by side comparison. And the audio compression, who received criticism for being muffled, feels exaggerated. I have played through roughly half of the game and I have only heard it once, and that was the narrator in the beginning when the camera pans towards the Asylum, which was the exact same clip Digital Foundry showed and pointed out in their video. The problem is, they made it sound like this issue is prominent throughout the game, which it clearly isn´t. The critic against the Switch-version so far feels like cherry picking, so that it can fuel the fanboys and their petty console crusader war and say: "Ha! See, the Switch runs on inferior hardware, lol, what a piece of shit."

Games are linked to the console not the account. That for me is reason enough for not getting ANYTHING digital in nintendo consoles.
Fake news, games are linked to an account and the account is linked to the console which means you have to call Nintendo if you want to unlink the account for any reason. You can't just lose all your digital games if you pay attention.

Getting my ass handed to me by Sif. I´m SL 40 by now and are about to enter Sen´s, but I thought I would take on the Wolf first. Seems he gets the better of me for now. Gonna place my summon sign there when I get home from work, hopefully it will be jolly co-op. Joined Warriors of Sunlight too which gets me one step closer to my Paladin. Ditched Astora´s Sword and got meself a Divine Claymore and it rocks. Gonna fit me well till I get my hands on Artorias blade and the Grant. Throwing Lightning Spears is nice but the windup is really long, like 3-4 seconds. By that time the enemies have put my head on a stake and used it for their next meal. Feels good with ranged miracles, been mainly using utility for now and that doesn´t feel sunbro at all.

Didn't you clear the game on another system? Why would Sif give you trouble on Switch? 0o

Yes, I´ve beaten DS multiple times. I don´t know why Sif was so hard now, I probably just had a bad day you know, couldn´t really focus on the fight. Anyway, he´s done for now and I have recently arrived at Anor Londo. Gonna look forward to portable O & S at work later.

Anor Londo is so beautiful. You can tell that Fromsoft gave it their best here. It´s such a creative and fun level that I never get tired of playing it. And those Silver Knight Archers are still a nightmare seven years later. I experienced my first crash yesterday. I was about to kindle the bonfire at Sen´s when the game froze, and I had to exit and close the application. First time ever for me on the Switch. I hope it was just a one time only. Other than that, I´m still in awe over how good of a port this is. Dark Souls is breathtaking on the small screen. I´ve also had some co-op fun at Sen´s, helped out with a boss and summoned myself. No invasions yet though. Gonna try my hand at the forest later and see how that goes. The online still feels a bit empty, was hoping for more activity. Well, now I´m getting ready for the big fight, I am so excited to see how this battle will turn out.

I can go to my friend's home and play my PS4 games there if I login with my account. That's a normal and good account system.

Can't do the same with a Switch.

That was my point.

I’m in the Painted World dying over and over in the sewers and I love it.

I wonder how people that have only played DS3 will like the game. Specifically what will they think of the skeleton wheels :p they nerfed these enemies in the sequels and tbh I’m kind of glad cos I already went through them before. Even when you know how to deal with them they are still the most dangerous enemy!

Demons is pretty great. i only got around to it after playing DS3 and was amazed at how much Demon's is in all the souls games. most of the time when people complain about the other games ripping off DS1 they are actually ripping off Demon's.

that said, the interconnected world of DS1 is really very special, moreso since they never really returned to this style of world design.

also i got to give props to DS1 for introducing forests, which aren't in Demon's at all. they end up being the best forest areas in the series -- the foggy, mysterious Darkroot Garden/Basin and the nostalgic Royal Wood.

Thats not true. Games are tied to your nintendo id on switch. I was able to redownload mario kart 8 and zelda on my second switch with no issues.

Edit: ok so you were referring to your account being tied to a single system. Thats a different story

I think the land of the giants was going to have a snowy forest area, but was never finished. Dark souls 1 still has the ugliest area out of the souls games, lost izalith. The area is just really boring, you run past a bunch of giant headless skeleton turkeys, and lava. The area could have been a lot better. Ash lake is the only area also with music. Though the only thing to do there is become a dragon bro. The area also could have been a lot better, like adding a boss or something else.

Ds3 was the first i successfully beat. Going back to 1 via the remaster when it lqunched and all i can say is: fuck those guys.

Also the snipers of anor londo can go straight to hell as well.

Been laying down my summon sign for O & S and not a single summon to be seen. Tried my luck at Sif, but it was a no go there too. Either I´m shit of luck or the online community is already dead. Or maybe it takes a while for the Nintendo crowd to get warm in their clothes? O & S is usually my go to place when helping out and farming sun medals but it´s a wasteland out here. Bummer. I´m ready to go down the Catacombs and Tomb of the Giants to get my Paladin gear. These two areas are not the most fun so it´s better to have it over and done. I have a +5 divine claymore for all those skeletons out there.

Finally got my hands on the Paladin Armor. Tomb of the Giants was a fucking nightmare with only the Skull Lantern as light source. But now I have the armor and sanctus (and it´s sooo sexy), only gotta level up for Grant and I´m close to cosplaying as Garl Vinland. Still a long way to go though. I need to farm sunlight medals also for rank rewards, but the online is deader than dead here.

this game seeems like it died, no summons, nothing.

i got invaded twice yesterday and i summoned for O&S. it's been working fine for me.

kind of crazy how much the DLC is reminding me of Bloodborne. they made Dark Souls then they did the DLC before making Bloodborne, so it's like a preview of that game in a lot of ways. to get there you get sucked into another place via an interdimensional tentacle demon/vortex in space/time, which is more a BB thing (DS usually has you transported by animals/beasts). there are the straw people wielding pitchforks like BB's angry mobs. there is Marvelous Chester, a time traveler right out of BB, wearing a tophat. there are all the multi-eyed monsters. all the DLC boss fights place a lot of emphasis on dodging, and Manus shares a lot of visual traits that BB's bosses would end up having.

One thing I hate with this game is that the bonfire you warp to doesn´t automatically becomes your default bonfire when you die. I warp to my destination, then go and explore for a couple of minutes, dies and BAM I wake up in the previous area I visited. So annoying. Anyway, just accessed the DLC. Took down Sanctuary Guardian with relative ease. He´s really simple. Artorias on the other hand, he is always a true test of ones spirits. Fucking love this DLC!

So I did this the wrong way. Started with BB and moved to DSRM after. I'm so used to parrying in BB that that's all I try to do in DS. I forget the block button exists. I feel like this isn't normal. I'm also getting my ass handed to me on more than one occasion because of it compared to BB. Should I emphasize blocking more than parrying in this? Or do I need to just get my timing down in this game?

This. At least till you get used to the combat.

Also, you shouldn´t play DS as you play BB. They are two different beasts when it comes to gameplay. In DS you have to take it slow and methodical, keep your shield up and look for an opening.

Oh jeez no. Yeah, I'm playing it the polar opposite. I'm going in rushdown and just using the shield for parrying. The only time I've brought it up is to deflect arrows. And it seems way easier to get ganged-up on in DS so playing with a focus on defense might be wiser.

I'm really going to have to retrain myself on this game.

parrying is all about timing, and it is OP. if you can master it then DS will be a breeze. you will be parrying the final boss like it's nothing. but beware, not all attacks can be parried, so you do need to dodge or at least block. learn the enemy's movesets and when it is time to parry. no doubt there are youtube tutorials on this.

i started playing this after finishing BB as well, and found myself not backing off when i should. going through Estus flasks on just a couple of enemies cos i was so used to healing all the time. my instincts from BB had been tuned to keep attacking in order to regain health, a mechanic that isn't in this game. it def takes some time to adjust.

You know if you go back you can fight double Sanctuary Guardians

its kind of a useful mechanic if you use it right. you can warp to Painted World and then Chaos Storm to farm souls and quickly Homeward Bone back to where you just where, which wouldn't be possible. otherwise you would have to travel through the level and fall to the room in Anor Londo bnefore you can bonfire back.

I know. Double Sanctuary Guardians is a very tough challenge, I´ll admit that.

Yep. There's a vid in this thread that's all about parrying. I glanced at it. Probably should watch the whole thing. I usually have about a 75% success rate with parrying. It's not so much the attacks that I have an issue with but when they change up the timing on the windup animation. Am I just imagining that or is that actually happening? Like, a grunt will have one attack but it can come out at two or three different speeds. Either way, I'm only at Undead Parish so I have a long way to go. I'll focus on D for now.

Haha. Yep, so used to rushdown to get that precious life back. That's another thing that I'm forgetting: You don't recover vitality by quickly going on the attack.

Died maybe 20 times on Bed of Chaos. I have never had this much trouble with this boss. Was about to go insane. What broken mess that is, it has no entertainment value whatsoever. Started to grow bored with my paladin build. I´m more for fast rolling so I´ve changed to Shadow Armor and switched up my Divine Claymore with Black Knight Greataxe. And holy shit is this thing OP. The swings are really fast and hit hard as hell. Gonna try some different weapons now but I´m mainly gonna use this axe until I can get my hands on Artorias Greatsword and combine it with Cleansing Greatshield. Should make for an interesting character.

Never tried it actually. Never been a fan of halberds, even if it was a halberd that saved my life when I was a rookie and played the game for the first time :) But after my first run I never tried it again, probably because I discovered all the other cool weapons in the game. But I like Black Knight Weapons so maybe should do a Black Knight Build someday.

Manus is on track to becoming my favourite boss in the entire franchise. He is so much fun to battle. He has insane moves, looks ridiculously intimidating and you can summon a younger Sif to assist you. He doesn´t do much, but from a lore perspective it just so damn cool. I summon him all the time now. My next challenge is cutting off Kalameets tail for the Obsidian Greatsword. I´ve never done that before so it´s gonna be interesting to see if I can do it. Other than that, it´s only Gwyn left now before NG+. My character is becoming a real bad ass now. The Black Knight Greataxe decimates everything in its path. I am close to 600 AR now with this beast.

They should give the option to download the 44.1Khz/48Khz sound as DLC for the Switch version, some things just don't sound as good in 22Khz. :lollipop_grinning:

Who said online was dead for Switch again? I'm going around kindling bonfires and getting invaded left and right, specially in dark Anor Londo. >.>

I'm around lvl 60.

i finally beat the game. i killed Gwyn in one attempt. is it me or does the final area look a little different? it feels like the sky is a little brighter but maybe i just haven't played in a while.

when it started NG+ i decided to try and get the secret ending as i've actually never gotten it before. i figured with all my endgame gear it would be easy. i ran through and killed all the bosses on the way to Sif in one go, killed him and got the Abyss ring, then made it back to Firelink, and onwards to New Londo Ruins to pursue an early game Four Kings. the ghosts in the Ruins fucked me up! i died several times over and over in spite of being leveled up with endgame weaponry, not even getting to drain the city, so i decided to put it away for the evening.

the game is endlessly replayable.

Got to Anor Londo in NG+ before I decided to start a new character. I got tired of my paladin, I´m much more of a dex guy, and I also kinda fucked up the stats too. So I´ve decided to do a bleed build with Flamberge and daggers and rocking Kirks Set for that badass looks. It´s so much fun, did crazy damage against the Stray Demon, bleeding him out. Cannot wait until I get my hands on the Gold Tracer. Going down in the Depths now SL 25. Gotten a lot more action with co-op/pvp too. I spent a couple of hours in the forest and that was real fun. Also got summoned a few times. Good times.

new update and i believe they have fixed the bug with the cliff diving loot farming forest hunters. for me it was not adding up the fallen enemies to my souls total until i went up the stairs, now it is working as it is supposed to.

is anyone experiencing some weird enemy placement? feel like they mixed it up in a few spots. sometimes the 3rd snake guy in Sen's fortress is missing, sometimes he is there. wtf?

This has happened to me too. I´ve also encountered the same phenomenon in Duke´s Archives where one of the Channelers suddenly disappears and is nowhere to be seen, only to resurface when I die or refresh at the bonfire.

Me neither. I actually prefer 30 when it comes to Souls. Feels much better overall to play. And Switch has it locked down to 30 constantly. Played around 100 hours now and only noticed one single framedrop, when I bled out Demon Firesage. Other than that, rock solid. It´s also funny how the mind tricks you in the graphics department when you switch from handheld to tv. In handheld it´s like "Dayyyym, those graphics looks sick" and when you put it on the tv it´s like "Yeah, it´s okay, nothing fancy but does the job." I showed one of my co-workers some gameplay of Dark Souls when I played it handheld and he got really impressed with it, he said he hadn´t owned a handheld since Gameboy and was stunned by how far technology had come :) And it sure has.

im on my second playthrough, going with a magic build this time, and i want to do the Darkseeker storyline. this means beating the Four Kings before placing the Lord Vessel. i'm having a tough time! my magic is doing v little damage.

any tips for a magic build? guessing i should level up this short sword to a magic weapon and use that rather than relying on spells. or is pyro the way to go i this case?

Don't summon npc's to help you in the fight against the 4 kings, don't summon anyone unless they are going to help for sure. if you summon anyone each king comes into the fight much quicker than in solo
