The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind expansion announced

I'm confused, this is just the Morrowind location with all different MMO quests right? Not some weird kind of remake?

Doesn't sound like you're actually that confused at all. It's an expansion for the MMO Elder Scrolls Online that takes place on the island of Vvardenfell, which is the location of TES 3: Morrowind. It's not a remake.

Ahh Fuck. I read that as a Morrowind remaster. Everyone should so themselves the favour of playing Morrowind so you can see why many of us say it's the better TES game... Don't fall for Daggerfall if you don't have a lot of free time... And I mean a lot.

I've been debating of playing WoW or ESO again as I have a major MMO itch (I just can't get into XIV).

ESO is going to win out this one. Going to re-download my PC copy tonight/tomorrow and get going again.

I think I may restart though from scratch, I have a couple high level vets from back in the day who I'll just turn into crafting mules.

I bought ESO over Christmas but haven't gotten to it yet. I want to finish off some other things before dedicating a good chunk of time. Seeing this makes me ultra happy, I like everything I see of the game and this expansion could be incredible. I'll be watching the reveal!

Skywind's been making some great progress lately, I hope we'll see it finished now that Skyrim SE is still relevant.

I stopped playing what I believe was just before the last boss in the main quest, and never got round to playing any of the DLC.

Is it worth coming back to now? Were the DLCs worth the price or would it be better subscribing and playing them through that way?

I bought the Gold edition of the game on sale over the holidays for $21 USD (on PC) and have no regrets. If you want to go the sub route the crowns you get for subbing basically pay for the sub themselves and you get access to the craft bag which is invaluable if you're into crafting, or harvesting to make money. I personally don't like the idea of losing access to the DLC if I drop sub for periods of time, so I prefer owning them outright, but that's just me. You could easily play thru the DLC during sub periods.

Is this game actually good?

I'm not MMO averse, I played FFXI and FFXIV for years. How does ESO compare to Everquest or WoW? I know it probably plays nothing like a traditional ES game, but I'm a fan of ES lore so I might enjoy it for that.

The lack of a subcription has just made me assume it's garbage.

The first time I played the game was during a beta before it's release and I considered the game nothing special. It was sorta like WoW with non-targeting combat and the regular theme park quest system of just leading you through a level specific zone one at a time.

However, recently when I sat down just last week and started playing the game after all the patches and the One Tamriel update I actually enjoy it. It's a lot more fun, I like the sense of going anywhere I like, sorta like a regular (modern) Elder Scrolls game (though I wish there were some zones of "danger"). I can't say much about the lore though since I am not a gigantic fan of the ES universe, I've heard there are some inconsistencies but that's all.

May have to pick this up...which has the bigger player base / gaf clan...PS4 or pc version?

I play on both platforms - if I had to guess, the PS4 player base is larger. Apparently in terms of PSN add-ons the sub for ESO was 3rd for all of 2016, only behind BO3: Awakening and Rise of Iron for Destiny. It's hard to say though. Both versions feel like there are players in pretty much all zones at all times.

Ooh, there's been substantial updates? Only substantial mod I ever used lately, a few years back, was Rebirth(?) and I would love to go back to it even if it's just to check out Skywind's progress.

It still amazes me how much this game has improved since launch and it's still hated on by a large vocal crowd. Easily one of the best MMO's on the market AND you can ignore the MMO part if you want and just play it solo for the most part.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Tried it during the Free Weekend a couple months ago on PS4. I was a bit impressed at how the questing provides just enough context to make the very rigid fetch design feel a bit more important than they come across. Some of the major quests had a few simple puzzles to solve that were unique for an MMO. The skill tree and customization was very accessible and easy to understand/set goals.

Problem I found was in the combat and exploration. The world(or at least the early zones I visited) just weren't very interesting. Obviously less detailed and on a massive scale in comparison to the solo games, but none of the major points of interest made this fantasy realm feel engaging or wondrous. Even the large temples and interior dungeons just were a bit lifeless.

Combat just vexxed me, always felt like there was a disconnect between my actions, the animations, and how the enemies perceive my damage. Sometimes I even wondered if I was missing something. Compared to WoW or FFXIV it feels quite a bit off.

The game had a massive sale during that trial to goad new players in, and I did spend $10 for the vanilla version, but unsure if I will ever re-install after my 4-5 hours with it.

Is there an active gaf clan anyone know?

There isn't, on any platform as far as I'm aware. The way the guilds work, especially for access to guild traders, it's the most beneficial to being in multiple trading guilds that stay at or near the 500 player max at all times. It's an unfortunate side effect of there not being a global auction house.

My friend and I bought ESO on a lark for like $10 bucks during a steam sale and after downloading the +70GB of files we only made it about 30-45 minutes before tapping out and uninstalling. We were thinking we would muck around for maybe a few hours but it couldn't even hold our attention for a drunken one.

To be fair to the game, that experience is not going to be indicative or reflective of its overall quality because it's an MMO (and we were inebriated), but we bounced off almost immediately.

Honestly, MMO of the year for 2 straight years, starting with the console launch in 2015, 2016's One Tamriel update, and now this. This went from being a game I had to defend as a diehard Elder Scrolls fan to one that I can recommend without reservation.

You forgot about Legion. But second best, that might be true.

I'll always mark out for the Morrowind theme. Always. Such a cheap pop.

One of the Warden's skill lines focused on ice. This is my class!
