Anthem gameplay trailer. [EA/Bioware, PC/XB1/PS4, Fall 2018]

That moment when he dived into to sea sold me on this game. Should have a decent story too, unlike Destiny at launch, considering it's Bioware.

But... is it even a RPG?

He was asking if he could play as a RPG...

Also, is it actually SP, or just soloing the online mode. As far as I am aware games like the Division and Destiny...no one seems to buy them as SP...I mean an actual campaign that can be played online or offline...or at least as an SP campaign with a story, missions, etc...

Looks amazing...but its Bioware...might wait few months just to make sure it runs properly

I want to be hyped, but think it looks a little too good to be true, I especially wonder how things will look on the OG PS4 and the One. Also wonder if itll be like Destiny strikes or team based 'raids', or that it has a different type of endgame.

Except it isn't as "RPG" can be anything from surface level customisation and a few skill trees layered over the top of a shooter to Morrowind.

Okay... It's a Bioware RPG, so a shit-ton of shooting and a skill tree with possible Mech customization.

In other words it's probably going to be as bare-bones as possible without annoying the fans.

All I really care about is if there's an actual offline SP game. Otherwise it's a no-buy.

Looks great (like most Frostbite games do). Kinda light on the information but as its coming fall 2018 we get to see more next E3 I guess.

There's no way this isn't simply indicative VS gameplay. It's all too smooth. Unless the UI simply didn't exist and they put it on in post, because it's just too perfect. Might be made worse by the fake friends teaming up nonsense?

I mean, don't get me wrong: I want this. I would pay stupid money for this. I want it. But this doesn't feel even slightly real to me.

I feel the same way. This wasn't "real" gameplay. This was a engine showcase trailer. Gameplay-wise, considering this will be open world, none of what was shown makes sense. It does look really good though.
But maybe it's a good thing that this isn't what the game will play like because the enemy encounters and the loot system they showed didn't make any sense.

People get hyped way too easily.

After all the shit you've heard about Bioware having troubles with Frostbite, all the years of bullshots from this company alone, people wills till be fooled.

It was just a sequence of pre-scripted events with pre-scripted "these people are friends for real" dialogue that's so painfully contrived that i'm surprised people even put up with it.

This was this E3's The Division trailer, and it wasn't even as well done. At least Ubisoft is good at making believable promises that are blatant lies.

But the graphics! ^ ^
In any case, this won't be the Bob Dylan of video-games, it's already derivative.

Geoff interviewed Bioware after the show and asked if you could play it by yourself, the answer was clear, you can play through it from beginning to end all alone. They said that they just wanted to give you the choice to play it however you want to play it. By yourself or with friends, it's your choice.

You can also play Destiny alone (or a bunch of other MMOs). It doesn't mean that it actually is an interesting singleplayer experience or that their game scenarios are even designed with single players in mind.

Very Bungie-esque gameplay vid.

Just watched it again. No way. I mean, i'd love this to be real Scorpio gameplay. But i just don't believe it.

Yea, but all of these early trailers have those clearly scripted events which just won't go down like that in the real game. Look at the Metro gameplay, I mean cmon.

Random loot, 4 player Co-op and most likely no proper single player experience, definitely not a game for me, but it does look pretty.

Looks right up my alley. I loved Destiny because of the setting and Division because of gameplay perspective. Anthem looks like a perfect mix of both that looks insane visually.

This looked great.

If we can travel a big, open world without invisibile walls Destiny (if the game turns out like this) might have some competition.

Okay... It's a Bioware RPG

Is it?

Ir is a Destiny type of game made by Bioware?

That was my (rhetorical, but also real) question.

'Action RPGs' labels are kind of misleading. They are usually 90% action, 10% rpg in form of items and stats.

What I'm questioning, and you should question yourself too, it's how much it will be like a typical Bioware RPG. Is it going to be a focused narrative with charismatic npcs in your party? Talkative quests?
That way you won't be disappointed.

The game looks absolutely wonderful and fluid but the little boy inside of me is screaming that this game is the reason why Mass Effect is probably never going to be made again.

There's nothing remotely Bioware about it. It feels like The Division and Destiny put into 1 in combination with a little touch of Titanfall 2 and Lost Planet put together.

I sure as hell hope this isn't going to become another online only game. There's no way they can compete with Destiny 2 and win.

This seems excellent tbh. I'll keep my hype levels in check considering vanilla Destiny and The Division (both were hyped as much as possible) but if it gives me a Destiny meets Mass Effect kind of game, I'm all for it.

It's been a while since that was a seal of quality.

Eh, to each their own. I thought Andromeda and Inquisition both had great stories. Not perfect, but in the top 5% of AAA games if not higher.

After watching 4k direct feed those graphics are easily doable by frostbite and not outside the current graphics card realm (1070 and upward). All they've really done is pool multiple studios worth of assets together and re-purposed them into a singular game.

Heck the copy-pasta all over the vegetation is crazy when you look closely, honestly when you tear it apart it's not super impressive when you look at the individual pieces of the picture but together it looks amazing.

Be interesting to see the final outcome visually.

^ That is what I'm expecting. It will have more shooting than RPG-ing, since modern Bioware RPGs are usually more action than RPG.

I'm hoping it's not a Destiny clone and I'm hoping that it will have an actual SP and not a 'play online solo'

Really uninspired design. Bioware need concept artists with more imagination. This looks from a design perspective like a mix of tired sci-fi design we've seen since 2000.

All games are "open world RPGs" now so it's like people don't even know what the term means anymore. I wish they would just go back to calling them "experiences"

Devs create action games - call them RPG's - enough people accept that - the definition for an RPG is stretched even thinner than it was.

And what games have been called RPGs that actually weren't? Maybe I haven't been paying attention to some games, but as long as a game has stat-based character progression (not gear progression), it's an RPG. From what I've seen in the genre discussion it's mostly people having a specific RPGs in mind, mostly sandbox RPGs and dismissing a majority of Japanese developed RPGs it's not something they care about.

I'll definitely agree with Inquisition, but I'm not so sure about Andromeda. There are moments when it reaches greatness, but for the most part, it was below BioWare's usual standard

So Zelda 2 is an RPG then.

Yeah but I feel like Bioware's usual standard is still in the top 5% if not higher. Only CDPR and some indie studios consistently beat them in my book.

That said, I'm biased since I -LOVED- everything about Andromeda's concept and characters. It's not hard to sell me on a pioneer story, and I'm really forgiving of missteps as long as I like the characters involved. I'm the kind of person who enjoys a fun concept with bad execution vs. a great execution of a concept that doesn't interest me [which is why I can't get into the story of games like Dark Souls, Last of Us, etc].

So I guess it just comes down to what you look for.

Looks incredible - will wait to see how it turns out though...

Also - can't stand the cringe voice chat they do in these promos.

I still like their stories. Andromeda had its shaky moments during the early-mid sections, but really picked up towards the end imo, so their name still carries weight for me.

Looks beautiful, but very scripted. Wished the people talked like actual people instead of some NPC dialogue. If it's just flying around shooting stuff with strangers, I'm not interested. But then I knew that from the start, I don't like Destiny style games.

yeah agree, i would be interested if there is like a single player campaign and a multiplayer one, like in MH. But i don't think so.

I know I should be sceptical. But fuck that. I want to be optimistic.

Lame fake multiplayer chat aside, this looked phenomenal. Great art style, wonderful tech on show and a really gorgeous world.

Looks like Destiny on crack.

Not many people have really nailed that persistent world but you get to explore with a friend or two particularly well. It's still a tantalising prospect.

Colour me excited.

This looks like the best looking game I have ever seen.

Consider me skeptical. I highly, highly doubt it will look this good.

The game looks stunning, and the gameplay also looks wonderful.

This, and AC Origins, were the highlights of the conference I think.
