Always a fun topic.

Now that botw has been out a while what do your rankings look like ?

1. Link to the Past
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Breath of the Wild
4. Majoras mask
5. Wind Waker
6. Twilight princess
7. Zelda 1
8. Links awakening
9. Link between worlds
10. Skyward sword
11. Zelda 2

Minish cap and the Oracle games are good but not as good for me as the games above. Also I've played and beat the first two four swords which are great but not as good as the games above.

I've never played spirit tracks and phantom hourglass wasn't great.

Edit - forgot skyward sword. Added it above

Best to worst:

A Link to the Past
Link's Awakening
Zelda 2
A Link Between Worlds
The Wind Waker
Twilight Princess
Breath of the Wild
Majora's Mask
Ocarina of Time
Skyward Sword
The Minish Cap
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
The Legend of Zelda
Phantom Hourglass
Spirit Tracks

Played everything but the CD-I games. Not counting the multiplayer games. 2D and 3D are different animals, but it's easy for me to rank them in terms of amount of fun I had (just as if I was doing an all-time list).

My personal ranking, #1 and #2 are super close, the DLC could change it.

1. Majora's Mask
2. Breath of the Wild
3. Ocarina of Time (3D)
4. Link's Awakening
5. A Link to the Past
6. Wind Waker
7. Twilight Princess
8. A Link Between Worlds
9. The Oracle games
10. Skyward Sword
11. The Minish Cap
12. The Legend of Zelda
13. Zelda 2
14. Spirit Tracks
15. Phantom Hourglass

TP over BotW, MM and OoT. Come on, son.

What's so hard to believe about this? OoT is a game made on the N64 that without any texture packs looks almost unplayable for anyone interested in having a cohesive art style and immersive game. Times have moved on.

Original OP's post has BotW below Ocarina, which is just notalgia and nothing more IMO. BotW is the best Zelda yet easily for my tastes, so that is a bit wild, but I'm not gonna get crazy TP has some good dungeons. Next would probably be Wind Waker and then LttP for me after BotW.

Ocarina might not even be ahead of the original for me. I just can't really get into it anymore. Now if they remake that thing it would ascend slowly to the top probably.

It's true. I'm not ranking them how They would be now but some of how I felt at the time playing them. I tried to go back and play Oot on the 3ds but I couldn't do it. I would kill for a remake in the botw engine.

OoT still looks better than ALttP and LBW.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
1. Breath of the Wild
2. A Link Between Worlds
3. Wind Waker HD
4. A Link to the Past
5. Ocarina of Time

Oh wow, I've always loved A Link to the Past, but I didn't know it was considered the best by many of you. I guess I've always seen the most love for Ocarina of Time and figured the mass consensus was that was the favorite.

I think I'd put Breath of the Wild on top though.

I haven't played BotW yet but weapon repairs makes me want to completely avoid it, as it does with any other game that features it.

So I can't offer a very complete list but Twilight Princess is by far my favourite.

Majora
Ocarina
Twilight
Seasons
Ages
Windwaker
LttP
Minish Cap
Links Awakening
BotW
Albw
Skyward
Zelda OG
Zelda II

No opinion on four swords

To be honest my Zelda rankings (aside from the very top ones) change all the time as I'm often replaying them and discovering new stuff or reappraising stuff I thought did or didn't work first time around. I'm not a big fan of Majora so l'll leave it off to avoid arguments, it's the only one I didn't stick with long enough to finish and I haven't played it since release anyway. Can't even remember why I ditched it at this point. Suffice to say, generally with LBW and BotW I think they are back on track personally. For the most part I prefer the 2D games as they feel much tighter and more action-packed to me. LTTP remains not just my favourite Zelda game but my favourite game I've ever played.

LTTP
LBW
BotW
LA
OoT (the 3DS version)
Minish Cap
Wind Waker
Legend of Zelda
Twilight Princess
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
Spirit Tracks
Skyward Sword
Zelda II
Phantom Hourglass

1. Majora's Mask, this is the best Zelda game that I have ever played.
2. Windwaker, an under baked Zelda game but I enjoyed it and it was the first Zelda game I played.
3. Twilight Princess, I like Link design, the story, dungeons and the characters.
4. Ocarina of Time, really sets the tone of Link going on a grand adventure.
5. Spirit Track, Zelda was the best companion on the game.
6. Minish Cap, my first 2D Zelda game and I enjoyed it even though it was a bit short.
7. Phantom Hourglass, it was like a portable windwaker
8. Link Awakening, I like the game but it woefully needs a remake.
9. Oracle of Season/Ages, felt like one long adventure.
10. Four Swords Adventure, even though I played this on my own I had a lot of fun playing it.

Mediocre tier; Breath of the Mild, Link Between World.

Trash tier; Triforce Heroes.

Note; I haven't fully played Zelda 1+2 and I don't remember much of Link To The Past and would need to replay it sometime in the future as when I first played it just as I was getting into the Zelda series and was struggling a bit with 2D Zelda games.

Skyward Sword is off the list as I plan to replay that game sometime in the future so my feeling on that game might change, but my general census is that I enjoyed it.

  5. TMC
  6. LA(DX)
  7. OoT

  12. TP
  13. ALttP

The order fluctuates a bit every day, but it should be something like that. I think that's all the Zeldas I've played.

Repairs? As far as I know, only a very few can be repaired. Most break from accidentally slamming the ground or throwing it.

Breath of the Wild

that's it

Explanation: I actually hate Zelda games (Played OoT, MM, WW, ST, Z1 and 2) with the exception of Zelda 1. Breath of the Wild did the impossible and made me love a Zelda game.

For me, it would be:

1) Breath of the Wild
2) Link to the Past
3) Link's Awakening
4) Ocarina of Time
5) Wind Waker HD
6) Minish Cap
7) Link Between Worlds
8) Oracle of Ages/Seasons

Everything after that I don't feel strongly about one way or the other. I'm generally just not a fan of the 3D Zelda games, I hated the DS games and while I have a lot of nostalgia for the NES games, they are definitely not my favorites, haha.

Breath of the wild
A Link between worlds
Link's Awakening

That speaks volumes about it as a Zelda game.

My list:
OoT
MM
WW
TP
lttp
OoA/OoS
MC
LA
a link between worlds
BotW
SS
ST
PH

Just the ones that I like the most and have a definitive opinion on:

1. Twilight Princess
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Breath of the Wild
4. A Link to the Past
5. Skyward Sword
6. Link's Awakening
7. Wind Waker
8. Majora's Mask

I consider all of those truly great games.

I am somehow not that fond of the other handheld and NES games. I know this and the ranking itself is probably stuff for the "raise the flame shield" thread, but.. that's just how I feel, can't help it.

Than LttP with a good CRT filter? Yeah no. OoT looks absolutely bonkers terrible without the texture pack on Dolphin forums IMO. Still has some good dungeons but yeah.

I feel like Zelda rankings are all just notalgia. I guess that matters in some sense, but in others it just kind of makes people think things that are not true. Recently replaying OoT even with a texture pack and it just doesn't hold up that well.

Now Mario 64 did actually hold up with its new texture pack. They really hit that one out well. But yeah not even close to as good as the Galaxy games because of poor controls alone.

The N64 has terrible controls. And for that reason alone I dislike these games more with every passing year.

There is probably no games out now that deserve to be remade more than the N64 Zelda duo.

I hate this mechanic in most games but it was good in BotW and encourages a certain type of play. There's little in terms of micromanagement (i.e. repairs), instead you just chuck items close to breaking or save them for when they're needed most. It also adds a lot of value to all weapons including the mid-tier and weaker common weapons.

It's not a reason to avoid the game.

...
CDI. CDI Zeldas
Absolute Garbage. Twilight Princess

The only Zeldas I've never played are Skyward Sword and the 2nd Spirit Tracks whatever.

smh at everyone putting BotW ahead of Majora

these lists will be hilarious a couple zelda games from now when the hype for BotW has died down.

I despise weapon breakage in games, and while it is definitely annoying early on in BotW, it's not a reason to skip the game. Even as someone who doesn't consider it GotY, I strongly urge you not to miss it.

Breath of the Wild, for being the most accessible open-world game I've ever played, in the spirit of the first game.

Ocarina of Time, for giving real cohesion to the Zelda story-universe while offering a compelling first attempt at open exploration in a 3D fantasy action-RPG setting.

Link's Awakening, for being a very pure 2D Zelda experience with its own distinct flavor and charm thanks to its setting, story, and characters.

The Legend of Zelda, for being one of the first ambitious open-world action RPGs with seamless battles that didn't play out on a separate stage.

Majora's Mask, for going balls deep on the idea of a realistic schedule for NPCs that made me really invested in their lives and the places where they live.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
Oracle of Ages
A Link to the Past
A Link Between Worlds
Twilight Princess
Oracle of Seasons
The Wind Waker
Skyward Sword
The Minish Cap
Spirit Tracks
Four Swords Adventures
Phantom Hourglass
Four Swords
Tri Force Heroes

Ultimately OOT and Majora are terribly clunky, linear, and not at all emergent while BotW has modern controls, non-linear as early Zelda games, and has lots of emergent gameplay.

Nostalgia is clouding your eyes.

But at least you're not a Twilight Princess apologist, right?

I hate that mechanic in general. In BotW it's alright. You're generally getting good weapons often enough that it doesn't matter and there are reliable places to go pick great gear up after every blood moon.

Spoken like someone who has never watched a speed run.

My *personal* list is:

Wind Waker
Ocarina of Time
Breath of the Wild
A Link to the Past
A Link Between Worlds
Twilight Princess
Minish Cap
Phantom Hourglass
Majora’s Mask

I’ve got some big Zelda gaps tho
