Wkd BO 07•07-09•17 - Minions cede dominion over box office, Homecoming KING

Man these Dunkirk impressions are through the roof. If final reviews echo the same vibe I wonder what sort of effect it will have on it's BO

Mojo has actuals up. Spider-Man's actual was less than 0.1% off the estimate.

Baby Driver increased to $13.0M. Wonder Woman dropped to $9.8M. DM3 dropped to $33.6M
Great news for Baby Driver.

Probably long legs and Oscar hype given the subject matter. Probably a rerelease in the fall/winter even?

Same. And here is my dirty secret, never seen a Hollywood film in an IMAX ever. But this movie seems made for it so I'm driving 50 miles to the nearest one to experience it

oh man, it's great. the sound systems they have installed for those theaters are next level as well which seems to be a big part of Dunkirk so it's a no brainer

Hahaha no songs oh god. In case someone was wondering if these unnecessary live action remakes could get any shittier.

Keep destroying your classics Disney.

Beauty and the Beast kept the songs and it was still the worst movie I've seen all year.

With Mulan I think they should just watch wonder woman on repeat in their preproduction because Jenkins pretty much nailed the blueprint for it with Wonder Woman

I like this idea. Skip the songs, focus on the drama. I have a love/hate relationship with Mulan. The songs and the comedic bits just pull me out, but when it is focused on her and serious it is so good.

I wholeheartedly love Mulan. Including the music and mushu. But yeah. They should scrap that for the movie for sure and just focus more pointedly on the story and drama.

And hopefully some kick ass action.

I'll Make a Man Out of You is the only memorable song in Mulan. Reflection is good but can be skipped and no one would care.

That's true for me.

Anyway, isn't Mulan a couple years away still?

Just read John Oliver got cast as Zazu in Lion King, so I'm assuming that's next, followed by Aladdin? What's up with Little Mermaid?

They can never top 'I'll make a man out of you' anyway.
I don't mind the music sans vocals running during a training montage, but I doubt it'll work in live action with vocals.

I dont mind being wrong here. GOAT Disney song.

Yeah, I don't think $100 domestic is particularly probable, but is it at least possible, K-Swiss?

That 38% hold while Spidey hit was better than I thought it'd do.

Mulan is like missing a whole 15 minutes in the middle of it where the huns are actually supposed to be some level of threatening and those characters feel like they're in over their heads. As is, they literally are coming over a hill and get beat by a fucking firework. And then the main bad guy shows up, and gets beat by another fucking firework. And then they brazenly try to recreate what worked in Aladdin with the fast-talking celebrity buddy, and the silent animal sidekicks who actually contribute nothing but acouple gags.

Man, Mulan sucks.

Saw Baby Driver again tonight. Liked it even more than the first time.

Nothing will top Hot Fuzz as far I'm concerned when ranking Wright movies but the dude is 5 for 5 in my book. All original movies and all written and directed by him. That's an excellent track record.

It's the message that counts.

I just like the songs honestly, don't really remember much about the movie except for that ending where she decides to go home instead of being the emperor's advisor, I thought that was really dumb.

We already had our shallow mid-90's-ass "GIRLS CAN DO IT TOO" Disney movie with Brave, and it wasn't much better there either. For all the talking up of Mulan, by the time I actually saw it (a movie I was actually really into conceptually), it's woefully unsatisfying in almost every degree. They need to put in some fucking work to make this story good. But considering how insanely unambitious Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast are, I doubt that's happening.

Atleast Maleficent had some kind of a unique angle to justify its existence, its own flaws aside. And Jungle Book was a technical marvel if nothing else.

That 38% hold while Spidey hit was better than I thought it'd do.

John Wick 2 made $28M in the week following its second weekend. Baby Driver made $27.5M. John Wick 2 was a bit more than $1M ahead of Baby Driver after its second weekend.

John Wick 2 finished at $92M.

It is possible that Baby Driver has better legs in its later run. John Wick's weekly drops weren't amazing. It only had one week that was down less than 45% in its first two months.

EDIT: Also, my somewhat local drive-in theatre has Baby Driver as the second feature to Spider-Man starting this Thursday. If that was the case elsewhere, Spider-man could actually be helping Baby Driver some.

Poor Dehaan. He's a good actor, but after Amazing Spider-Man 2, A Cure For Wellness and now Valerian his future ain't looking so bright.

They were trying to grab your prize. They work for the mercenary. The masked man.

He better hope that Max Landis Chronicle 2 script gets made one day.
